3/12/24, 4:29 PM - Thank you for drawing my attention to that; sounds like the bottle you guys just had was very similar to the first time I had this wine ... I'll never understand what was going on with the one we had in November '20. Your recent experience gives me some hope for my last remaining bottle. And interesting to see your recent tasting was in Eagan, as that's where I grew up. Hope you're well, J!
3/1/24, 12:21 AM - If I had multiple, I'd open one now. If I had only one, I'd hold for another couple years. It bears noting, I tend to prefer Champagne on the younger side, with exceptions for the aged versions that retain a lively acidic presence.
3/1/24, 12:32 AM - If you have three, it's easy: pop one now. It's delicious! I've generally enjoyed 2014, but it kind of plays to my palate preferences, too, so it's hard to give a blanket endorsement. If it's somehow possible, let me know what you think of this Vilmart when you taste it -- I'd like to get your take.
3/8/24, 10:41 AM - Sounds like your bottle is sound --- I love hearing it!! :)
2/7/24, 10:23 PM - fingers,Yes!!! Would love that!WGDM,Now isn't a *bad* time to check on this, per se, but if you do just understand this is what you're going to get. I haven't checked-in on 2014 yet, either, but I likely will soon.
2/8/24, 7:53 AM - You and me both! Cheers! :)
1/21/24, 9:05 AM - Positive; I write my notes as I'm tasting, not from memory.
1/10/24, 12:44 AM - Thanks for this note. I pulled my last bottle a couple months ago, and have it waiting in line. Quite frankly, sounds as if it'll be my speed. Hope you and J are good. :)
1/7/24, 9:52 PM - Fantastic note. Everyone who is thinking of buying this wine should read this TN.
12/4/23, 11:36 PM - Your note, as well as those of others, had me really excited about it. All three of us who drank the bottle enjoyed it immensely. Next bottle will get more thoughtful attention, as this one was more about the company. and right back atcha with the Holidays Cheer! Best to you and yours, Frank! :)
11/18/23, 10:17 PM - Smart. I'll be taking the same approach now that I understand Metras is a natural wine producer. ... quite frankly, as far as me and Metras are concerned, I'm done. I'll drink the last bottle or two that I have, and then just move on. I hate playing the coin flip game with natty wines.
11/18/23, 10:14 PM - Yeah, me too. I do note, with some inkling of desperate hope, that I had this '15 at a younger age than I've had most (all?) previous bottles, so maybe this just needs more time.
10/4/23, 6:14 PM - This one sounds attractive. Thanks for the note, and hat tip to whoever brought it to the tasting!
10/4/23, 9:19 PM - Good to know --- thank you! And high-five @ Todd!
9/29/23, 12:23 PM - Thanks for the kind comment. :)I hope your bottle shows fabulously!
9/6/23, 2:03 AM - or just don't drink Chateaneuf much at all ... I've walked away from new purchases, but for the odd Pegau every few years ... hope you're well, old friend! :)
8/3/23, 6:30 PM - Yyyyep. And I'm now willing to co-sign on that sentiment.
6/10/23, 12:16 AM - 1 to 3 hrs, for sure. This got opened on a whim when a properly-prepared '98 BAMA was too iffy to enjoy.
5/27/23, 3:30 PM - No, I’ve had this bottle for awhile. Cork was fine.
5/28/23, 10:07 AM - No problema. :)
5/9/23, 11:41 AM - Dang, Bob! That's putting a lot of confidence in "no premox."
5/9/23, 11:46 AM - Hi Joel,I just read your note, and I think your impression is correct. This was my fourth bottle: first one a couple years ago was gangbusters (I didn't do a TN), and the three since have been less stellar. Hopefully a lil' bit of time will help. :)
5/10/23, 10:58 AM - LOL! Bob, you're funny. (even though I know you're serious).Joel, I would expect the '19 to be markedly better than the '18, but that's just my expectations, and nothing more.
5/9/23, 12:42 AM - 'preciate that, Mhbeaune. Thank you!
4/6/23, 8:33 PM - You're welcome. :)
2/20/23, 8:50 PM - I can see how that might be the best possible setup for this wine. I have one left, and will probably drink it sooner, rather than later, simply to open-up space for some other bottle.
