  • The estate's origins trace back to the early 18th century. Initially, it was part of a larger estate, which included what is now Château Pavie. In the early 19th century, Raymond de Sèze, a Bordeaux magistrate, acquired a large portion of this estate. It was his heirs who eventually gave the property its current name, combining "Troplong" from one of the previous owners, and "Mondot," a part of the estate that was particularly renowned for its wine. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the estate was expanded and its reputation grew. In 1980, the estate was purchased by Christine Valette and her husband Xavier Pariente. Christine Valette, a member of the Valette family from Château Pavie, played a significant role in modernizing the estate. Under her leadership, Troplong Mondot saw significant improvements in both viticulture and winemaking practices. In 2017 the Château was sold to the French SCOR reinsurance company.
Very dark and ripe nose. Plum, blackberry and dark cherry jam in the nose. Massive dark fruits on the palate. Some licorice and soft smoky notes in the background. Full bodied with a medium acidity. The high alcohol (16%) isn’t really nicely integrated. It feels a bit too hot. Huge and velvety tannins. Fantastic fruit depth but it feels a bit too extracted. Very good overall complexity. It’s missing elegance and more balance in my opinion. Very long finish. Nearly no aging notes, plenty of good years ahead.
Unsure about the wine’s intense style, I opened another bottle and encountered the same characteristics. Although it’s a remarkable wine, it feels somewhat excessive and, in my opinion, slightly overhyped. (IG)

  • Two hour decant in glass. Nearly opaque ruby with murky brick edge in color. Pungent nose of plums, red delicious apple, red currants, licorice, tanned leather and tomato leaf. On the palate: red currants, plums, black cherry, sweet tobacco and a backnote of five spice powder. Grainy tannins are perceived somewhat on gums and cheeks. Long finish of plums, licorice, red berries and wood spice.

Wine was purchased recently from a large retailer. Cork disintegrated upon attempting to open the bottle. I doubt this has been stored correctly and am thus not sure its an exemplary bottle to judge from. That said, the wine was definitely not spoiled--in fact, it was quite enjoyable.

  • This one needs food counter the 15.5% ABV. Alone, the back of throat burn is quite evident. Decanted at 65 degrees F for about an hour. The oak is still evident on the nose. Some red fruits, flowers as a well. The palate and nose are dominated by the small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a spiciness and pepperiness that has to be from the cab sauv and cab franc. Medium acidity, medium, integrated tannins and medium finish. Others have said “too young “, but IMO, the longer you let this one sit, the more the alcohol will overpower

  • Troplong Mondot: 1959-2012 (Stockholm, Sweden): Semi-blind (knew which 17 vintages that were being served).
    Dark colour.
Far too young. Difficult to get much from the nose.
There is a tannic wall hiding behind the fruit that makes this feel linear at first. But a bit of deeper study reveals a grand wine in the making, but with still a very long way to go.
The only wine with really blue fruit. It almost feels overdone but is devilishly delicious.

My guess: Didn't get it right, even with only 4 choices left...
Wow! Happy to have 6 btls for when I'm really old.

  • Grand Jury du Vin - Republic of Georgia; 11/1/2023-11/9/2023 (Republic of Georgia then stopover in Paris and Dijon): wine 15 – Super concentrated, very ripe black fruit, blackberry jam, caramel. Big and silky. Very modern wine.

Afterthought – This didn’t surprise me. Very modern. If you enjoy big Napa cabs, this may be a good wine to try. Not a bad wine but definitely modern.

  • Bad cork. Drinkable but disjointed compared to last bottle.

  • Out of the bottle, one could tell this was going to blossom like a firework as it had so much going on. One hour later, a pungent nose of berries, cedar, and dirt (forest floor, minerals, etc). On taste, complex and full body with red and black berries, leather, and wood. It kept evolving over two hours and smoothed out into a med body St. Emilion - a magnificent wine. A taste on day two and I detect something like pastry and cinnamon and it has smoothed out even more. You get your money's worth from this one.

  • Decanted for three hours and back in bottle and brought to restaurant by Phil. This is 90% merlot. Compared to Kapcsandy robertas reserve 2016 which is 100% merlot. The Troplong had more earthiness and acidity and tannins overall very good. Has many more years to go. The Kapcsandy so smooth didnt notice the tannins and even more fruit forward was excellent. The Kapcsandy was the clear winner.

  • High complexity. Extremely well balanced. High concentrated fruit. Excellent balanced acid and tannins.

