(tasted from 375ml) a marvelous, tender nose of sweet cedar, brown sugar and hickory smoke gives up delicate nougat-like sweetness in the mouth with a certain citric energy. Totally resolved structure with no evident tannin. With time tobacco smoke and autumn leaf and leather take hold on the nose, widening the aromatic spectrum in a whispy fashion. Graceful sweetness and a wine of arrival! Delicious treat. Low ullage, too!

I like the baking spice, dried herbs, mineral and raspberry type fruit for this level that show some good density for the appellation. The baby fat has pulled back on this but there is ample structure to take this into the next 3-4 years with some upside development. A good way to get some of the Chambolle charm (though there is firmness to the finish) at much less money. 87-88 today.

I would have thought by the last bottle tasted this would show very advanced/tertiary with strong VA present but NO, this was more age-appropriate, showing some secondary minty/cabinet spice and cherries aged in Brandy notes with briary scents, mineral and nutmeg, rose petal. Very “Charmes” on the palate with fine tannins, ripe spicy flavors in the mouth that continue to show some complexity over 45 minutes +. This is going nowhere fast and I would hold off on drinking for another few years or decant for at least 2hrs. 90-91. Good potential going forward.

I like the racy, energetic style that I believe, what many expect from a blanc de blanc to be! Lovely saline-infused green apple and pear fruit mixed with fresh minerals and chalk. Long finish, great linear energy and intensity but with little midpalate pliancy today. This should certianly age very well in the bottle. 91-92. liked this a lot!

This is quite involved! almost reminiscent of a quality French sweet vermouth with its minty spice character that is only accented further by celery salt, root vegetable savour and lifted by white peppery notes. The higher-pitched fruit works well in counterpoint to the cured meat character. There is an almost “chewy” texture to the midpalate, highlighting the typical Cote de Beaune styled earth/manure rusticity. This is begging for meat juices…beef or lamb, anyone? 93+

This must be among the very best of bottles tasted, though I have enjoyed this several times now; beautiful Chambolle charm in the form of root vegetables, smoke, leather and game give way to rose petal, decaying fruit essences (strawberry, in particular) and more emphasis on tertiary flavors of coffee, caramel and brown sugar/soil dustings. Very integrated, resolved tannins with a delicate character to the palate. Such tender, fine tannins.

(built on the 2016 vintage). Fabulous stuff today with a good combination on citrus and orchard fruits that show full-bodied flavors of biscuity complexity, vanilla, floral scents and minerality poking through on the finish. Great showing for this young wine. 93 with upside potential?

Everything about this bottle/wine showed signs of having some "help" along the way but contents were all Pinot (phew!) This showed lively but a bit disjointed with an ashy quality of beet root, incense, cannabis, antique wood, etc but never really came out to play much. For a 20 minute window there was some beautiful tertiary richness on the nose and midpalate (after decanting) that showed some mocha dustings and coffee with damp soil notes. Very alive but perhaps just an awkward bottle? The flavors seem sharp, lean and clipped with less-than-compelling aromatic detail. Going nowhere in a hurry but with the edgy acidity, I'm a bit concerned. 89-90 today.

A very evergreen/pine needle-infused nose of sage and licorice over raspberry fruits. Juicy and pliant with a definitive spicy texture and fine tannins. This is starting to show more secondary characteristics alongside a strong menthol/cough syrup note that should integrate with even more time in the bottle. Drinkable now, however! 92 with upside potential?

While this does show an easy hand in the extraction department, the first thing I noticed was the sense of charred oak on the nose with lighter, high register fruit of pomegranate and orange scents with woodsmoke and a soy/bloody game type of savor in the mouth. Juicy and pliant and a bit low in acid and perhaps a bit high in alcohol? This should age just fine but the jury (me) is out today.

The bottle showed signs of intense leakage; low fill. The cork was about to fall in the bottle but was preserving something quite tasty, indeed! Deep damp soil scents with toffee, brown sugar, cabinet/baking spice with antique wood scents coming through. This starts of juicy, showing a volatile edge and obvious oxidation but as this opens up just a bit, there is some real mouth-coating richness in the form of caramel and spices. Nutty, yes but lovely complexity and actually shows more authentic to the vintage than other reconditioned bottles. A big wine yet, as are many '69 burgs still today. What this lacks in higher-register delicacy, it makes up for in richness and volume. I have to revisit another bottle soo0n! 93 (+?). Other bottles of this have shown closer to 95!

I was a bit shocked by the light color/translucency for such a young Grivot wine but I was pleasantly surprised with the transparency of the aromatics; sesame seed comes through immediately; definitely a Vosne! A bit of whispy frambroise and strawberry fruit mixed with cinnamon stick, smoke, (early) beet root impressions, soy sauce and a faint note of cumin come through. Supple, round tannins and lowish acidity. I was expecting much more structure but this was a pleasure to drink right now and should hold....perhaps put on a bit of weight? Classic Vosne. 91-92. Very elegant and attractive for such a young Grivot wine, which in my experience, tend to show more robust/dry character(s).

