A Valentine's Day dinner treat! Ripe peach in color; nose showed peach and unripe pear; full lush brioche and citrus hints on the palate with a long fresh clementine finish.

Very much in the drinking zone. Nice aged flavor (think raisins and stewed fruit) but tons of fine bubbles and brightness left. Enjoyed the experience!

Good, but slightly oxidized aromas if hazelnuts was slightly distracting from rich powerful fruit qualities. Enjoyable, but slightly over the hill for my tastes.

Shellfish bouquet w. preserved fruit. Wonderful palate w. a creamy texture, crispy bubbles, still fresh, quite slender and chalky. Not particularily fruity, more structure, but a well-balanced structufe. Good length.

Just lovely. A friend brought this for Sunday 'after our morning walk' brunch. It had been in her father's cellar and he recently passed away with a note to 'drink by 2022'. It was great and we gave her a good birthday toast as well. And I don't see why it doesn't have more time.

Very nice Champagne! Nose showed straw, brioche, and apple blossom, with hints of spice and lemon peel. Palate showed apple, pear, honeydew and citrus notes, with toast, sea shell and toasted pecans. A very nice Champagne indeed! May or may not improve, but should at least keep here for 5-10 years. 95 points, may add a plus with some additional age. Have one more bottle to check out in a few years!

For years, I thought I didn't like Veuve Clicquot, but my two bottles of the '06 La Grande Dame were both outstanding. Baked apple, ginger, orange and grapefruit, a little creamy, nutty and honeyed. Much better as it warmed.

Lots of citrus, lemon, almond paste and a touch of licorice. Dusty mouthfeel and long finish. Of the high end house champagnes, I find the grande Dame to be the best bargain around. Have never had a bottle of dom that I thought was anywhere near as good. 93+

About 50/50 Chard/PN. Round and full of life, this wine hits all the notes for an aristocratic top-tier Champagne. At 15 years old, it shows no age with robust and creamy popcorn, citrus, and mineral. Great structure to last easily for another 15 years. Patience will be greatly rewarded with this one. 94 points. Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Oriole - Chicago IL): Ripe apple and pear aromas with some toasted nuts and faint toasted brioche. Similar flavors with good depth, even better length and balance. Seemed very Chardonnay driven to me tonight, but I know there is a lot of Pinot Noir here.

Light gold color. Drank a couple glasses over 3 hours. Well this has come into fine drinking form now. Expressive and complex, nicely toasty, brioche, floral essences, savory, dulce de leche, mushroom, tart green apple and more nuanced citrus, crustacean minerality and earthiness. Drank this next to more coiled and youthful '08. Fun comparison, the '08 needs some significant time yet.

Alittle disappointed with the showing. Medium nose with the usual notes of mineral, lemon, grapefruit. The box and label was elaborate and nice, more than the wine content itself.

Didn’t make it to this one on New Year’s Eve and wanted to fully enjoy bringing in 2021 in style. This showed its pedigree and maturity. Muted gold in color this presented nice bread dough notes and subtle flavors of citrus and stone. Not as much bead as I would have imagined. This definitely complimented the crab legs, shrimp, mussels and scallops we enjoyed as fare accompanying this vintage bottle.

Golden yellow hue with a slight brown tint and lots of tiny bubbles. Nose of yeasty bread, baked apples, orange marmalade, and wet cement. A delightful creamy mouthfeel with tastes of freshly baked sour dough bread, green apples, key limes, orange marmalade and a slight honey sweetness on the back end. Definitely a mature nose and taste on this one. A much more balanced and nuanced champagne than the standard orange label Veuve. A beautiful bottle of bubbles drinking wonderfully right now.

Comprised of 53% Pinot Noir and 47% Chardonnay, the 2006 Grande Dame is a light golden, vibrant sparkler with a creamy mousse and a enticing mix of lemon curd, minerals, baked apples, white flowers and toasted brioche. Medium-bodied and dense on the mid-palate, it goes on to finish with impressive length and notes of marzipan. This tête de cuvée is early in its drinking window. Drink now-2030.