  • This is a jammy fruit forward wine that if blind could be mistaken for new world IMO. Noticeable alcohol on the finish that coupled with the upfront fruit seems to have it a little out of balance. It is in a good spot and enjoyable and maybe it calms down a little with further age. Not my preference for BDX at this stage though.

  • Vertical and Lunch with Chateau Troplong Mondot - Singapore 2023: Dense, concentrated and big. Nose fruity with cassis and blackberry but fewer tertiary complexity showing versus the 2009 (overall this feels less developed and is more tannic). Needs more time but great potential, even if I prefer the 2009 right now.

Projected score when fully mature: 93-95.

  • Excellent wine drinking beautifully now, but will develop even more over the years. I found the nose relatively closed with maybe a floral-lavender hint, but the palate was complex and "delicious". Excellent integration for fruit and acidity. Tannins fine and relatively silky. Just a pleasure and probably the standout wine of 9 Bordeaux's tasted at our lunch wine tasting.

  • Notes of dark cherry, mace, and tobacco. Decanted about 2 hours. Drinks nice now, but could use more time in bottle.

  • 20 Vintages of Troplong Mondot: This was a trainwreck of a vertical tasting. An average of meager 86.8 pts, only 6 wines with a rating of more than 90pts. Almost all wines pre 2017 and a winemaker/style change have dried out. Too much extraction and heavy oak treatment produced wines that did not age well, have no fruit and charm left. I don’t have group ratings but the sentiment in the room was similar (this was the fastest tasting ever with this group). It was a root day but that can’t explain everything. Also, the provenance or storage of the bottles was no issue (all bought En Primeur, stored perfectly since). Troplong Mondot seems to be a victim of a series of bad choices, mainly the wrong consultant. Luckily, the future looks brighter.

TN: A bit truffles and ripe dark red fruit on the nose. On the palate wild and slightly disjointed with green woody notes and some ripe but wuickly disappearing dark fruit. Very much drying out quickly. Others liked it more.

  • Bday wine side by side with 10 leoville poyferre really opens up hour 5 all the good stuff and the longest finish i have ever had in a wine. Some flavors say on your palate for minutes afterwards. With food it gives you continuation and makes it for a unique experience. My first troplong and I'm a fan. Makes much better experience with food just wow.

  • Decanted for 3 hours at 57 degrees F. Classic Bordeaux markers of cedar , leather and tobacco on the nose. For my palate , this is “Bordeaux varieties”. Can’t discern Merlot/Cab Franc vs Cab Sauv. Either way, this is showing Reall well right now and has a long finish !

  • [Troplong Mondot Dinner at Anhelo]
    Tasted the 2018, 2015, 2010, and 1999.

From memory, not as invigorating as the 2015 or 2018 for whatever reason. Stylistically the wine at Troplong Mondot changed between 2010 and 2015 and even 2018. This was more classical Bordeaux in styling, well-balanced, nuanced enough to pick up terroir, and a good wine overall. Just lacking a bit of oomph and intensity that you see in the most moving bottles. Age can help, but from the get go there just isn't enough stuffing. 92-93 potential

  • FIL's 90th birthday weekend, decanted 3 hours and enjoyed with Wagyu burgers. Drinking well with the decant. Cassis and graphite aromas, medium+ body with plus minerality and acidity on the finish. Dark cherries, blackberries and black licorice. Well put together and balanced wine.

  • A great showing, concentrated and fresh, with a glycerined mouthfeel and loads of minerality alongside the dark berries and perfumed floral notes. Holds its alcohol very well. Lush, fine-grained tannins on the lengthy finish. Accessible even without a decant, but improved throughout dinner.

  • 2010 Troplong Mondot... That's crazy, yo!
    SIXTEEN percent!
I had my eye on this for purchase in NH when it goes on sale, they've still got some bottles in stock.
Twenty-ten is a behemoth of a vintage, holy mackerel!
We had it with cheese from France and Le Whoopee Pie for dessert. Holy cow.
It started off amazingly rich and structured and the alcohol was "hidden."
I said to Jacques and Jill that 16% is like those Dal Forno Amarones that I pick up every now and then.
At first it tasted like a right bank super rich Saint-Emilion. By the end, though, it tasted like an Amarone.
I'm not saying this is a bad thing, we actually got two different ones in one:
2010 Troplong Mondot, table wine, 2010 Troplong, dessert wine.
I actually loved it despite (because of) the wild ride, I'm going to pick up some more!
    Thanks for bringing it, Jacques!
    Rating: 95 points.

