My last wine of the tasting and probably bad timing after the Fonseca because this could not possibly compare.
But taken on its own, stewed black Christmas fruits and spices, a touch of licorice and something dirt like that threw me off. I think this will be better with time in bottle.

Deep purple/ruby in color, this Syrah exhibited pronounced notes of dark fruit, plum and licorice. Concentrated and full bodied with smooth medium tannins and medium acidity ending with a med/long finish.

This boasts a gorgeous nose of black cherry with loads of spice, cut flowers, crème brûlée and emerging mushroom. Palate has serious concentration and density with precision that adds length, weightlessness and intensity to the finish. In an early and pleasure-filled peak.

Exuberant, playful and full of rich matchstick inflected fruit on both nose and palate. Round, full of white fruit and lively. Such a balanced and delightful 2011 at peak.

This beams a gorgeous nose of black and red cherry, an array of roasted herbs, tomato leaf and savory smoke. Excellent concentration of rich cherry fruit matched by still-gritty structure. Vibrant and juicy throughout.

Decanted to serve but rather shut tonight. It showed glimpse of pure purple fruit and spice at the 90 min mark with finesse. No doubt it reflected the weaker vintage but the Roumier MSD really punching way above its class in this vintage.

Fantastic Auslese.
Even though it’s fairly young it still offers aromas of petrol, mango and other exotic fruits.
The 2017 is really balanced, with pure sweetness and a fair amount of acidity

Ripe, rich, juicy fruit. Dry, spicy palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This is good, but lacks polish. Needs some time to sort itself out.

80s Krug Rose NV. Simply fantastic. It was resolved with breadcrumb, nut fruit, caramalized yellow fruit. It was still fresh and vibrant with lots of verve.

Fabulous barolo.
Mature, notes of tar, chemicals, flowers
The oak is well integrated and even though the wine still has tannins. It is still a beauty and well balanced

Brought this to a Cal Club wine dinner and tasted blind with 6 others. Bested all the whites including a Lafon which was grea. This is heady stuff and showed why it’s one of absolute favorite wines.

This could really use an hour or two decant, but was tasted as a PNP. The winery notes blackberry, garrigue, and warm fig (and I agree). Very smooth, dry palate. Full, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

Tasted this at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. I’ve not had many Cornas. It was on DQ’s must try list. This was very nice.

Good to revisit this after 6 years. It was popped and poured to serve in blind. I thought its a post 13 white burgundy for its youthfulness. The Ramonet spearmint and vanilla slowly emerged with air but the ripe vintage chunky fruit was obvious. The young Ramonet BBM for me is always controversial as it struggles between being a prem cru and grand cru, depending on the vintage. For this bottle tonight, it was more prem cru. Very enjoyable nevertheless.

I don't drink a lot of New World whites, especially sauv blanc, but this is the best I've had in years. No grassiness or cat pee, which is a positive for me. It has a mineral forward presentation with a touch of oiliness and body from the 2% semillion that gives it an Old World-meets-New character. Medium bodied. The fruit is grapefruit and melon maybe subtle stone fruit -- not really any tropicals. It has a steeliness to it from the stainless steel aging.

Paired amazingly with a scallop sashimi served with a touch of thin sliced kumquat, fresno chile, asian pear granita, and avocado cream.

Zéro dosage laser acidity 100% Chardonnay. Initially green apples and almonds but after an hour of being opened showed its age with bruised apple, soy sauce, umami richness. Two totally different wines with a little time. Might be in its twilight but still of a serious calibre, disgorged 2020. I found myself wishing for a little more balance and richness

Good, but honestly I expected more from this Roulot. I think that was my fault. Light, balanced and airy with nice subtle flavors of orchard fruit.

The colour is a good ruby red with a slightly fluid rim. In professional storage since arrival here. Nose was typical St Emilion with plummy fruit, some oaky notes, earth and a touch of savoury, herby aromas.. Alc is 13%.

