Deep yellow with a shade of gold. Slight mustiness at first, then classic tea and dried peach with high toned petrol after about an hour. Medium weight, not particularly dense or powerful for this cuvée. Barely off dry stone fruit and guava with excellent but not shrill acidity and a light kiss of soil. Probably at peak now and an excellent if understated version of Clos Ste. Hune.

Still painfully young. Intense acidity, some lemon juice, dusty, light-bodied but very young. I would let this rest for another 10 years before approaching another bottle

A transformative wine. Mineral, rocks on aroma but unlike last bottle from 10 years ago, the flavor profile developed a rounder, fuller fruit forwardness to it. It isn't soft but much softer than my first bottle drank in 2010. Very different at 20 years of age. One that belongs on the bucket list.

Medium yellow. Classic black tea aromas. Middle weight but essentially delicate. Beautifully focused, dry, citrus, and loads of soil on the finish. Tertiary petrol emerges with air. Unexpectedly superb bottle given middling experience with this in the past.
And even better the next night-mouthwatering lemon acidity, guava, and again a finish that is drenched with soil. I don't think I gave this vintage proper credit when I tasted it earlier in its life. Pretty classic now with real staying power.

Riesling Study #1 (Atoboy (Manhattan, NY)): Just a quick taste. This is really austere with barely any fruit with powered stones and chalk and steely minerals. I don't feel like this has budged and not sure how long it would take to come around.
Medium yellow. Tea and citrus without any secondary aromas. Medium weight, dry, complex, and long. Perhaps not as dense or powerful as the top, top vintages, but that's okay. What else can I say except classic and going strong at age 17? Nowhere near the end of its run.

Petrol infused with peaches and honey. A contrast and compliment at the same time. Good acidity. Loads of flavors. Ginger, orange peel, smokey, petrol with a viscous texture. Wonderful.

Clos Ste Hune vertical 83-09 with Anne Trimbach. Historic vineyard of only 1,67 ha in the village of Hunawihr in central Alsace. Limestone soil, cool southeast position with morning sun.
"UNCLE" favorite vintage, has everything you need in a Riesling, took 15 years to reach the top, lazerlike focus.
Beautiful acidity, tight, dry, light nose. Young feeling, many years left in this bottle.

Light golden in color. Nose is fragrant and shows its age, this is a mature Riesling. Still I found none of the petrol aromas other CT users mention. What I did find was ripe tropical fruit, pineapple, melon but the most prominent aromas were those of floral honey, honeycomb and beeswax. On the palate there was a nice interplay between the ripe and decadent fruit with acidity which was supportive and never obtrusive. Nice long finish. Very good wine but not up to my expectations for a Clos St. Hune. Also I think I might have enjoyed this wine more had I drank it much younger and as for future evolution I think it all depends on how you like it - it's not going to fade soon but honeycomb is not really my cup of tea...

Deep yellow. Prototypical mature Riesling nose-tea, petrol, peach. Full bodied. Deeply pitched dry stone fruit, excellent acidity, and strong back end soil. Superb for drinking now or over next decade. A rich, meaty Clos Ste. Hune.

93 pts

While drinkable, lacked the concentration and power of earlier bottles and had gone "flabby" prematurely. A lightweight melange of ripe melon and diesel with no acidity or minerality to provide a backbone. A pity - my last bottle from a normally c 93pt wine.

Trimbach Clos Ste. Hune & Cuvee Frederic Emile Vertical with James Handford MW (Handford Wines, London): Light golden in colour, glossy. Rich on the nose, “petrolly” feel, floral and with mineral edge. Quite rich on the palate to start and takes a bit of a pause till the acid structure shows up. A touch of residual sugar feel on the palate. Not as focussed as the other CstH and definitely very young now. Needs time we believe. 91-92 for now.
Wonderful, especially when it got warmer in the glass. I can't describe the flavor because it resembles nothing else I know. Inviting and texturally thick.

Very distinctive riesling. Golden colored in the glass, more like a Chardonnay. The nose is very minerally. If I didn't know better, I might think these vines were planted in sheer rock. The terroir comes across very very well in this wine. Much more so than most. Even for dry rieslings, this wine is dry dry. I loved it. My wife, who prefers oaky/buttery chardonnay, basically spit it out. I would say this is a love it or hate it wine. We had a 2005 Frederick Emile the night before and for the cost difference, that wine is probably the way to go for most people but if you don't mind the high price point and want a unique experience, this is a great one.

Looks just a little advanced and shows some exotic notes on the nose. There are some apricot, musk, smoke and honey things going on along with some fruit rind and minerals. In the mouth it is intense, chalky and chewy with good drive and persistence but the general preference was for the Petaluma at around 1/20th of the price.

Dinner at Caprice (Hong Kong): Nose is tight initially, but it opened up to show mandarin, pear and intense minerality. Superbly impressive palate - powerful, pure and extremely persistent. This is a truly great wine only just starting to shed its youth.

Tasting for my birthday, 01/20/2010: hints of petrol in the nose, rubber, some lemon, strong minerals in the palate, also some petrol, lemon peel, very strong acidity. I'm not a big fan of that style but I give it a high score because it is very well made! Many people regard this as being the finest dry riesling overall!

Napa Who? Lunch with Non-Indigenous Wines (Yountville, California): Pale. Floral with a lot of petrol for a relatively young Clos Ste. Hune. Viscous, dry, tremendous structure, explosive inner mouth aromatics. Will benefit from many more years in the bottle but a treat to taste at this early juncture.