  • After a few hours of decanting, this wine was amazing! It's full body, long-lingering tannins. Tabaco on the nose, cassis, and a hint of vanilla.

  • Extremely luxurious bouquet with dark berries, vanilla and coffee. On the palate chocolate coffee, beautiful acidity and a great length. Truly great wine which is in its early maturity stage now and still has a future of 10+ years

  • Very intense, black cherry, plum and chocolate. well balanced but you need to like the mass to appreciate this wine.

  • PnP, deep/dark purple color. Nose had a slight funk to it (which burned off with time), woody, black fruit, cut grass. Palate is blackberry, a touch of milk chocolate, maybe cedar, somewhat tannic mid-palate to the finish. Mouth feel was a bit thin and light-weight for a right-bank Bordeaux. Seemed to come together better with time in air and warming. I had tasted this 4 years ago and remember being more impressed, but certainly enjoyable.

  • Another big wine from the alcohol farming that took place in Bordeaux in 2009 an 2010. This one clocks in at 16% and its definitely cloaked well under gobs of red fruit and impeccable balance. Its the dryness that gave it away for me, in that even though its so dense and packed with cozy red fruit and lots of exotic barrels spices, its weightless and vanishing with a faint sense of oh wait, wait...whats that? Oh, yes, its heat! The finish is a marathon and while I don't know what the future holds for this, its awfully slutty and delicious. As for holding this for decades, I'm still not convinced. Decant for 3 to 5 hours and Drink while its still in balance.

  • Bordeaux 2010 - 10 Years On - 61 Reds: Bordeaux 2010 after 10 years. 61 reds, mostly big names, tasted blind. Average score 92.1 and lower than the more open and charming 2009 vintage last year (93.4). A few observations: A) It’s not yet the harmonious, complex, classic, clean vintage. Especially the masculine appellations of the left bank need at least 5 more years to just open up, potentially longer to soften. B) Left bank trumps right bank thanks to less detectable alcohol, cleaner lines and the two best wines of the vintage (Mouton, Margaux). C) Pomerol shines bright with many strong wines which can all mask the high alcohol levels (best AOC slightly ahead of Pauillac). D) As in 2009, there are several right banks already past peak, incl. big names (Duffau Lagarosse, Ausone). All in all, 2010 is a very good vintage with pockets of greatness but today 2009 shows more open and hence complex. More information, top and worst 10 list, appellation rankings from five participants in the story link.

TN: With a bit of swirling and time in the glass, the wine opened-up showing red and dark fruits, crushed rocks and minerality. Not overly complex but with good precision. Seemed not ready with a good, light texture but still slightly furry tannins and a very high acidity. Paled a bit in comparison to all the heavyweights on the right bank in terms of complexity.

Decanting: This needs at least 3-4 hours in the decanter, in my opinion.

    Group average: 93.8
Group rank: number 23 out of 61 wines

  • This pretty much met expectations. Very powerful and muscular, with an austerity to the style - the fruit was always a bit hidden and cloaked by this austere style, but not a bad thing really. Very serious and impressive wine. Reminds me a little of Bellevue Modotte (which is even bigger, thicker and darker). This feels like it is within its drinking window now - though powerful, the tannins feel quite resolved. This can obviously go many many more years, but if you have a few of these, one could try one already. A bit pricey but it does deliver an interesting experience.

  • Grand Bordeaux 2010 ten years on tasting; 6/21/2020-6/22/2020 (Fribourg): Big Bordeaux 2010 2-day horizontal hosted by a private collector. My 3 main takeaways from the vintage were 1) more frequent perception of heat, 2) a slightly stronger left bank and a less consistent right bank, 3) while in general it is still too early to pop the 2010s, wine selection is key as some appear to be in decline already, especially on the right bank. The top wines were Mouton (99), Margaux (98) and VCC (98). The biggest positive surprise was Clos Manou (95). Biggest disappointment was Pape Clement (86). More details and complete tasting overview included in the tasting story.

    Tasting note:
Beautiful nose showing ripe, mostly red fruit, very fine oak. Powerful, intense even if still quite wild palate. I did see the potential for greatness, though.

  • Initially 95 almost I'm thinking but it got worse over 4 hours not better. Initially juicy velvet merlot then after that drying and no hint of luxury.

  • 16% alcohol. Really intense and wild fruit aromas with real concentrated fruit image with plum, blackberry, clear green spice and match.

