Opened and decanted. Ruby core with faded outer 10%. Pine needles, black fruit, and soil. Medium weight, unbelievably calm, poised, and balanced. Black and blue fruit, complicating herbs, and excellent mineral core. The flow and progression across the palate are impeccable. This is a marvel of understated Syrah elegance. At an early point of maturity and it should have a very long plateau at this glorious level.

Shrimp Heads Ride Again (PS Steak (Pseudo La Belle Vie, Mpls, MN)): Very dark red color. This had 4.5hrs of slow-O time. Drank a glass over an hour. Slate, firmish tannins, medicinal, Flintstone vitamins, dried herbs, garrigue-like, spices, silky, dark fruit. A little brooding, I think this could have used a full on decant. 92+ to 93pts.

Return of the Shrimp Heads to La Belle Vie, I mean PS Steak in Minneapolis. 6 of us back in our beloved lounge w/ the old LBV lounge menu. CV,KB,LI,BB,JV & MA. Mark's excellent btl tonight & 1 of only 2 reds opened w/ the lamb sliders at the end of great evening. Coming on the heels of my 23yr old fully resolved '01 Giacosa Barbaresco this felt much more youthful & almost primary. I think standalone this would seem more mature. I found this well fruited & super silky. All together enjoyable if not mesmerizing. Right now, its beautiful fruit jumps out most but there are also those classic NR markers like; meat, spice, mineral & garrigue. Very satisfying now with plenty of upside if you have more!

It was a bit cold in the cellar, but TBH one of the best matured wines lately, nearly 97 I believe
Intense aromas of leather, cedar wood and spices, cinnamon, black pepper, concentrated fruits and Vegemite/ Ox reduction juice ... tapenade, black olives and herbs
The palate is exquisite, with a long aftertaste over tapenade and olives, and a bit mid palate, with acid backbone, tannins are subtle and the Syrah shows its great potential on a terrific vintage. Drinking window kicks here ! Best wine of the Rhone Trip

Right in the sweet spot. Opened two hours before but not decanted. God I love Cote Rotie - that rich, meaty nose, with notes of tobacco and leather. So evocative. Beautiful balance especially given that 2010 was such a big year. I like the RR house style which is less oaked than guigal but it needs more time to mellow out and this one was singing.

A beautiful dinner at Comice, Paris (Comice , Paris): The ever welcoming and hospital Etheliya at Comice , Paris dropped a hint that she had received a few bottles of this and the 2009 and albeit priced a bit too steep we went along and frankly what a show. Had we had this blind we would have said late 90s Guigal Landonne albeit the lack of obvious oak would have perplexed us. Smokey bacon, black cherry, pepper and as textbook great Cote Rotie as it gets . Drinking exceptionally well now to the point we are thinking of delivering our own from IB as frankly not sure how better this will get. That been said it did feel like it had a lot of life in the tank. Magnificent and an easy 96

Dark fruit, smoky, spicy, a little meaty, floral - lots of depth on the nose and a little shy at first, increasingly complex after some time in the glass. On the palate very dense showing great concentration of fruit, notes of spices. The balance is remarkable, the tannins are very much present, but ripe and round and really well integrated. Lots of power, but so elegant and complete. Vibrant, very persistent finish. While not a crime to open now, probably best to wait a little longer. Wonderful. 95-96+

Super Syrah. There is still a bit of purple in this garnet colored wine. Traditional Cote Rotie in the best sense. Dark berry fruits, olives, herbs and a touch of spice. There are layers of aromas here - amazing. Great wine that is still young. Dry, textured. Tastes just like it smells. I love this style and think it will be even better in five years. Try again in 2026. Real deal. (95+)

Virtual Northern Rhone with 1 shiraz (zoom): Decanted for 45 minutes before transferring to jars for transport at 5pm. Poured into glass at 8pm and drank a glass over 1 hour. This wine is clearly young and also a pleasure to drink right now. Meaty, rich, cool climate, underbrush, olives and flowers. The fruit is red to black. I'm going to keep my eye out for this producer.

Virtual Northern Rhone Tasting (Home): Very dark red color. Decanted for 45 minutes before transferring to jars for transport at 5pm. Poured into glass at 8pm and drank a glass over 2 hours. Very aromatic nose with dried earth, orange zest, blood, citrus, sappy dark berries and blueberry, lightly perfumed, violets, garrigue, meaty and savory as this continues to evolve in glass. The palate is has pretty fruits running the gambit from black to blue to red, ripe yet tart, medium plus body, animal, floral, citrus hints, lovely garrigue and excellent length and texture. This is a young beauty with a promising future. 94(+)pts. My #2 and tied for group WOTN.

A killer wine, really showing the manly side of La Landonne today, albeit a wee bit polished as always from this producer. No mater, olives are here, hanged meat, Syrah hors classe, extremely young but actually approachable, as many if the great 2010's are. #Møntergade#HSA

A wow wine and beat out dozens of other 2010 themed wines on this day at Chevalier being declared the wine if the day in mass. Textbook high quality Syrah showing black pepper bacon and smoky meaty qualities. Wonderfully balanced with dark blackberry, toast, new leather and black spices undercut with great lift. Long finish too boot. Impressive!

