Elegant, complex, and well balanced wine. Dark fruit, leather, coffee, vanilla, and herbal notes. Acidity, alcohol, and fine grained tannins all in harmony. Very nice wine. Wish I had more.

Beautiful wine in its young maturity stage. A beautiful combination of dark berries, licorice, some smoke and vanilla, good acidity and round tannin. Was a great and full bodied pleasure over two days. Very nice to drink now. Will definitely drink lovely over the next 3 – 7 years, but no reason to wait much longer.

Opened and poured a glass about two hours prior to consumption. Opaque and dense color with no bricking. Aromatically pleasing with a rich red currant, damp earth and brush, and orange rind that are primary with more subtle incense, leather, and dried herbs. On the palate the attack presents cashmere tannins with tart red currant and orange peel being supported by good acidic lift. In the mid-palate this pivots to a pasty tart blackberry with a deft touch of iron and tobacco leaf. The finish was a little hollow with a trace of heat that shaved the overall pleasure ever so slightly.
Overall a quality wine with a well rounded appeal that can be consumed now through 2030+.
Day 2 - Remains well rounded where the cashmere tannins balance the sweet fruit. It retains a vibrancy that keeps this fresh and rich.

This is drinking really well, a juicy and large wine that now has some interesting tertiary notes creeping in. It doesn’t have much of a sense of place, and blind I would pick it as a decent mid range Napa Cab (which would be $10-20 more expensive).
Primary flavors are concentrated and juicy black fruits with prominent American oak (vanilla etc). Some chocolate, some leather. Decent acid and length. Pairs well with food.

Decanted for 1 hour. Purple in the glass. Cedar, blackberry, vanilla (not over the top vs. my last tasting) and black licorice. Medium+ body, medium acidity/tannins and very long finish. Has improved since my last tasting as the oak has integrated and doesn't stand out - hard to believe this is a 15% alcohol level wine as the structure compensates for the fruit. Flavor profile on palate is consistent with the nose ex. vanilla and there is a nice blueberry note as well. 92-93+ range.

Som vanligt levererar Aalto, även när vi kliver ner från PS nivån. Kraft, frukt och ganska avrundade tanniner trots att det inte direkt är någon ålder på vinet. Definitivt en av mina favoritproducenter i Ribera

Bridges old world and new world. Beautiful fruit (ripe red raspberries), baking spices and herbs. I decanted this, but I’m not sure it changed much. Drinking well now but I suspect it could still age for a couple more years. I paid only $25. A clear bargain.

Must say that after aeration and one hour decant this was drinking beautifully vs. my comment 6 months ago that said the wine was tight and needed 2-3 more years of aging. Full bodied and rich in a more new world style but delicious.

A private lunch (Restaurant Sillyfox, Veghel, NL): Sweet and ripe Tempranillo with gently toasted American oak, firm but beautifully polished tannins, carries its whopping 15% ABV without too much effort, harmonious and rounded, balanced by a lovely mineral freshness, very good resonance and length. Modern style but well judged.

89 for now. As usual opened too young, in my opinion, as this wine develops very well in bottle for a minimum of 10 years. But still a pleaseruable thing with a dense structure, sweet spices, a hint of lavender( I usually detect in wines from the Languedoc or Provence.) Dark fruits and some grippy tannins round it up.

Popped and poured. Medium or maybe medium plus intensity with ripe raspberry fruit, a deep floral bouquet and a minty core. Pleasantly juicy on the palate, but also rather simple and acidic. Easily enjoyable without a decant in my view given hardly noticable evolution in the glass (kept one for 2h or so). Decent power and finish, but slightly astringent and overall a tad over-extracted for my liking. Maybe 2-3yrs of additional bottle age would help? Preferred the 2015 which I had on the same occasion and didn't have the over-extraction traits and was super easy to drink already.

Purple color. Vanilla (too much on night 1 but this went away on night 2/3 and will integrate over time I predict), cedar, blackberry and black cherry on nose. On palate, blackberry, blueberry, black licorice with medium+ body, medium acidity, integrated tannins and a long finish. 91+ today with room for 2+ points with some age.

Deep coloured; nice fruit here, holds the attention with subtle complexity. Really quite gorgeous; great fruit on the front palate - nicely defined and fresh, backed up by oak spice. Delicious. Structure and tannins show themselves with time. Excellent - as delicious as I remember it.

Decanted for an hour. Wine is still a baby. I should have known better. Primary red fruit, lacking some balance with minimal oak influences. This wine needs to come together and it will take minimum of 4 years when this will be a more complexed Aalto as I like them. For instance the 2004 is great nowadays.

PnP. Purple with thin clear/pink rim. Medium legs. Nose provides a burst of dark fruits, particularly blackberries and black cherries, with bramble, white pepper, and some pencil shaving/graphite character similar to cabernet. On the palate has predominantly dark fruits with some spice on the finish. Great mouthfeel and well-balanced with well-integrated tannins. Medium plus body and finish.

