4/15/24, 9:51 PM - Thanks for taking one for the team to get a look at this wine. For what it’s worth, Emily states in her tasting note that this is a long term ager- so 5+ years of positive development seem likely.
2/10/24, 3:01 PM - Your note inspired me to do the same thing, and I came to the same conclusion!
12/24/23, 5:19 PM - Both interesting and easy to drink…the crack indeed! Glad to have a few more of these.
8/1/23, 10:40 AM - Michael, I will contact you, thanks for the offer. For the record, these two bottles aside, I have enjoyed all the other Franny Beck wines I've tried.Darius, I opened a 2017 Chenaie back in April that showed nicely (you can see my note on CT)
7/14/23, 2:24 PM - I've been stocking up on '16s and this is a lot of wine for the price. I'd be happy to have a case or two. Cheers!
10/28/22, 9:41 PM - Haha, very true, more like 2035 for proper drinking. I enjoyed a 2000 last year that still had room to develop. I have a bunch of the 2016s, so I guess it was more of a note to self to check on its progress. Cheers!
7/27/22, 8:35 AM - I think you are right. I like to pop and pour to follow the evolution, but I usually drink Bordeaux at 20+ yrs. I wanted to check in on this, and a short decant probably would have got me to the sweet spot sooner.
3/19/22, 5:57 PM - Thanks for the catch! Sloppy translation of a few different wines. Fixed the note.
2/11/22, 4:06 PM - You know, as I was writing the note, I had a feeling I was going to misread the oak treatment! I've been on an Oregon chard kick recently, and I think that threw off my palate. Thanks for the info, cheers!
6/29/21, 9:49 PM - This was an impulse purchase at the winery. I had been a fan of Daou’s entry level wines, but not as much recently. I held onto this for three years, afraid it would be an ooze monster, but was pleasantly surprised. It was ripe for sure, but the fruit was focused, and everything was in balance. I have a couple more and am thinking in five and ten more years, just to see how this style ages.
6/25/21, 11:42 PM - I’ve mostly had the NV rose, but this got a thumbs up from both me and the wife!
6/21/21, 5:38 PM - Cheers! I enjoyed this over several nights. Given the bigger style, I preferred this one glass at a time. Flavorful and fun.
6/9/21, 5:33 PM - That was an error, thanks for pointing that out!
5/6/21, 6:42 AM - I would recommend you decant for the best showing. I like to pop and pour to see how the wine evolves over an evening, and this was lovely from the beginning, but it hit another gear after some time to open up. Cheers!
5/6/21, 7:31 AM - Have no fear, this will go 5+ years easy with proper storage (cool, dark place, ideally sub 65 degrees)
5/10/21, 5:05 PM - I think 90 minutes would do the trick. Cheers!
3/1/21, 6:43 PM - Yes, this was from the library release, so good provenance. I will say I’ve bought aged PGC from other sources and found them to be pretty robust, even one that had clear signs of seepage (to be clear that one was NOT from the winery).
3/1/21, 8:05 PM - Decanting definitely helped, and it was still going strong late in the evening. So no worries about the wine fading after opening. I bought a mixed case from the library release, looking forward to them. Cheers!
12/31/20, 2:51 PM - The fruit was definitely still present, but it was at a point where the tertiary flavors could provide nuance and added complexity. The beginning of a long window, there is no rush, and many will no doubt even prefer additional time in bottle. I should add this was my first VCC, so your mileage may vary. Cheers!
12/27/20, 8:32 PM - That would be fitting, since it was your earlier note that motivated me to open this one! Glad I’ve got a few more. Cheers!
12/16/20, 12:24 PM - I know, “ripe” is a risky term to use. That’s why I added “focused” and “classic old world Pinot”, but then it feels like I’m just filling out my tasting note bingo card. I can say this was flat out delicious! Cheers!
10/30/20, 8:07 PM - No I didn’t. Was nice out the gate, then tightened up a bit. Did you find it better upon opening, or with more air?
8/17/20, 6:44 PM - Thanks...it was really good, glad I’ve got a couple more to follow. Cheers!
6/18/20, 7:36 PM - Great note. I totally got the duality between big/complex, while still light/elegant. Cheers!
6/14/20, 8:08 PM - This note convinced me to pop one - blasting with cherry indeed! Glad I have a few more to follow over time. Cheers!
5/12/20, 11:12 PM - This would be great with a nice steak.
3/13/20, 7:34 PM - Having another glass, great pairing with spicy Indian food. Delightful (again), but no obvious petrol.
10/15/19, 7:22 AM - To be fair, this continued to improve through the night, although it never fully came together. Could have been a bad bottle. Cheers!