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind 2010 (Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Black cherry with roasted meat, black pepper, and impeccable structure, I immediately thought this Hermitage. So close. Ken tried to fool the group by asking if this is La Mouline, La Turque or La Landonne, but I knew this was not Guigal (plus could tell it was 100% Syrah), so ID'ed the lieu-dit and then producer correctly. Great already now, also with upside.

Nose of black fruits, black berries, cherries, flowers with cola and meat funk tertiaries. Palate of black fruits, blueberries, cherries, spices, olives. Youthful and vibrant tannins, which brought out the freshness. Much more ready than the 2006 tasted earlier this year. Enjoyed this thoroughly tonight. Whilst this should improve with a bit more time, it is already enjoyable and good for many years ahead.

Delightful. Still very young. So primary, peppery, and big, but surprisingly approachable. I thought this was 2006/08, never would I have thought this 2010. A fantastic wine that will last decades. Some really nice licorice on the second day. Served by SH.

Dark in color and fruit, the wine is surprisingly forward for such a young vintage of La Landonne. Full-bodied, with good purity of fruit that focuses on the dark red berry side, the wine is peppery, tannic, and round in the mouth. If aging adds more length, this would earn an even higher score.=

Out of this world. Extremely elegant, en danseuse, very much on the Burgundian edge if Côte-Rôtie, yet with black olives, dark fruit as well as red berries and some garrigue. The elegance is not polished, rathger, it seems natural. Still young, of course. 97+ point. #Mangevins

Clean floral nose, flowers and oaks but not much dark soils yet. Fine tannins, so despite the young age, rather smooth. Excellent acidity level. Obviously oaks were yet to be integrated, still plenty of oaks lingering at finish. Not exceptionally long. ABV 13% with warmth at backend which was a surprise given the vintage. Not certain if this was as good as the ‘98 vintage just opened this week. Followed this over 2 days, prefer ‘98 vintage.

At wine dinner at FransS: This wine I could not manage between all the quality-wines served by Frans this evening. A fruit-driven wine, some earthiness, a bitter, liquorice and after some time I even noticed a short sweetness. Despite the absolute quality, I limit the points to 93 because of the lack of elegance. I am open to re-judgement, but this time I could not recognize the extreme quality that was noticed by other guests and by XA.

A tasting at home with friends (At home - Haarlem): Recently Xavier Auerbach wrote: 'utterly refined' and 'a totally flawless display of perfection, silk and power' Exaggerated? No, although I change the word power into the word persistence. Let me add some characteristics to this wine: feminin, raspberries, earthiness, black berries, super tannins, looooong aftertaste, fantastic bitters. The wine made me speechless. A few months ago I bought six at auction. I'm very happy!!

Mais c’est une merveille! This wine is totally at one with itself, “ruht in sich” as the Germans say, flawless and seamless, an essence of Côte Rôtie, so perfect that descriptors are both superfluous and inadequate, a totally flawless display of perfection, silk and power, flowers and fruit and terroir. This reaches into the deepest depths of vinous expression in an utterly refined and precise fashion. My score expresses what I cannot put into words. At Café De Klepel, Amsterdam, NL.

Lovely fresh nose, burst out of the bottle with white pepper, paprika, roasted vegetables, some sweet fruits. Medium Body, medium + tannin. Delicious but feels a little light through the mid-palate though so wonder whether the fruit will sustain and whether time will help it put on weight. The nose is sensational but on this showing writing checks that the body can't quite cash. I’d like to try another bottle of this in 5 years.

Wow, this wine is a Knockout. Obviously drank it to young, but still an amazing bottle. Bouquet of sour cherries, fresh plums cool freshness, liquid stone and some white pepper. Over 4 hours it changed from upfront fruit, to closing down developing additional aromas (safran, Quite full bodied and long I will not open another bottle for 3-5 years, since I expect this wine will even improve with time and the tannins right now are fine, but very young and massive.

Fine Wines of Northern Rhone - hosted by Norsk Vinkelnerforening and Mark Andrew MW: Got kind of the Medoc feeling smelling this wine. Blackcurrant, some lightly vanilla touch, coffee and bark. Still really young and packed with flavours - mostly dark fruit and pepper on the palate. More Cote-Rotie here. Long dark finish.

A private dinner (Café De Klepel, Prinsenstraat 22, Amsterdam, NL): Perfection. Far too young, but it has not closed down completely. Once again I am speechless. A magnificent end to a day filled with magnificent wines.

EWS -- Cote Rotie Tasting: Mute nose. Rich and spicy mouthfeel. The fruit is somewhat lacking for me. Nutty, darker aromas dominate. Hint of apricot jam. Abrupt finish. Other tasters found a more unique expression of the soil here -- I could not connect with this wine.

Decanted and drank over 3 hours. Awfully young and tight. Nice red and balck fruits on the nose balanced with a savoury, spicy and slighly earthy/herbal notes. Medium/full bodied, giving an impression of strength without being overpowering.

North Rhone 2010 Horisontal Tasting: Earthy and perfumed dark plum nose with a beautiful touch of violets and sea water.
Tight cool and polished plums on the palate with an almost violent structure. A huge wine that seem complete but still extremely young.

Tough tasting Rostaing's this time of year - very close knit. Ball of blueberries and violets. Good tannic Structure (I prefer Cote Blonde this year)