1/8/23, 8:05 PM - Thank you, M. Your hypothesis actually makes a lot of sense -- that possibility simply never occurred to me. Now hearing this was made with heavily-botrytised grapes, my money is on you being right.
11/14/22, 12:49 PM - Thanks for chiming-in, Frank! Like you, I love this wines. And, as with Marguet, I find it damn-near impossible to keep my hands off them.
8/29/22, 4:28 PM - Mix of a traditionally-Loire style of Cab. Franc and a riper/more plush version that would typically come from California.
7/21/22, 3:50 PM - I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it, D! Admittedly, I often just don't "get" D&R wines --- my success rate with them is hovering somewhere around 50% - 65%, I'd guess. You are missed on WB, by the way; hope you are well!- B
7/14/22, 9:00 PM - Hi Guillermo,Halcon's proprietor gave me this comment elsewhere, which you may find helpful:"BrianJust neutral oak on that PS. I suspect the stems giving a woody note.Paul"
6/15/22, 5:18 PM - I hope you're right, and I know you might be. My last bottle will, indeed, be held at least 5 more years.
7/3/22, 9:43 PM - Much obliged, Genghis. Wish I had better news to report.
2/28/22, 6:48 PM - I'd check in with a 750 if you have one; otherwise maybe wait another year. That's just a guess, honestly. Hope you and B are well! :)
2/26/22, 7:31 PM - Hey Izzy!! Nice to see you pop-in here. We are doing good --- soooo much has happened in our lives since that trip -- what was it? -- 12, 11 years ago? Hope you and K are doing well, too! Please reach-out to me beforehand if you and K ever find yourselves coming to L.A. --- would love to host you both. :)
11/21/21, 2:05 PM - I have no problem with the nasty cork; the nasty wine, on the other hand, is another matter ...
11/24/21, 12:09 PM - Ha! ... Yeah ... sorry about that, Kevin. I did reach-out to Greg and he said he would refund me for all bad bottles I had. I have not yet decided if I'm going to take him up on his offer; if the other bottle is bad, I probably will; if the other bottle is good, I probably won't. I assume he would extend the same refund offer to you if they prove to be bad. I would recommend having all three of your bottles ready to go at the same time, then you can just go bam-bam-bam --- pull corks until you run into a good one, or, if you don't, you've at least cleared the cellar space. Then move to your backup once you're done wretching from the Pinons.
11/11/21, 1:11 AM - I know. As in, very surprising.
10/25/21, 5:31 PM - Thanks, Tim. I've my fingers crossed this '10 comes around, as I have 5 more halves sitting in the cellar. The '05 has always been to my liking, but it's been a long time since I've had it (might have been my bottle that you had five years ago, actually). I had to struggle through some cognitive dissonance to be honest with myself as I was tasting this '10 and writing the note ---- this is the first GPL I've had that I thought to be less-than-excellent.
10/26/21, 12:30 PM - @Fugu: yeah, definitely let those 750s rest; the *only* reason I was willing to check-in on this at this time was because I have 375s, and, as it turns out, it's still too early for those (assuming they eventually develop in some kind of positive fashion).@Tim: lol! 10-4, my friend. :)
11/5/21, 12:45 PM - @MRC007,Tim and the person he was directing his comment towards are friends. Tim's comment was a friendly, playful, joke. Maybe your comment was made in the same spirit? If it was, it certainly doesn't come across that way.
10/22/21, 5:40 PM - Thanks for commenting! I always aim to be honest, and when my opinion is less-than-favorable I try to be nice about it; hopefully that's what came across here.
10/22/21, 5:45 PM - Cool beans, and thanks for confirming. Here's hoping your weekend is a great one --- cheers to you, too! - BG
9/23/21, 10:30 PM - Cool beans, my friend. I'm getting to the point where I need to re-up on Courtin and Marguet, but am grateful no offers have hit recently on account of a CC that is 100% melted at the moment. The biggest Courtin hits for me thus far have been Concordance and Efflorescence, iirc. Overall, I've been finding Marguet to be more my speed, but I do enjoy both, and I have primarily you to thank for drawing my attention to them. :)
8/27/21, 1:41 AM - Thanks for this, P.. I have three laying in wait, and never know quite when to approach this one. Hope you're doing well.