This is drinking much more mature than past bottles I have had. I recall this was initially a bright wine with citrus qualities, it is now settling into deeper, richer flavor. VERY easy to drink and the bottle was empty way too soon.

I was under the mistaken impression I didn't like wines from this house, or perhaps they upped their game recently. This has the luxurious body of many '06 tête de cuvées. Baked apple, orange and grapefruit, a little creamy, nutty and honeyed. I enjoyed it much more than I had expected.

Straw gold in color, whiff of toast, this impeccably balanced cornucopia of quince, brioche, orange blossom and marzipan is always a favorite for a special occasion. Fresh, lively and elegant, will evolve over next 7-10 years, but for me this champagne is just too good not to drink now-2023.

This was a bit disappointing in terms of complexity and perhaps just expectations vs the NV Veuve. It was still quite yellow and citrus fruit forward. At this price and name I was expecting a bit more.
A medium intensity lemon color. Medium+ aromas of lemon pear croissiant. Nutmeg, anise, allspice, invokes a holiday thought. Bubbles are creamy and going quite strong. Medium to full bodied, with flavors if lemon, golden apples, applied pie filling, and baking spices. Medium to long finish. I'd recommend holding this another 3 years at least, if not 5 for some more development and complexity to form

Is fine. LGD has a profile and this matches it with brioche-y elements that border on sweet. Citrus tonic, a little malt. Nice crispness on the finish and very drink-me. Full effect is less than memorable though. Delight with ridiculous foods like Honey-Baked Ham.

Fabulous nose with stone fruits and a lactic tang, reminding me of peach yogurt. Palate strikes a good balance between steely acidity and dosage. Fairly generous texture in the mouth, but I wouldn’t call it big-boned.

Medium straw color with hints of gold. So much complexity on the nose with golden apple, lemons, marzipan, yeasty toasted brioche and some slightly nutty aromas. These aromas all transfer to the palate with a rich mouthfeel and long finish. Very good acidity balances the richness on the palate. Special wine. Plenty of life ahead of it.

Lunch at New Ubin. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Pop and poured - a shame really. Too tight initially. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Fine bubbles. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of reductive flint, white chalk minerality, toasty bread, marzipan, citrus lime. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium- alcohol (12.5%), medium+ body. Tight medium flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lime, sweet white peaches, brioche, toast, white chalk minerality. Lots of other honeyed white fruits longing to come out but alas didn't emerge fully. So much tensile action. Long focused acidic finish. Very good quality. Needs time, or air now. 53% Pinot Noir, 47% Chardonnay. Dosage 8 g/l. Disgorged January 2014.

What a contrast to the super-focused Vilmart. This was so rich, and had lots of oak toast and honey, with some more citrus and asian spice in the background. On the palate, good acidity, and loads of rich honeyed citrus and vanilla. A very nice contrast.

Rich and vinous nose, red apples, berries and cherries, lots of spicy depth, complex and impressive; the palate is full and rounded, seamless and honeyed, flavoursome and very long, but I sense a lack of energy, it feels completely mature already, with bitters to match, balanced by 8 gr/l of dosage. True to type, but an outstanding rather than great Grande Dame. Drink soon-ish.

First Dinner Party at the Wedge (Queensberry, Central Otago, New Zealand): Essence of Veuve - medium body, layers of flavour, brilliant bottle development. A great balance between freshness and yeasty/toasty complexity. This particular bottle might have slightly erred towards being a too developed, but it was clearly outstanding.

Sunday Funday (Chicago, IL): I think all the kitschy marketing of the regular yellow label has really decreased the value of the brand, as these high-end wines are just as good as any out there. Next to the 2008, it was obvious that this wasn't as complex, but there's still a lot like here -- a little creamy and sweet, but minerality, tart citrus, and good balance.