Truly a rich and complex wine that floods the senses with all its power and raw tendese. Heavily concentrated rich fruit with darker red berries, leather, vanilla and a distinctly salted touch to an insanely powerful and long finish. This sticks in your mouth for several minutes. Some alcohol are noticeable and are in contrast with the freshness that appears in the wine.

This is a distinctive wine of good and bad. This must be the essence of the Parker scale, but is probably not a wine for everyone. Give it a long time in the cellars. 95 points.

  • One of the top wines of my life in the old days. Tasted blind ... I was not happy with my last and final bottle a few years ago . My wine buddy brought it ... same source same acquisition.

Could not get over the texture ... this has to be new world. My blind Bordeaux wine screamed of Bordeaux on the nose. This was quiet.

The body and integration and texture was out of control... Not showing much age... in the ZONE.

Have been drinking too much CDP and Cab. Wow wine.

  • 89 ONLY because i think it more appropriate to rate bordeaux based on current state of evolvement. Sooooo tannic and WOW....SOOOO tannic.
Decanted and fruits galore dark coming out but overshadowed and no finish except for the tannins and high alcohol. Now, i can tell this is likely going to be a monster...but its going to to be like at least til 2030.

  • Troplong Mondot didn't bring a 2018 to the en primeur tasting at Lord's because they blend next January, so we had this and the 2016 instead. Huge nose of cedar, camphor, jam...Big bodied yet balanced. Best wine of the evening.

  • An outstanding wine. By no means a wine of finesse, this wine is full on! Beautifully integrated fruit, caramel, mocha. This goes on for weeks! No sense of the heat from the alcohol. Somehow it all comes together perfectly. Not for the faint of heart - it is powerful and dark - but truly an exceptional experience. Could still use a little more time but it is all there!

  • 2 days open, not blind
somehow tired, not fruity, modern style, milk chocolate, good lengh but too alcoholic, not elegant

  • Palate coating richness, luscious black plums, cherries, dark chocolate, licorice, espresso and hints of blue fruit get all over your mouth, palate, teeth and gums. The wine is pure velvet in texture with layers of opulent fruits and a finish that sticks. Decadent in character, this is only about potential today. But with more cellaring, if this is your thing, the wine is a beauty.

  • Decanted 3 hours. Juicy and full, but not overpowering or reckless. Pleasant light acidity and silky, slim tannins provide some balance. Though not a QPR winner, a very successful match with Christmas prime rib rotated over charcoal; this a wine that can be called upon when rich foods are on the menu. Though the window likely has years and years, there is seemingly no benefit in holding long.

original notes were powerful fruit but clean
next day starting to smell a little vermouthy
mouth - still powerful fruit, with a savory element as well. after being open for the night it tastes a bit tired. in spite of the comments below suggesting you hold onto this forever, my hunch on this one would be drink now or in the near term.

  • goodness, what to make of this?
whilst many of the 2010's are incredibly concentrated (but impeccably balanced) this wine is just too big to even begin to assess. Amazingly dense, frighteningly tannic and mind-bogglingly complex, it is a wine to admire at this stage, but not to drink. I was weaned on wines like the massive Grange's of the 60's and 70's, but they don't hold a candle to this.
My rating is based on what I hope will happen to this wine, but it is no more than an educated guess.
goodness indeed. If you are a 20 year old reading this, should be good to go when your kids get married. For the rest of us, perhaps the grandkids can open one as they celebrate entry into their retirement homes.

  • Definitely too young at this stage. Needs a serious decant to reveal the underlying spices, forest floor and dark fruit. The nose becomes gorgeous after a few hours, and the wines potential really shows. Excited to see how this develops!

  • The biggest stumper of the blind tasting. Seemed almost comically gigantic with towering young oak, buckets of ultra ripe fruits, and impossibly thick tannins. But in spite of it’s sheer size and weight it carries the 16% abv shockingly well and on the whole was deeply complex and wonderfully balanced. Not at all a style that I’m currently choosing for myself, but I enjoyed experiencing it and can’t deny it’s greatness. I’d wait AT LEAST 10 years on the next, but 20+ would be even better obviously.

  • Altaya annual wine tasting (Hong Kong): Rich, dense, pack with delicious fruits, refreshing acidity and fine tannins. It has all the right ingredients, and it will be a wonderful treat in the later years. Not sure if it was the bottle was opened for a period of time, but it didn't taste like some of those big 2010 monsters that's so powerful and will take a long time to soften up. The Troplong Mondot was balanced and generous, one you'd like to keep drinking and enjoy. Excellent wine.

