At an odd spot when first opened with roaring acidity dominating the wine. Felt like the wine needed time to settle down.
After a day of air, the acidity softens to integrate with the dark, red fruits. The bouquet opens up to dark fruits and spice. Smoky herbal undertones, lavender, and a long dark cherry finish bring the wine to a satisfying end.
Certainly could use more time in cellar, but tasting great now with some air.

Distinct mountain fruit coupled with lovely spice notes creates a wonderful Zinfandel that is loaded with excitement. The acidity has softened and this wine is firing on all cylinders. Good juice.

Fantastic. Dense dark fruits, brambly, rustic, charcoal - everything an old vine zinfandel should be, from a legendary vineyard site. Something about it feels more italian than californian to me. Pair it with some hard cheeses. One of the best offerings from Bedrock in my opinion.

PnP and drunk over 2 days. I was troubled by the disparate reports, but thought the bottle was just fine. With age Zins get a claret aspect and this was not an exception. The nose was muted but by the second day was perfumed with dark fruit, spice. The fruit was fading but the tannins resolved with enough freshness for balance and a medium finish. I think I will drink these a few years earlier though, although if I had another bottle , I would like to see where it is in a few more years.

Mountain fruit, garrigue, spring flowers, minerality and lingering acidity come together nicely. This is a high powered Zinfandel built for the cellar. The acidity is the backbone of this wine that will allow it to have a long life ahead. It wouldn’t surprise me if this isn’t wonderful in 2030. I will hold one to see if it is. Good juice.

Dark mountain fruit comes to life after a three hour decant. Potpourri accents, underbrush and well integrated oak make this a pleasing Zinfandel based wine. Nice balance here.

This was ready to go from the outset and is seriously impressive. Friends didn't want to believe it was zin. Tannins have integrated nicely, the alcohol is hidden and the acid added a brightness that begged for another sip. Everything is seamless right now and just a joy to drink.

Bramble on the nose raspberry and blackberry , flavors are similar with blackberry really coming through on the finish, some vanilla, low acid, low tannins, long finish, thus us very nice and in a great drinking window.

A serious zin from one of the best zin vineyards in California. Drinking great but has a long life ahead of it. Just wish I had more than the one bottle I have left. A beautiful wine.
Linear cherry on the nose and palate. A little acidic, but balanced by moderate extraction and alcohol. Little change across several hours, which should make for a long life.

Not what I had expected. Assorted red, black, and blue berries on the nose, with a healthy dose of...coffee. More of the same on the palate with hints of Asian spices. Medium body, but fairly rich and - dare I say it? - almost elegant. Good finish, great balance (for the time being at least), and - best of all - not a fruitbomb, and not noticeably hot, raisiny, or port-like. Either at its peak or approaching its peak.

Cherry and raspberry on a light nose. Pepper comes in on the palate as well, long finish with a little more tanins than I like on a zin. Still enjoyable enough.

Decanted for a couple of hours; not much sediment as others have noted; gently perfumed nose of brambly red fruit, Asian spice, coffee, light alcohol; on the palate, warm red fruit cobbler, raspberry jam, typical Zin-bramble initially, then some tart cherry and a really cool Anise on the mid-to-back end; tannins have mellowed considerable and this is a very smooth drinker; still a little acid on the back end to keep this round and balanced.
This was really enjoyable to drink. A little bit of an edge early on due to alcohol heat (it's only 14.5% for a Zin) but that was overcome with a little chill. What was really good was the coffee on the nose and this Anise note on the back end of every sip; something I haven't noticed in this wine before. Wonderful vineyard + producer combo.