Toast, yeastiness, almond and floral notes on the nose. Nearly medium bodied (12% ABV) with very fine bubbles. Impressive mix of bright, white orchard fruits upfront (pear, apple) coupled with more tart notes (especially lemon) and acidity in the background. These components are tied together with a rounded creaminess that brings excellent balance to the wine overall. This felt very well integrated, with nearly seamless transitions and was very enjoyable in general. No one element stuck out as predominant as it felt like this wine was more than the sum of its parts as it sailed along. I would agree with many other reviewers who note that there doesn't seem to be significant additional upside potential. It's showing quite well at present and while it should be able to hold this level for several more years, there's no reason to wait based on how well all the elements in combination are showing now.

Birthday drinks (Indianapolis, IN): Awesome Champagne; drinking so well now with lots of rich citrus and red fruit augmented by doughy and toasty richness. Light golden color. Forward and clean on the nose, very floral, wow. Lively on the palate. May not be as detailed as ‘04 Krug tasted on previous EVA flight but this is almost as impressive. EVA really has great selections of Champagne. Rich and good complexity with light lemon on the finish. Both EVA and Veuve Cliquot are underrated for sure. I am rarely on EVA flight but the sautéed ginger lobster and the simple salad dish on this EVA flight are better than anything I have tasted on SIA premier classes, wow, just wow, totally unexpected.

Great Lady indeed! Blend of 53% Pinot and 47% Chardonnay. Fresh with mineral, smoke, and red fruit. You can pick out the heavy Pinot from the nose. Fresh and bright with green apple and lemon. Sorry this is no more than a 91 for me - which in my book means no need to really buy this again for this price and when there are so many other top cuvées which I think have the edge on this. Definite green apple and pear flavours and lovely acidity but I found this just too light and lacking the brioche or nuttiness I admire for long lees aged champagnes. Enjoyable none the less but not that special

Very good. Has many of the same qualities of high end champagne, including DP and Cristal, although my one criticism would be that it is a bitter thinner with less aftertaste than those monsters, but then again, this costs more than $100 less on most occasions.

In the long run this won't be as good as the '08 Grande Dame, but it was more enjoyable on this occasion. More subtle and airier while still impressive in scale, this is a lovely Champagne that clearly drinks like a tete de cuvee of a big house. Citrus and toast and a touch of caramel. I'm sure it will age fabulously.

Thought it was very pleasant and lived up to the expectation. Not a bottle I will remember forever, but one certainly worthy of a friend’s birthday. We served after being chilled for an hour in the fridge accompanied by plane crackers, Gouda cheese, and summer sausage. The forward flavor was a slight caramel which lasted briefly and replaced with a refreshing citrus-like taste. Small bubbles were consistent.

Pre-dinner bubbles. This seems to have put on some weight since we had it earlier in the year. Also surprising since it's got a touch more of the toast style going right now (as opposed to the green apple). The bubbles are perhaps what I like the most, just very soft and delicate. And there's just a slight touch of spice. It is still young, but a nice wine.

Much too you to even think of drinking yet in my opinion. Small and persistent mousse throughout. Very beautiful nose and classic LGD. But in the mouth it is just an infant still. Green apples, yeast and little caramel. Not much acidity. Short aftertaste.

Monthly Tasting Group: Interesting Whites (ABC) at Heirloom (Heirloom, St.Paul, MN): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour plus. A lot of marzipan and a little more toasty yeastiness on the nose, golden fruits, quince, mineral. The palate has stone fruits, yeast, moderate acid, light minerality. I like this, especially with the weight and balance, but again I am underwhelmed by what it should be. I just can't quite wrap myself around where this is going. I really have seen no significant evolution over the last several year. Sit on them and hope, or just drink them up. You make the call. 92+pts.

This was just outstanding. Licorice, buttered toast, honey, apple and a dusty minerality. Good acidity, long finish and fine mousse. Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/1/2018-3/3/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): Not sure this is totally fair - these wines young always taste a bit too 'easy' and almost basic in their initial years I think. Takes some time to put on a touch of weight and some of the more interesting flavors. It's green apple and decent bubbles and yet again doesn't quite live up to the interesting level of the Vilmart (which to be fair is a wine I'm quite keen on).