  • What I expected was a huge, full bodied, over the top, opulent, deep, sexy, flamboyant, fruit bomb that would break the 95 point barrier. What I got was a high alcohol version of a '10 Cantemerle. Very disappointing. Nothing extraordinary here, overpriced. One can do so much better for so much less.

  • Bordeaux 2009 vs. 2010 - Check in on 50 well known Chateaux: Very dark purple. Just when you thought the 2009 was impressive this monster came along. Extremely ripe but at the same time aromatically deep with notes of dark fruit, plum, caramel, licorice and some minty notes, an true explosion of flavors. Lots of “aahs” and “oohs” on the table… On the palate, fresh and silkily tannic with layers and layers of fruit. Wow, much better than the 2009 and a great future ahead. Downright impressive left many speechless at the table. Of course you have to like mass to enjoy this wine but it is rare to see that much mass with that much aroma, I guess that is the hallmark of 2010. (WOTN #3 /Group Score 98.3/RP99)

  • Deep dark in color, pungent aromas of licorice, black cherry, boysenberry, cocoa, truffle, spice create the intoxicating perfume. The powerful, rich concentrated wine is sweet, lush, opulent and utterly, mouth filling. • After the tasting on July 24 we decided to replicate the tasting but decanting the wines for a day, so all of these wines have been cold-decanted for 36 hours and tasted single blind.

Roasted bread, much more oak, blood-sausage, cold smoke, dried berry smoked bacon, sunday roast, mocha, espresso, also truffled mashed potatoes. Super long, really amazing with the crazily high level of alcohol surprisingly well integrated.

  • Incense, jammy dark berries, spice, truffle and fresh brewed espresso notes open to silk and velvet textures, lush tannins, opulent, sexy textures and layer after layer of sweet, sexy, voluptuous chocolate covered berries and black cherries. Why this wine is controversial is beyond me. Different strokes for different folks. I loved it from barrel and like it even more from bottle. Christine Valette from time to time prefers the 2010 over the 2005 or even the 1990. I am not sure I agree. But I am happy to own the wine and look forward to tasting it over the years.

  • AHA Bordeaux Wine Tasting of the 2010 vintage (Ritz Carlton Washington DC): This is a massive tannic bomb yet most enjoyable. Tannins 9/10. Merlot 90, Cab 5 and Franc 5. Very young, dark red and ruby and hints of spice.

  • Heart's Delight 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Sofitel): Cool new Art Deco label design on this 2010. (Actually they said the 2009 was the first to feature it.) This is really, really plush and just as deep as the left bankers, nothing in here would have clued me in we were crossing the river here. It's got a nuttiness to it probably from the oak.

  • Tasted at Bordeaux 2010 Arrivage Tasting tonight. Jumps out of the glass with tons of fruit (blueberries, blackberries), graphite, chocolate, tobacco and quite some sweet oak. Huge body and massive density, bordering being heavy, but tons of tannins and quite some acidity give it some grip and structure. This is a massive "in-your-face" style of St-Emilion, but with surprising structure and some complexity. While I wouldn't argue the very high level of quality, I liked some others (more classic ones) better.

  • Grande Bordeaux Tasting, 2010 (Grand Hyatt Hong Kong): Great balance - almost as good as the '09 with fresher acidity to cut the fruit (blackberries and blueberries) and tannins. Good length. Looking forward to this after a few years.
"2010 will age better than the 2009 due to the higher acidity"

  • UGCB 2010 HK, Did someone just put fireworks in my mouth? This is a monster wine. Just like a dinosaur breaking its shell, we cannot forsee how it may be. Huge nose, before you even bendover its already there. Flora/fauna, jams, tropic fruits, subtropic fruits, french fruits, some fruits. Huge tannins, big finish that produces fruitloops.

    Over 20+years, perhaps 90-99.

  • Yet another massive wine but I thought this is impressive at how well balance for what it is and especially with 16% alcohol. Opulent, flamboyant but there is good freshness for good lift and actually can try to access it. Reminded me of SQN, huge in everything but able to achieve the balance. Full bodied (of course...), great depth and scale. The tannin is high but thanks to the sweet dark fruits and fresh acidity that well buffer and formed the creamy, succulent mouth feel. Long and sweet. Not a wine that I prefer but a good wine making definitely.

  • 87% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. I was shocked to look at my notes after the tasting to see this was my highest scoring St. Emilion. I think this is a testament to how well this region did in 2010. Favorite wine from this estate ever (2003, 2005 or 2009). Black color. Notes of caramel, wet stones and blackberry. Sweet, long finish. 95-96 points.