Finally found a decent wine store in the centre of Madrid and specifically was looking for AAlto. Very rich, ripe (15%) and plenty of sweet fruits. Fruit is dominating at this early age and I can't see much by way of structure to balance out as the wine ages. And of course much too young to be drinking as a 3yr old. The core of fruit is very good and progressively gets darker and more spicey. Really does need much more cellaring time to get the best out of it. (Los Rosales 27e)

Had this for dinner the first night during dinner on our terrace at a quiet Finca in Mallorca. Served fairly chilled, which is the right choice as it keeps the 15 degrees alcohol in check. Very dark visually, this full throttle Ribeira showed lovely from first sip to last (served pnp). Strong fruit pushing the oak in the background, great pairing with the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce. Nice Ribeira, probably just a tiny notch behind Alion.

An adorable effort from star producer Bodegas Aalto. The 2014 vintage reveals a rather impressive attack of fruit and secondary tones of vanilla kernels, morellos and blueberries. The palate adds to this first powerful impression but does with elegance and finesse. Certainly a full-bodied effort, skilful winemaking always adds that little extra elegance no matter how much power there is. The balance as well as the acidity are present and certainly very eloquent, perhaps with the aciditiy a bit more forward and expressive. The length on the finish lasts about 45 seconds or more. This is a lovely wine and certainly an effort to keep in the cellar for a number of years.

This opaque crimson wine is comprised of 100% Tempranillo, sourced from vines averaging greater than 40 years of age. It is a full-bodied offering, packed with black and red fruit, accented with minerals, licorice and baking spices. With fresh acidity, well-integrated oak and big sweet tannins, it is a joy to drink. Make certain that the wine is served at the appropriate temperature of 60-65°F (in order to keep the 15% alcohol in check). Dense in the middle and long on the back end, this quality offering should provide pleasure for an additional decade or more. Drink now-2027.

Very good. As other TNs suggest, a very fruit-driven wine, but not at all oversweet; really quite tart and structured. Blackcurrant and spice. Long. A rather different flavor profile from most tempranillos.
It's a young wine at present and will surely benefit from 5 to 10 years of ageing.

Drank over 2 nights - better on night 2. On PNP into decanter, dark purple color and very fruit dominant (blueberry, blackberry, black cherry) nose with similar flavor profile. This always feels like a cooler site Ribera del Duero. Freshness in the black and blue fruit, with forest floors and some smoke. The new oak is there but it does not detract from the quality of the fruit. Always a pleasure to drink.

This was quite a reticent and young Aalto compared to the more open and plusher 2013. Had aromas of blueberries, plums, tobacco, red cherries, cloves and mint. Its medium bodied, linear quite plush but unready palate has nice developing layers of fruits, oak and acidity. Ends longish and refined. Needs 5-10 years laying down to develop further. Promising.

Retailer tasting; just short notes. (@ AB): Beautiful dark and red forest fruits, beautiful and well dosed oak. Beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness. In this stage very elegant, but cellaring this until 2025+ will be rewarding. I have a few, so there will be follow ups. 91++ for today.
Dejlig vin, der skal blive i kælderen nogle år endnu. Luftet i 3 timer.

Dark purple. The nose offers intense fruit aromas with wood in the background. The palate is broad, structured and elegant as befits such exceptional phenolic maturity. The typical flavours of the Tempranillo are all present - liquorice, black fruits and roasted coffee, alongside spices and fresh tobacco - provided by an impeccable wood ageing.

Som vanligt levererar Aalto, även när vi kliver ner från PS nivån. Kraft, frukt och ganska avrundade tanniner trots att det inte direkt är någon ålder på vinet. Definitivt en av mina favoritproducenter i Ribera

Still young. Oak and vanilla mixed with the scent of black fruits. Fine grained tannins, acidic kick at the end balancing out the fruit. Oak well integrated. Long aftertaste. This keeps being a reliable performer. Love it. 93+

Well made wine but definitely needs 3+ years of aging. Too young to drink even with aeration and significant decant. Visit again in 2021+

Drank over 3 nights - better on night 2 and best on 3 - don't waste your money and PNP now.

Really done in a modern style. Fruit is ripe black fruit, and a heavy dose of oak. Easy sell for a Napa Cab drinker.

Powerful and concentrated wine with dark berries, licorice and a good dose of oak. Good acidity. Although already a pleasure, the wine is still too young. (Even after 2 days open at room temperature.) 91+ for today.

Cork has some minor seepage. Color was very dark. Aromas of intense dark fruits engulfed in new oak. Muscular wine with solid tannins and plenty of power. Not sure if it was the best bottle condition so I'll leave at that.

Full body but good acidity and tannic structure (sweet tannins) to handle the fruit - this wine is not flabby. Decant for 2+ hours if opening now.

Promising.
