2/20/24, 1:56 PM - We gave it a little over 2 hours.
12/29/23, 5:58 PM - I will defer to your greater knowledge of Cab Franc Bill - it was just a subjective impression based on my limited knowledge of red fruit-centric Cab Franc, mostly west coast US and a bit of Loire Valley CF as well. Thanks for the comment!
8/4/22, 3:28 PM - Thank you, and yes, we did indeed decant for an hour and then again in the glass for a long drinking window. Also, EnfentTerrible is a most excellent handle!
3/5/22, 7:30 PM - Thanks so much Doc, that really makes me feel good!
2/12/22, 7:44 PM - Should have been 88, thanks for pointing that out!
11/12/21, 8:52 AM - I let it breathe for 8 hours, trying it at the beginning and at two hour intervals thereafter. This note reflects it at what I considered to be the apex. While it was tight, it was in no way a bad bottle!
11/12/21, 8:51 AM - I'm not sure it will improve much from here; drink up whenever the mood strikes! really an excellent wine, like so much from Huet.
2/14/21, 2:57 PM - You couldn't have said it better yourself!
1/27/21, 7:10 AM - Hi Mark. I decanted in the glass for about two hours and drank it with a friend over the next two. It needed it!
1/25/21, 9:24 AM - Hi Tim. Watery was meant to explain the texture as being very light. I would not describe this as a fruit bomb (at least not the bottle I quaffed). It was a very enjoyable wine. Happy Drinking!
1/15/21, 8:44 PM - Thanks Al! I suspect your guess if correct - I also strongly suspected it had suffered a bit. I am in Kansas but if I ever get to the hallowed fields of LA I would love to take you up on your offer - same if you ever find yourself lost in flyover country anywhere near Wichita, KS!
3/6/20, 8:25 AM - Hi! With a double-magnum I would wait until at least your 75th birthday and pop it open as part of the celebration.
6/24/19, 10:20 AM - Thank you for the information!
4/7/19, 7:44 AM - Dave, that sounds like a great plan. To me one of the joys of wine is experiencing them at different stages in their evolution, and this wine is beautiful in it's youth.
4/24/19, 4:53 PM - I don't know the vintages well enough to recommend the order, but I think you'll enjoy them regardless!
11/5/17, 10:30 AM - Kuwaiti desert. It’s a desert located in Kuwait.
11/11/17, 2:10 PM - It tastes like incredibly silty sand mixed with dust, but it wasn't a tasting note, it was a bouquet note. It smelled the same way the desert does in Kuwait (and other areas, I guess, not that I've been to tons of deserts) when the wind gets up and the sand begins to circulate.
11/3/17, 6:08 PM - I just made the exact same Joly/Alsace comparison and was shocked to see your note with the same analysis.
11/3/17, 9:55 PM - My review below. Still shaking my head that we both came up with the Joly contrast comparison.Color hard to judge in dim light. Sweetened lemons and daisies on the nose. Sweet lemon water with spring flowers up front followed by an abrupt and dynamic transition to an intense and weighty minerality with lemon zest notes unlike anything I have experienced before; it’s a combination of an easy Alsace drinker on the front palate with Joly chenin blanc end palate and finish (which lasts forever). It is strangely well-integrated despite the jarring transition. Silky mouth-feel. Rating is based in significant part on the uniqueness.
4/16/17, 7:46 PM - The hostess did, two bottles at the same time with a vinturi, then allowed to breathe in decanter 2 hours before the first taste; we drank them over three hours.
4/27/17, 8:56 AM - Duly passed on to the hostess in the event that she shares another bottle with me. Thanks.
12/14/16, 6:45 AM - Beautiful tasting event nomenclature!
6/27/15, 7:05 PM - Explode at the mid palate reminiscent of a fine Burgundy. Somewhat bizarrely, there is a Lemony note at the end palate that extends into the finish. Medium-bodied, a bit lighter than expected. Really good and really interesting - 91.
4/27/15, 8:57 AM - Yes, this was my first bottle, and I think I have five more. It's encouraging to hear how much you enjoyed it - I hope I have similar luck.
9/8/14, 8:01 AM - That is an excellent and insightful review that largely parallels my own thoughts on the wine. It is a very interesting wine indeed.
3/3/14, 5:35 PM - Wow - really different from my last note, which was taken at the vineyard. Either the wine needed time or I had wine fatigue.
9/19/13, 9:19 AM - I thought about that, but the wine was not corked or cooked, just really mediocre. The bouquet was wonderful and reflective of others I have had from this vintage. I think it was simply a mediocre bottle, which is why I decided to rate it. I'll modify the note, though.
12/2/12, 7:26 PM - Saw my earlier review and also note that there was no chemical smell to this bottle as there apparently was in the first I tried.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