  • UGC tasting. Major black fruit, currant and black pepper on the nose and palate. This was spicy, dense and tannic. A big wine that will need time.

  • Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2010 (Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Toronto, ON): My favourite Righty of the night. Purchased.

  • 2010 UGC Bordeaux Tasting Chicago (Drake Hotel): Aroma is very tough, with leather and oak. Taste is acidic, lots of tannin and not much fruit showing. Tough to get a sense on this one.

  • 2010 Bordeaux UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel, Chicago IL): Nose: There is a very noticeable amount of oak on the nose along with tones of black fruits, liqueur, wood spices, and some dark red cherries.

Taste: Medium/full bodied with medium acidity and very chewy tannins. While the tannins are overpowering, the feel underneath was very nice with good depth and tones of black fruits, wood spices, liqueur, and dark red cherries.

Overall: While much more in the extracted camp, there was some very good underlying material. It certainly needs years to smooth out and fully find itself, but it can certainly bloom with time.

  • UGC Chicago (The Drake Hotel - Chicago, IL): Very smooth, super polished...almost seemed manufactured. Dark, sappy fruits, lots of vanilla, and sweet tannins. Not really my thing.

  • Totally overblown, ridiculous wine.

  • A bit bitter on the finish, but should resolve okay considering the sweet underlying fruit. 92-94+

  • Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2010 Vintage Tasting San Francisco, nose of black cherry fruit, lots of cedar and cigar box and oak, same on the palate, big body, lovely and rich fruit tasted here, mouth filling, slightly fruit forward, yet somehow subdued waiting to peak in 5 years, long finish.

  • Union des Grands Crus 2010 Bordeaux Tasting (Palace Hotel - San Francisco): Super rich on the nose showing aromas of concentrated black cherries, sweet blackberries, tar, plenty of spicy black pepper, and a touch of lead pencil. Quite sweet on the palate, displaying rich blackberries, blueberries, cassis, charred oak, and spicy black pepper. This is a huge, concentrated wine that stylistically has really separated itself from the pack. It’s certainly a well-made wine, but not for everyone, myself included. Very good-

  • Dark smoky nose. Quite closed today; Very rich fruit, concentrated and big on ripe fruit! Not so finesseful. Tannic. A bit worked? Hard to call. 91-93?

  • Average nose of red fruit, a bit vegetal... very concentrated, enormous ripe tannins, red and black cherries, chocolate, very very long aftertaste

  • UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): The bouquet is a bit reticent, but it is nevertheless intense with beautiful dark fruits, exclusive oak and some sweet spices. On the palate an overwhelming start with sweet ripe dark fruits, exclusive oak, a lot of good acidity and creamy, round tannin. Full bodied and yet elegant as well. A great wine.

  • From an assemblage of 83% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, the wine is inky in color with notes of espresso bean, blueberry, licorice, chocolate, smoke, black cherry and plum liqueur. Thick, intense, tannic, polished, rich and powerful, this wine fills your mouth and coats your palate with multiple waves of sensuously textured fruits, licorice and chocolate. Could this end of the decade wine be the finest vintage of Chateau Troplong Mondot produced yet? It has some stiff competition with 2009, 2005 and 1990. Regardless of where it fits in, this is a great wine that belongs in any Troplong Mondot lovers cellar!

  • Troplong Mondot has been slowly increasing the amount of Cabernet Sauvignon in the vineyards. 2010 is the first year featuring a substantial portion (14%) in the blend, along with 83% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Previous recent vintages have included about 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Currently, the vineyard is planted to 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the goal set to about 20%. The Cabernet Sauvignon is planted in clay soil, as it does not grow well in limestone. Yields were low in this vintage at 32 hectoliters per hectare, the same as in 2009. The wine reached 15.5% alcohol. For people that like to compare, 2009 came in at 15.4% alcohol. The pH is 3.6 is for the Merlot and 3.75 in Cabernet Sauvignon. Those low levels of pH allow the wine to feel fresh and offer lift. 2010 expresses more lift than 2009.

Midnight black in color, with a perfume filled with minerality, licorice, blueberry, blackberry, jam and clay, this dense, chocolate covered, sweet boysenberry filled wine packs a lot of wine into the bottle. Sensuous, palate staining, incredibly concentrated and rich, the wine coats your palate. The experience ends with a long bath of chocolate covered blackberries and black cherry liqueur that combine for a hedonistic treat. This decadent wine is one of the great vintages of Troplong Mondot. 97-98 Pts
