A lovely deep magenta color that displayed copper notes if the light was right. After a 3-hour decant there were aromas of black cherries and rose, and flavors of cherries and violets. The wine developed further over the next three hours with sun-dried tomatoes, salami, and an elusive graphite. Paired with our traditional cannelloni it became less impressive... better to have enjoyed this on its own and pair the meal with something less complex.

Testing this wine for Thanksgiving 2024. Decanted for sediment.

Day 1: Baking spice and a little barnyard aromas on opening, eventually giving way to ripe raspberry. Flavors of ripe raspberry and minerals... with baking spices playing hide-and-seek.

Day 2: Ripe red cherries

Finish is more pronounced than the nose, so likely still has some aging potential. Will work as an option for the Thanksgiving meal.

Please give it time. 3 hours at least, and the refined beauty of this wine shines. No need to break it down. It’s lovely.

Moderate sediment in the bottle, as expected. The wine is garnet colored in the glass, with medium legs. Immediate aromas of cherry, and tastes of cherry and plum. The body is medium. The wine has leathery texture and finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

A BLAST of honey on first sip. Not sweet at all, but unmistakable. Transitions quickly to beeswax then just as quickly to lemony acid. Lots of fun for a tough year in France.

Bright cherries and baseball glove, with pencil lead. Took 7+ hours to develop. Body was sacrificed to maintain flavor profile. Drink with rich pasta - lasagna bolognese or cannelloni.

Beautiful and inky in the glass. Not giving up anything on the nose, blackberry skins and leather detectable with smoothly integrated tannins. Not bad, and not impressive.

Had a bottle of this in May 2020 and was thoroughly unimpressed. Fast-forward almost a year and it's a completely different story!
4-hour decant. Beautifully dark and brooding in the glass with a floral, red berry bouquet. A sip reveals a quick hit of juice from cherry skins and immediately transitions to a smack of bright tomato, fading back to red berries. Tannins grip just enough to beckon for another sip.

Excellent with a rich lamb shank and sadly, my last bottle.

The nose has really opened up, with a big floral element. Flowers and minerals wrapped around a thin core of strawberry wash over the palette. More minerals in the finish. This Ripasso needs time in the bottle to develop.
