A nice aged Cab. Minimal sediment but the wine had a hint of cloudiness. Still plenty of fruit, touch of pleasant vegetal note, oak influence is there as well. Still drinking well but I don't think there will be any much improvement with further age.

A bottle brought up in somebody else's cellar. Really more like a basement with no humidity control. Dry crumbly cork was the damage done.
Garnet core and bricked at the rim. A bit cloudy, too. This bottle cotained a wine to drink with your eyes closed. 2
Nosing revealing some promise. Nicely developed and nothing poking out to offend. Good complexity and totally modern. 12
Easy drinking and still in my window for Napa age. Nice medium body and acidity and just enough structure left to hold up the flavors of black plums and berries, licorice, tar, mint, cocoa and a bit of new leather. Stingy tasting size pours as there were a few of us drinking, but everybody revisited. 17
Finish was long and pleasant with some evolution as it faded. Technically this bottle was free to me, so OUTSTANDING qpr and luckily the Genie was freed from the bottle just in time last night. 8
I know that the math doesn't work, but low score on appearance wasn't really the wine's fault...

This was my lone bottle and was singing tonight. Shared with friends. The nose was nice with a typical Napa Cab with some spices and cocoa on the nose. The palate had a flavor profile of black and red cherries, chocolate, and hints of vanilla and oak from the integrated tannin structure from the barrel. A nice finish left me impressed with this wine overall. Think I should have bought more of this. In a nice window currently so if you have a bunch I would drink one to judge for yourself. While not from one of Napa's heralded vintages, this was a great wine tonight.

It’s a deep dark cab with a nice almost dark jam smell. I can taste notes of dark plum and deep raspberry. In the middle I can feel the velvet smooth texture and then it comes back with a slight tartness on the finish.

Undeniably Old World in style, this is deep, muscular, and tightly wound, yet shows classic restraint. The bouquet opens up to currants, leather, and lavender, picking up a whiff of licorice after an hour of air. Full bodied, structured, and youthful on the palate, with compact fruit, fresh rosemary, and a nice mouthfeel. Long, expressive, and powerful. A beautiful wine. Decant or let it slumber.

classic Napa cab done just right in every single aspect. excellent balance between the juice and the tannin. look for berries, plum, vanilla and leather on the nose and a bold/muscular but balanced mouth feel. outstanding! decant at least 3 hours for this wine to open up.

A perfectly adequate Napa cab, with a nice nose of fruit, medium weight and light tannins. I would have expected more for the price. This drank like a $25 bottle.

Poured through an aerator without decanting at all. Very strong aromas of black currant, black Olive, cassis, cigar box, and some brown sugar/vanilla. Nice tannins and structure which will probably continue improving over the next five years. Black cherry on finish and some grittiness for medium plus finish in length.

Opened 1h before pasta dinner. I've been reading mixed reviews of this wine on CT over the past year, so I was very pleased to be greeted with a full berry nose and a lush palate cleansing experience. Full bodied, lots of red berries, black cherry, oak, tannin finish. Great balance. Maybe this was going through a funky phase in some cellars, but today, this bottle exceeded my expectations (which were based largely on mixed CT reviews and my own lackluster experience with this wine about 18 months ago). I agree with previous reviews that this is not a "value" wine, however that does not detract from the tasting experience.

It's decent and drinkable, but also bland and unremarkable. Tried it right after open and a couple days later which revealed no improvement. No real reason I can see to let this one sit.

The wine was excellent for a dinner party You need to decant at least 60 minutes before serving - 90 if you have the time. Once it opens it is a good solid wine that you can enjoy with family or friends over a dinner

Loved this bottle. When first opened, strong blackberry and brown sugar aromas burst forth. Decanted 2 hours and the nose calmed down a bit, but still smelled great. Dark, inky purple color and rim. Taste delivered what the nose promised. Fruit forward, but sufficient tanins and acidity to maintain balance. Medium finish. Served with beef kabobs and corn on the cobs. Wife finished the bottle when my back was turned; had a 3rd glass (which she NEVER does). Ready to drink now.

Used to be a wine that I always enjoyed opened. Call it a more refined palate or now comparing the QPR from other $50 bottles or maybe a combination of both. Pop and pour through vinturi as this bottle shouldn't need a ton of sleep.
All around flat from the start. Slightly tannic with a hint of red berry and spice. Drank over 3 hours. Opened up slightly to become a decent drink, but completely underwhelming. No finish or complexity at all.
Would I drink again? Maybe on someone else's dime, but def. the last time I drop $40-$50 on this.

Balanced acidity and fruit, tannins were somewhat subdued. After a few hours it was feeling rather thin, and the next day supported those initial thoughts. Overall: Drank like a $25-$35 cabernet rather than the $50+ dollars this bottle typically fetches.

Ripe nose of black olive, slightly candied cherry. Juicy and forward now, though quite satisfying and possessing enough structure for food and a handful more years. No reason to wait on this.

Fruit on the nose but limited. Good red color, slightly transparent, some tanin, taste was pleasant but weak. I normally prefer Shiraz so that may be a personal bias. A well made wine but too expensive for the end result.

oK. I read all the reviews. Some loved it. Others dissed it as short on finish, not complex enough, singular. I thought it had a great mouth feel, dark inky, purple and legs. I was waiting because the tasting note said this wine starting drinking well in 2012. So I waited. Then I thought, I have 12 bottles of this and why not crack a bottle. After all, it is Wednesday :). I am glad I did. Delicious and some tannins and not the longest finish but nice. I tend to drink to taste wine generally without food. this was/is exceptional and I am glad that I have 11 more bottles. I may make this a yearly project.