Incredible aromatic dimension today with a definitive Smoky/stem note layered with incense, cured meats, iron/rusty minerality, peppercorn spice, a certain gamey/blood/iodine note and truffle/sous bois overlap red fruits today. Fine tannins with energy and zest but integrated structure already! I wasn’t expecting such a resolved wine at this point in the wine’s evolution but I have no complaints! Really impressive, stylistic character that favors aromatic breadth over obvious color and extract. 93.

Tasted from a half bottle, perhaps with a bit more age on it; this is quite vinous with a powerful fruit base of baked apple with marzipan, brown spices, sourdough bread and honey. Big and mouth coating, showing more minerality/damp chalk impressions with air time. This doesn’t have the clarity of other bottles but does show the impressive weight I often find with this wine. 91(+).

Aside from showing so much vitality, still, I can’t imagine this being any better with tons of campfire smoke/peat, cured meats, beet root impressions with sous bois complexity developing ever minute in the glass. This is dense with an almost French onion soup quality on the nose and palate that has the power but energy (acidity) of the vintage. Quite “Grand Vin” today and shows the classic autumn magic that is begging for boeuf bourguignon or honestly, you can just drink this on its own and enjoy it’s majesty. Grand Cru showing. Absolutely no rush on this. 94-95.

Loved this with its yeasty complexity layers of brioche, hazelnut, apple cobbler-type fruit with a bit of ginger shavings. Rich and simultaneously fresh and chalky with pin-point precision to the chalky minerals coming forth with air time. Classic, fresh and revelatory towards the best attributes of the 2008 vintage. Upside potential still. 93-94.

a fresh, high register fruit nose of salted citrus/lemon fruits with a bit of tart peach; good acidity and mineral presence in this wine and while very classic/typical of the region, there is a lack of clarity/focus in the aromatic material to take one to that next level. Very "correct" with good energy and lift to the flavors with good oak integration. This is showing no signs of advancement but a bit shy/lacking excitement. 87-88.

A darker shade of Vosne for sure with the black Pinot fruit of the vintage; violet and rose bush florality mixed with borderline cassis-type fruit with deep red currant and raspberry. There is a definitive smoke/stem quality to the fruit at first but with swirling the glass, it opens up some lovely mineral definition. The palate is constricted today but the midpalate sap is there, underneath everything. Impressive stuff. 92 today.

This bottle was less evolved than others with a dark red cherry fruit backround to the rich sous bois, leather and game/smoke aromas. The acidity of the vintage doesn't seem to poke out as much as other bottles tasted of this but (this bottle) shows more primary and backward with almost lush fruit and more substantial tannins in the background. A bit of fudge and coffee/brown sugar aromas come out to play but are certainly more in the background. I was hoping for more tertiary development but alas, these new releases come out to play at their own pace! Give this air and absolutely no rush. Drink over the next 5-8+ years yet!!!

I liked the style here, while very much on the light side, this as some high-toned aromas of orange peel, rose hips with pale tart red fruits. Hints of leather and sous bois come about more with air time and introduce citric, fresh (thinner) flavors in the mouth with graceful, integrated tannins. This should hold on for a bit but the midpalate is already drying out compared to the acidity intact. Lovely, Classic Volnay. 90.

This, like the very best of this vintage so far, shows the underlining concentration from such a low-yielding challenging vintage mixed with beautiful transparency; firewood smoke, cinnamon, woodsy impressions with defined minerality, compelling sous bois complexity. I really like the balance between the acidity/freshness vs. the dark foresty fruit. Classic Chambolle with a good umphf of concentration on the midpalate. 93+

A marvelous smoke/tobacco dusting nose with soil and more sous bois comes out readily upon opening with a still ripe, juicy feel to the fruit. Bits of leather and Beaune earth become more prominent both on the nose and palate with air time. Delicious Burg that has moved to mostly secondary and showing a bit of tertiary development right now. Classic Beaune, earthy profile with good midpalate fat to remaining fruit. 93+ Delicious right now.

A perfectly serviceable white burg but I have to ask, Was this mislabeled? I don’t get it. Very muted nose of an almost tropical kind of profile, ie. pineapple, gauava, etc. Lacking any sort of freshness or mineral presence in the mouth. Good every day drinker but not for the appellation or price. pleasant ripe fruit but not too much beyond that.

90-91. Adavanced in appearance vs. the '03 Latricieres chez Camus; an orange core with brown rim, already but the flavors are precise and zesty, though a bit pinched and leaned out already. Onion compote, root vegetables with orange zest, earl grey, leather and rusty/iron type of mineral component both on the nose and palate. Very lean and monolithic on the palate but with attractive, integrated acidity. All about the nose and otherwise very charming.

this is world class wine with tobacco, leather, graphite-type dusty minerality with tons of Burgundian-like sous bois complexity coming out to play with air time. Rich, creamy tannins that seem to melt in the mouth. A few of us immediately went to Burgundy when tasting this blind! A definitive chocolate/mocha note really starts to sing on this wine and widens even further, the aromatic complexity. No rush in drinking but this is hard to resist at present time. TOP NOTCH performance! 96.