Palate intensity is okay and it is medium bodied with moderate tannins though with hard acid. I thought the acid was too much and threw the wine out of balance. There is typical plums, red and dark fruit and some savoury characters. The fruit isn’t that expressive and seems to lack complexity.

I have tried this wine twice recently, the first at a St Emilion 09 and 10 tasting, the second with steak at home both with similar notes. It just does not seem like a complete wine the as the components are rather disjoint and ageing has not helped. The middle palate is fluid and the acid is hard suggesting some lack of phenolic ripeness.

Not a complete disaster though a wine that is a hit underwhelming.

Fruit still very strong, along with some pleasant mushroom that adds richness. Smooth, dry, slightly spicy palate. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

Tasted this at Wine Spectator’s Grand Tour in New Orleans. This was a very nice surprise. Who says Argentinian wines don’t age well? My wife and DQ may have liked this even more than I did.

Picked up on a whim since I'm a fan of aged white wine and Alsace wines, with this being an Oregon-born imitation of an Alsace field blend. It was enjoyable with dried fruit notes and a little honey, though not as much as I'd like to see. Wine was good for the price.

I just love this. Bright red berry, and cherry dominate the nose, with a nice bit of earthiness in the background. Delicious red fruit dominate the flavours and the finish is all about the acid.

I have a few of these and a magnum. I would like to let them rest.

My first Cayuse Tempranillo. Purchased at auction, but most likely very well stored. Shared this with my wine group and it was the WOTN. Opened but not decanted for over an hour before serving. On the nose, a definite funk (as others have mentioned), it reminded me of many Chateneuf de Papas that I have had. But it tasted very different than its nose. Complex, with notes of spices and a long finish on the palate. I may be shorting this a point. It was my first Cayuse Tempranillo.

Really lux nose of cedar, bright red cherry, pomegranate, anise, a touch of allspice and white pepper - really fancy.
Red fruit leads on the attack with laser like delineation followed by the spice elements before silky fruit comes back on the finish. Wonderfully exciting and balanced wine

My first bottle of this vintage in a little of 7 years and I think the extra age has been kind to it. That being said, I don't think it will get any better going forward, as I think the fruit is beginning to fade. I have 2 more bottles and plan to drink them this year.

Deep yellow/orange, looks like a lighter Belgian ale. Complex bruised fruit character (it contains at least 7 apple varietals), truly dry impression, and a lot of soil which I don’t usually taste in cider. Very good but I’m not sure I’d hold it any longer.

Clear light gold. Lovely unmistakably Chardonnay nose, a bit of reduction, lemon, pear and wet rock. Delicious dry lemon, orchard fruit and mineral flavours, a touch of ripeness on the dry stony finish.

Delicious, and more like the 19, than the 20.

My first Napa Cab. Medium dryness, good acidity and well-balanced. I expected more ‘heavy fruit’ based on all the Napa folklore, but found a fresh style and more spice than expected. And for cabernet - and only from ‘17 - very smooth tannins. Well made!☺️

Deep straw. Muskmelon, rambutan, flowers, preserved pineapple, white pepper, smoke, and bruised apple. Light-bodied with medium minus acidity. On the palate, we can feel some elements of stems and skins. Maybe the grape was not de-stemmed or had more skin contact during wine making process? The finish is long, complex, with some spiciness and bitterness. The bitterness really sums this wine up with a beautiful balance.

This is in a fantastic spot right now though definitely will improve with further cellaring. Gone are the overtly primary fruit notes. Exactly what you want. Tar, Roses, Ripe Cherry, and softening tannin.

In one sentence: sweet game American barbecue smoke wrapped around elegant dark berry. Many layers of different kinds of enticing smoke and plenty of leather on the nose. Developing but still quite fruity in the core. A long, long intriguing finish with a hint of volatile acidity keeps it lively and enticing.

Tasty out of the bottle, but great after two hours and then some.