So as a little blind taste test we had this and the hands of time which is also from stags leap wine cellars. The hand and time is half this price and it won out every time. While this is a decent bottle of wine there are so many others in this range which blow this out of the water. Tasting notes: purple red in color. Acidity was scant as were he tannins. Lacking that silky mouth coating feel or richness and complexity. Very unidirectional and while a nice wine with a modest finish it was far was outstanding. Now I understand its young and I ran it through a menu decanter and let it sit for an hr but in don't think more time would help.

I have tasted a Stags Leap Artemis cab on a few occasions and I do not feel this wine is all it's hyped to be. The average rating by the CT community is 90, but Wine Spectator scores it 83. My experience with the 2009 bottle is closer to WS, as I rate it an 86. I may give Artemis one more go in the future, but it doesn't have a hot track record with me...especially at $43. I prefer a more full-mouthed feel and more complexity. I may consider Stags Leap's other cabernet offerings like Cask 23, FAY, or SLV...none of which I have tried.
Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)
Note: Cost reflects base price only; it excludes any taxes and shipping.

Not giving much in the nose, quite tannic and tight on the palate, and rather short in the finish with lots of tannins and some dry wood; perhaps it's shutting down today? was reluctant to give it any score at this stage; but well, 87-88 points for now; would like to try it again in a few years if possible.

Eucalyptus and green herbs on the nose, with green plum and smoky dark fruit; lovely dark bramble fruits, blackberry, and dark currant fruit notes, with some green herbs (thyme?). Good mouthfeel and length. Delicious wine - good ripe fruit and typicity and not overextracted.

Gave several hours in the decanter. Rich plumb tones in the glass. Nose is full of twigs, rosemary and other herbs, dark chocolate, light bacon smoke and tart dark berries. The palate is wide open with silky dark fruit and more cocoa, all held together with bright tannin. There are more green herbals and lingering black tea notes as well. Finishes with a mellow kick (as oxymoron-ic as that sounds), wrapping in the smokey fruit from the nose again. Nice. PJG: 90

A solid offering that packs a punch. It is somewhat youthful in October 2012, but approachable and even luxuriant after a good hour of exposure. This seems to have more oak than some of the Artemis offerings of yore.

At Chicago Chop House, Ryder Cup weekend, to go with the Tomahawk Ribeye. The nose was locked up tight upon opening and took at least 30 minutes to show any fruit. Once past that point it stated to open up nicely on the nose and palate. The tannins are firm and dry, the wine seemed fairly well in balance at such a young age. It was a noble companion to the perfectly cooked steak meal we were enjoying. We were baby killers with this selection but there were not many aged options at the $150 price point. I will hold the one bottle I have for a few more years.

Opened on July 25, 2012. Right away the color is striking in its pristine uniformity. After decanting for a half hour there was not a big nose on it as I was expecting. While certainly a Napa Cab it was more delicate and spicy on the front than other Cabs from the region with a nice smooth woodsy finish.

Tasted at Brix wine bar in Omaha. Nose: Medium plus expressiveness, elegant scents of dark fruit - blue berry and black berry - with distinct floral scents and a hint of eucalyptus. Palate: Medium plus bodied, great balance, showing spicy blue and black fruit up front which carries nicely through the mid-palate where it's joined by a surprising tangyness. Finish: Lengthy sense of spicy dark fruit.

Nose and overall taste of the wine was muted when the bottle was first opened, but the wine really opened up after 30 minutes. Classic cab flavors with good balance of oak, alcohol and acidity. Good wine for the price and not that far off from Stag's Leap's current estate offerings.

Decanted for 4+ hours, and drank alongside an 08 Rudius Cab and an 06 Quilceda Creek. I have to say this Stags Leap was definitely the odd bottle out...
This isn't a bad wine, but next to those other two wines, I found everything in this kind of muted. Buttery nose, some spices, definitely more restrained on the fruit, but it was just missing complexity I thought. Tannic, short finish. Just doesn't have a lot going on. I'd say spend the $42 on 3 bottles of Columbia Crest H3 :)

Intense dark purple color. Slightly muted nose with earth tones and hints of blackberry and spice. Big, full body entry bursting with creme de casis, blackberry jam, clove and spice. Long finish with slightly bitter black current, dark chocolate and clove. Overall, solid balance of fruit, acids and firm tannins. This wine is young but showing well and should be singing in a couple of years with good cellaring potential. Outstanding QPR if you can find it for less than $40.

After being underwhelmed with many prior vintages, the '09 Artemis delivers (note this coincides w Antinori taking a 15% equity position and assuming winemaking responsibilities in '07 - i.e. things are getting better). Drank against the '08 Sullenger Nickel & Nickel, and the '09 Caymus, and the Artemis compared very well, showing some of the nuances of the Nickel, while also having some of the heft of the Caymus. A great bottle of Stags Leap cab, can be found for $36/btl, do yourself a favor and get a case now.

Drank alongside of an 08 Shafer One Point Five and an 08 Phelps Napa Valley Cab. There is a chance that the bottle was damaged.. so we're going to try another shortly. The nose was not fruity at all. It had rather earthy tones across the board. The wine was the least fruity of the group on the palate. Leather, some spice, and a little bit of fruit towards the end. Not the best finish.

Maybe on someone else's dime, but def. the last time I drop $40-$50 on this.

Nice. PJG: 90

Palate: Medium plus bodied, great balance, showing spicy blue and black fruit up front which carries nicely through the mid-palate where it's joined by a surprising tangyness. Finish: Lengthy sense of spicy dark fruit.

Tasty, great price, but too young.

Full bodied, jammy currants. Smooth finish. Four out of five stars.