6/12/21, 1:11 AM - I'm late to the party, so never had the '08, but not surprised to hear it was good. Was the '08 pretty much on par with the '12, or do you deem one better than the other?
5/18/21, 6:57 PM - Thanks for the kind words, Jake. I agree with you --- holding off for a bit on your last bottle isn't a bad idea. I hope it shows well for you whenever you decide to pull that cork! :) - B. Grafs
5/3/21, 11:31 PM - Hiya, Frank! I popped another one of these more recently and it was pleasantly more showy, albeit not drastically so.
5/5/21, 1:10 AM - I tried the '15 Presence -- liked it, but preferred the better bottles of Resonance. Haven't tried or purchased the Eloquence --- is that a BdB, by chance?
5/5/21, 10:52 PM - Cool. I will give it a shot next time I see it on offer. Historically, I don't tend towards BdBs, but they've been taking a big slice of my cellar pie recently.
5/5/21, 1:08 AM - I'm a big fan of the Eff, too ... but not 7 bottles-so-far kinda big!
5/5/21, 10:52 PM - Nothin' wrong with that! I say, Cheers! :D
4/16/21, 11:03 AM - Yes, indeed, my friend. Wish I would have bought a lot more than the 2 that I did. Superb wine, but you already knew that. ;)
3/21/21, 2:05 PM - Did you ever hear back from Dominique, Frank? I popped one of these yesterday and it certainly seemed slightly corked. Still enjoyable to an extent, but slight TCA, nonetheless. In reading through others' notes, it appears this bottling is riddled with issues.
3/24/21, 11:25 AM - Ahhhh, gotcha. O.K.. No need to mention it to Dominique unless you feel it's something of which she would like to be aware.
3/24/21, 11:34 PM - I'm with you on the Eff. --- bought 3 bottles on purpose, and another 3 by accident. What a beautiful accident! The Resonance has been a bit more variable (1 bad showing; 1 good), but I hear ya'. What really frustrates me is, beneath the slight TCA, I thought the Allegeance was very impressive. I'll try it again, albeit in a different vintage, as I see note after note after note of various different folks having various different issues with the '13. ... so it goes. :)
3/11/21, 4:51 PM - Cheers, Stephen! To be fair, there are other perspectives out there: I know user, wetrock, is of the opinion that this wine doesn't *need* further age to show well, but acknowledges another 2 to 3 years could help the stems integrate some. Obviously, my opinion is significantly different.
1/25/21, 11:52 AM - Thanks for telling me that, TDV. That makes me feel a touch better about the prospects for my remaining two bottles.
1/13/21, 1:00 AM - Thanks, Eric; a very helpful note.
11/30/20, 8:18 AM - Thank you for the kind comment, idwa. Cheers! :)
10/8/20, 12:55 AM - Agree 100%. Thanks for the great note, O.
9/5/20, 12:11 PM - Agreed, chatters. And I don't completely mind the shift in style, so long as they ultimately prove to age well, which, at this point, I firmly believe they will. Thank you for chiming-in, and here's hoping you have a great weekend!
9/4/20, 10:29 AM - Glad to hear it showed better than the last time, which I assume was the 2012 dinner in Edina. I was extremely underwhelmed by that 2012 bottle, which inspired me to bury my last one in the bottom back of the proverbial cellar.
8/22/20, 4:15 AM - Glad to hear you're enjoying it as much as I did. It truly is a fantastic experience!
8/19/20, 4:07 PM - Thank you, srh, for the lovely comment and the additional information you uploaded. Hope your next bottle is an Excellent one! :)
5/7/20, 4:28 PM - Hi r&l,Thank you for your comments and the reference to better pricing. :)FWIW, I procured my bottles at Woodland Hills Wine Company in Woodland Hills, CA. I generally restrict my retail purchases to CA retailers, with a strong preference to stores that are local-to-me, so that often puts me in the position of paying more than the shelf price elsewhere. Cheers!
4/14/20, 12:48 AM - Now there's some awesome customer service!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