This very well may be the best '88 Burg ever tasted (for me). While still quite the powerhouse in fruit and structure, this is showing Grand Cru focus and delineation of damp soil, sous bois, smoked meats, tree moss with black cherry fruit and licorice. Lots of cabinet spice development on the nose and palate with air. A big chewy yet but the tannins, while firm, do appear to be integrating with the incredible fruit. More than just firm and drying, this is actually pleasurable to drink and takes you to that next level. 94- 95 today. No rush, of course.

This was sinfully good with all of the grandeur, haunting, mysteriousness of Burgundy all in one bottle! Very effusive, mature nose of sous bois layering; herbal tea (more green than black) with cinnamon stick, hickory smoke/campfire with soil, leather and a piquant cherry/orange alliance of fruit that comes out in a whispy, ethereal fashion. Long, citric and spicy with perfectly integrated tannins and conveying a certain fat, supple quality on the midpalate. Guessed this to be a Grand Cru and the title "Grand Suchots" could not be more accurate. Phenomenal!

91-92; tons of Vosne spice, hoisin mixed with black raspberry/cherry and mineral lift in the mouth. The dark fruit really works well in contrast to the precision of acidity and minerality in this vintage. Open today and starting to show some texture in the mouth. Velvety, spicy mouthfeel. Should develop quite well but the acidity makes this so juicy and attractive for drinking now. Nic.

Grand Cru showing with such beautiful resolution to the flavors at this point. I love the vital energy amongst delicate yet lively aromas of sous bois, tea spice, leather, hickory smoke and floral remnants that have a unique impact on the nose along. This is so good you could actually just spend time on the nose not even have to taste it to enjoy it! Pliant, with umami richness on the mid palate and incredibly weightless. Rocking right now!

Loved this with its ample fruit still coating the palate with licorice and various spice, crushed rose petal and cherries aged in brandy.. Lovely acidity and lift to the flavors with more midpalate fat present than other ‘93s that can sometimes show elegant but shrill. This is the real deal that should hold for quite some time. I would allow plenty of breathing time still on this. 93 (?). Delicious stuff.

This is always a great wine and while the ‘05 rendition is very much firm and for the long haul, this shows some really nice character of sous bois-infused dark fruit with leather, graphite-type minerality and dried herbs both on the nose and palate. A bigger, darker and denser wine than the ‘08 Santenots with its somber profile of Beaune sauvage, incense and meat juices with a dark chocolate note, most likely from the oak maturation. A bit drying with less than fine tannins but really calls for the classic Burgundian dishes today. Gratifying and impactful in this stage in evolution.

(Domaine; Mise Tardive 7 Ans). This was a perplexing wine and I’m glad I had the opportunity to taste it on day 2 as well. There is a cocoa powder, dusty quality on this wine that hides the otherwise red licorice, underbrush type/woodsy aromas married to cherry coulis sauce. A bit tight and dried out today with a bit of wild herbs and oak influence still. Impressive width and structure for. Volnay but I guess that’s Santenots for you. Going nowhere in a hurry.

I liked the freshness and purity here, though this wine was eclipsed, sadly, by the Andre Jacquart Vertus 1er Cru Blanc de Blancs. The Rose is fresh, energetic with a light touch in the mouth with a sneaky minerality that comes out to play with some air time. Mostly Chardonnay, actually, and reveals some of the chalky texture of so many wines based on fruit some the Cote de Blancs. Impressive length and persistence. I liked this! 91+

I have been lucky to have tasted this hidden gem twice and this bottle was very much like the first with its classic developing profile of sous bois-dominated characteristics; damp soil, leather, iodine/blood, game with french onion soup, campfire smoke that brings the aging red cherry fruit to a fresh place. Adds significant midpalate fat with about 30 minutes of air time and while gets more fleshy, there is an elegance here that is compelling. Not the ripest nor more seriously structured Bonnes Mares out there but this has continued to age on its balance very, very well. Bravo. Lots of complexity from this tricky vintage.

I had a tough time placing this wine (tasted blind) though it was truly dynamic throughout the afternoon; a very spicy, minty nose of fernet branca liqueur, cherry cola, blueberry with a bit of prune disperses with some real air time to reveal more traditional incense, briary type aromas. There was an almost pen-ink type of quality on the nose that, from what I can imagine, resembled some form of minerality coming through. Supple, rounded with plenty of fat in the midpalate, showing lowish acidity but doesn't come across as heavy or over-ripe. Grand Cru richness in the mouth. 94 (+?)

A rich, soupy/toffee (Liqueur-like) character of brown sugar, Worcestershire, sweet nougat, firewood/hickory smoke and almond cake with dustings of autumn leaves and sous bois poking out more with air time in the glass. Notable richness intact among the tertiary-dominated flavors that are releaved by acidity. Very "grand" in its size (full-bodied) for such age, keeping its Grand Cru majesty intact. What an experience!!! Thank you, Joe. A big wine, still. 95+

This was showing beautiful with a very classic profile of dusty beet root, soil, tobacco, sous bois, cinnamon stick and cedar coupled with a very deep core (in appearance as well) of red cherries. i guessed this to be QUITE younger than '64. Perhaps more vital than the '64 Bouchard Vosne AC tasted not too long ago but both wines were lovely!