Very typical for Veuve Clicquot but should LGD not stand out more? Rather average, I would say. I have had some really good champagnes from Veuve Clicquot but neither the LGD 2004, nor the 2006 impressed.
Nicoletta's 40th Birthday weekend!; 1/18/2018-1/21/2018 (Megeve, France): Very solid wine worthy of the super cuvee status. Good ripe feel, well round lovely balance. Disgorged 06/2014. Popped and poured. Served in white wine glasses. This bottle was proof that Champagne is often served too cold. A very striking gold color in the glass. Initially, a bit reticent on the nose giving way to some oxidative notes. After about 45 minutes in the glass, coming up to temperature, this was absolutely signing. Chardonnay taking an unusual, more prominent role with lip smacking Bosc pear, lemon meringue but with some wild strawberries (Pinot Noir letting me know it's somewhere in there) and brioche. Lovely minerals. Loooooong finish...lasting for over a minute. A decadent Champagne. Drink now with some patient (and proper temperature) or hold. Should last well into the next decade.

This is a mouth-watering Champagne with a creamy mousse and a gorgeous mix of lemon curd, minerals, baked apples, white flowers and toasted brioche. A Wednesday Wine Lunch with Some Oomph (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Light and elegant, understated, but fairly seamless; yellow citrus fruit, slight toast. I enjoy this and it certainly is good, but I continue to be somewhat underwhelmed by what I would expect to be a more memorable bottle of Champagne. I have found other vintages more compelling. This is appreciated more for the simple elegance and overall balance. Maybe it is still the youthfulness and this will evolve into something greater. I hope so, having a few of these. I'm happy to drink them - I just have to ignore the price tag.

Named after the venerable Widow Clicquot herself, La Grande Dame Brut 2006 is a blend of 53% Chardonnay and 47% Pinot Noir. The nose is expressive—bioche dipped in honey, baked apple and a whisp of smoke hanging above richer aromas. The attack is deep and vinous, and there is a lovely creaminess at the center. It finishes nicely, with dried honey and chalk emerging when the bubbles have at last ceased. Tasted at Veuve Clicquot's visitor's center. 8 grams dosage | Sample

Opened at Anvil with Allred for Domino's birthday. Drank alongside the '98. This was just purchased and wanted to try it to see if another purchase was warranted. It is. Notes of apple and citrus with a lengthy finish.

Lots of tiny bubbles. I must say, compared to PH, persistence of said bubbles is not so much. That said, nose of brioche. Palate of apple ever a touch tart. Delightful, but for the price, I'll take PH every day and Sunday too.
Sun bright yellow. Very youthful, even at 10 years old. Citrus notes with yeasty bread and lively effervescence. Very active wine with nice complexity, well done. I can remember better vintages of this wine but this is great right now.

Muy joven. Servido excesivamente frío merecía haberse jarreado. Con tiempo y buscando "lo rico" aparecen notas elegantes a fruta blanca y en boca se muestra denso y efectivo. Hay que esperar.

Le Tour de Champagne Tasting (Hotel Intercontinental Amstel, Amsterdam, NL): A blend of 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay, 100% Grand Cru, domaine vineyards only. Just released. Light but intense colour; rich and meaty but fresh nose, fishy Pinot Noir, citrus and white flowers; rich and vinous palate, very typical for La Grande Dame, freshness and balance, good weight, noticeable bitters, brioche and lilies; very good length. Outstanding but not extraordinary.

A very nice Champagne indeed! May or may not improve, but should at least keep here for 5-10 years. 95 points, may add a plus with some additional age.

A delightful creamy mouthfeel with tastes of freshly baked sour dough bread, green apples, key limes, orange marmalade and a slight honey sweetness on the back end.

True to type, but an outstanding rather than great Grande Dame. Drink soon-ish.

After having two bottles of the grande dame that were extremely disappointing, 02 or 04 can't remember,
this one hit it out of the park. Nothing not to like except the nose which could have been a little better. Would buy again. 95--96

Medium-bodied, vibrant and dense on the mid-palate, it goes on to finish very long. Give this a tête de cuvée some cellar time. As before, this particular tasting constituted infanticide.