Hedonistic pleasure in a glass! Awesome combination of dark berry fruit, slight sweetness, noticeable medium to fine-grained integrated tannins, and just the right amount of acid. Slightly hot alcohol suits this very well. Perfect age now. Over time it will obviously evolve but perhaps it's better now? Doesn't have any of the objectionable aspects of many other decent zins. Purple in color. 14.5% ABV. Super nose of brambly black fruits, baking spices, flowers and earth. Medium to full body with mouth watering acidity. Juicy, spicy, Claret style Zinfandel. Black cherry, raspberry, blood orange and pepper on the palate. The finish is tremendous. Stunning Zinfandel from an iconic vineyard that is exceedingly approachable already. Nose is zinfandel alright (boysenberry, blue fruits), but with the fruit more in the background and more savory, even meaty notes more prominent. More fruit forward on the palate, with a nice balance between the fruity & savory flavors. Dense and mouth-coating, with plenty of nicely ripe tannins and good over-all balance. A fantastic, very pure, expression of zin. Lots of blackberry, blueberry fruits and iron and graphite minerality. There is subtle charcoal and pepper and meat juices to round out the profile. There's even a hint of mint (?) to add some interest to the nose. To me, this wine tasted more like a modern Tuscan wine, than California, and that's not a bad thing. I actually would have scored this higher, but there was a little bit of heat that I found distracting. It was still delicious nonetheless.

The 2010 Bedrock Monte Rosso got me started on these, but ever since, I don’t think they have ever matched that vintage. The ‘10’s were wild and earthy and intriguing. This one, not so much. There are other Bedrock Zins that capture my attention more these days and maybe that’s a good thing since we won’t be able to buy any more Monte Rosso’s in the future. The flavors just are so reticent, watered down. Bury these deep in the cellar for maybe 3-5 more years.

PNP and consumed over three hours. Noticed right away that tannins have softened and mellowed since our last bottle about 18 months ago. It's in a much better place now. Dark color for a Zin. Tastes of herbs, smoke, black cherry, pepper, mineral, and some floral notes. The dark berry flavors dominate. The pro reviews put this in 93-95 range; hard to argue with that. Well made.

Served on the backside of a Carlisle '13 Papera. This one was better, but almost too dense, too concentrated. Very dark, savory, tannic. I love Monte Rosso, but whoa, almost seems too big. Maybe time helps. Day 2 update. Much more like the Monte Rosso I have come to know. Deep, rich and layered. Served on the warmer side of cool. That seemed to be the sweet spot for flavor. Give these a very long decant or cellar for several more years. Revisit in 2019.

From memory at Barndiva in Healdsburg last night, double decanted overnight, very dark ruby, blue & black fruit with some pepper, mod. tannins, long finish; delicious & went very well with duck confit, but still young (last taste was the best), hold for a couple of years

Dark fruit. More black than red. More tannic than I expected. Not as bright as some zins, but that's OK. The acid is there, it's just buried under a dark layer. Leather. Spicebox. Oak. Young. Better when I can get it over the back of my tongue. Much better. Another great wine from Morgan that is nothing if not interesting.
Bedrock Heritage dinner (Edwin's/Our Backyard by the Fire): Ruby/purple in color. The nose has black raspberries and blueberries. Also some spice. Medium tannins. On the palate, black raspberries with some anise especially on the finish. very nice. A bit bigger than the other wines tonight. Another year or two should put it in prime time.
From vines planted in 1886. This showed leather, blackberry, and dark dried fruit with a long and somewhat simplish finish. This is a wine which needs some time... at least some air time after opening.
Note that we preferred the 2013 Monte Rosso tasted in a blind tasting, although the difference may have been more air time and not vintage differences.

Short 30 minute decant. This is really good. It's also too young. Super fine tannins with a bit more traction than desired - unless it's paired with juicy ribeye. Nice blend of dark and red fruit with a zip mineral edge. When this ages and mellows, it's going to be fantastic.

Bedrock -- Cultural Warriors and Advocates (Sonoma): Like the 2014 Carlisle Monte Rosso, this is best described as a very mineral driven wine at this early stage of development, not yet partaking of Zinfandel sensuality. It impresses more with power than zappiness. But it is no black fruited brooding monster either. More of a red fruited wine, with notes of aged meat before it hits the grill, and some Cabernet aromas of cassis and eucalyptus.
Needs time. 90-93.

Napa / Sonoma Day Trip: Tasted in Bedrock vineyard with Morgan, PnP.
Me - 90, Wife - 89.

Needs time. 90-93.

Clear, deep garnet color. Youthful powerful aromatic nose. Dry, full body with smooth acidity and soft medium tannins. Good balance, powerful/flavorful long finish.
