Decanted for an hour. Ooh, very nice! Tons of blueberry and plums on the nose, with garrigue to remind us where this came from. The palate is elegant, with excellent plums and blackberries, with a hint of licorice to top it off. Great tannins, as Motz says, this wine loves food, and food loves it. In our case, grilled foods were a perfect match!

Decanted for an hour. A mature Plavac Mali, rich sweet lingonberry on the nose with Hvar lilac and a hint of orange peel on the nose. The palate is quite rich, with sweet lingonberry, resolved tannins, and a hint of bitter dark chocolate. Very tasty and great with grilled foods!

Popped and poured at fridge temp. A dark amber colour, with smoky honeyed tones on the nose. Very sweet on the palate, with burnt caramel. Could have a bit more acidity, but very nice in any case. Might work better with some really salty blue cheese instead of a sweet dessert.

Decanted for an hour. This would have needed more air, got better in the glass. Very elegant, with a beautiful nose of rose petals, blood and rust, the rose petals becoming stronger with more air. The palate showed very strong tannins, good red cherries, it really needs food to go with. Paired superbly with lamb meat and porcini pie.

Decanted for an hour. This is a full on super fruity wine, tons of blackberries and plum on the nose. The palate is also uber fruity, quite sweet. A well made wine, no doubt, but quite the fruit juice. Good for grilled foods!

Decanted at fridge temp. Starting to reach the end of its life, but still very good. Fresh yellow apples and a hint of apricots, but also a slight hint of nuttiness. I’d say this has passed its peak, it would have been perfect 6 months ago.

Decanted for an hour. This is a nice surprise. The nose is quite racy, with red fruit, pomegranate, touch of licorice, red cherry, quite an enticing nose actually. The palate is smooth, with excellent red berries, good acidity, a tiny hint of sweet vanilla, just enough to make it interesting. I think this needs a good bit of air to get going, give it more than an hour in the decanter, the last glass at 5 hours from opening is splendid!

Decanted for an hour. Very nice red cherries and pomegranate on the nose with a tiny hint of green paprika. The palate shows fine tannins, excellent red fruit, minerality and a bit of bitter chocolate. Very tasty and savoury!

Decanted for an hour. The oldest Plavac Mali I’ve had so far. On opening appeared to be a bit effervescent, worryingly. But after an hour this blew off. The nose was quite robust, with deep dark fruit, yet with that typical lingonberry in the background. The palate was full bodied, lots of dark fruit and strong tannins still. This was very good with a lamb rack, but I do wonder whether 10-12 years is the optimal for Plavac Mali.

Decanted for 40 minutes. Mmm, nice cassis and dark fruit on the nose, good rich fruit. The palate follows with rich cassis, strong tannins, bitter dark chocolate, savoury and tasty! Good right now.

Popped 30 minutes before pouring. Oh nice, fantastic aromas of red cherries with beetroot and a flinty feel to it. The palate is very minerally with a slightly sweet pomegranate feel to it, and light tannins. Very savoury and tasty, excellent!

Cracked and poured at fridge temp. This is a big fruity SB, showing lots of black currant leaf and nettles on the nose, quite full-bodied on the palate, with rich fruits and strong acidity. Elegant is not a word I would use for this wine, but it’s good!

Decanted for an hour. Delicious! Excellent nose of cassis and cedar wood, rich and inviting. The palate is also rich with excellent dark fruits, good tannins, very good! Was excellent with a rack of lamb and coriander rice.

Decanted for 1.5 hours. Last moment to drink this, quite rich now with nice blackberries and plums, resolved tannins. Very tasty with duck breast and wild mushroom sauce. But I wouldn’t wait too long anymore, this is probably going to drop off the cliff pretty fast, couple of years max.

Popped and poured. Well, this is a fun wine, a red from the Czech Republic. The nose shows red berries with a slight hint of beetroot. Getting a Pinot vibe here. The palate is quite light, with red berries, and barely discernible tannins, shows a bit of body though. It’s quite alright!

Popped and poured at fridge temp. Waxy yellow apples on the nose, quite rich. The palate is very interesting, with a touch of sweetness, excellent acidity, good yellow apples and a hint of apricot. This is a rich wine, with excellent Chenin Blanc characteristics, good stuff!

Popped and poured at fridge temp. Smokey yellow fruit on the nose, yellow apples, hint of apricot. On the palate this is rich with excellent fruit and acidity, and a hint of minerality. This is very nice right now, shows mature tastes. With a few more years I’m betting a nutty sherry like taste will come to the fore.

Decanted for an hour. Hmm, does this need more than an hour of decanting now? Not as amazing as the previous bottles, but still very good. Sour cherries, rust, VA on the nose. Red cherry, excellent acidity, mellowed tannins on the palate. Didn’t get the wow effect I was after, but very enjoyable with a roast of moose.

Damn cold, can’t smell a thing. So going to concentrate on structure here. The wine comes across as a nice smooth wine with medium tannins, feels like it’s quite rich, probably lots of good dark fruit. Gonna have to pop another bottle of this when my nose works again, seems to be really nice.

Popped 3 hours before drinking and decanted an hour before (from a 375 ml bottle). Rich dark fruit, plums, but with a red berry streak to it, maybe cranberry, on the nose. Rich on the palate as well, sour cherries and plum, acidic with lots of tannins, a challenging wine at the moment. Tempranillo has its own thing going on, and I finally figured out that it is a thing that does not suit my wife’s palate. She hated it, I loved it. I think it’s the mouthwatering combination of dark fruit and high acidity that does it.

Nice! Bready notes with a touch of lemon on the nose. The palate is quite fullsome, good bubbles, some toast, nice lemony flavours. Went well with grilled salmon and squid!

Popped and poured at fridge temp. An interesting wine, very full bodied bordering on sweet, rich on the nose with sweet yellow fruit, with a touch of fresh grass. The palate shows a richness, with just enough acidity to hold up the wine. Very nice, can take richer foods, I had it with lasagne.
