  • The nose was still not giving much after 3 hours. The palate though was creamy black cherry, dried mushrooms, spices and rock. The finish was not too tannic.

Still developing but the nose needs to put on a bit of weight.

  • Decanted for 2 hours before drinking. I am disappointed too often by Italian wines. Another reviewer of this wine mentioned "dusty sandy tannins" and those words seemed to accurately describe what I experienced. I have one bottle left of the 2014 and multiple bottles of the 2015. Hopefully I will find some consistency in my Italian searches.

  • Light and fine boned, approachable already although it’s not developed the aromatic complexity of a mature wine yet. Good balance, and great at the table now, on its own there’s some fine tannins at the finish which are a little drying

  • Always a terrific bottle, one of the most consistent vintages for PdB this past decade. Beautiful violet, saucisson, medicinal herbs, dark cherry fruit. As others have noted, this doesn't knock your socks off, but it does have quite intense acidity and is elevated by food.

  • After a hour, lovely resolved nose, still some fruits left. Good acidity, tannins starting to be softer but still present. Not a flashy wine, but in my book a very good wine drinking well with food and on its own. Will it be the best showing wine in a tasting, probably not, but that's not why I bought this wine. I will drink the rest over the coming years

  • Needed 2hrs of decant to get approachable. Not flashy, but consistent. Fruit is focused, tannins sort of friendly and drinkability at highest level. Had it with a ribeye and truffle salami, it just disappears with food, so savoury, but its support act, if you know what i mean...

  • A year since opening my last bottle. Not decanted. Definitely showed as more elegant after two hours of air. Nose is restrained. Lots of tar, with a beautiful streak of cherry poking out. Still some hard tannins but they’re fine-grained and don’t have that frequent Produttori grittiness. Looking forward to where this is headed.

  • Consistently lovely over the years. A great value.

  • Prototypical perfume! Just gorgeous!

Gripping, gritty, and expansive...somewhat sneakily so. Lighter attack, broad and generous middle, tannic back, considerable finish. The wine strengthens from front to back...a hallmark of quality. A wine of the earth...in all the best ways.

Recommend holding bottles for at least three to five years. Likely to peak after 2035. Appealing! Satisfying! 92-93.

  • Hasn't moved from last year, except that I found this to be pretty much ready to drink almost straight from the bottle. Cherries, plums, leather, liquorice, high dusty sandy tannins, and super high and bright acidity, which I absolutely love. I do doubt whether this has the intensity of fruit to go the distance, so if you have multiple I would definitely dip my toes in the water.

  • Slow'ox for 1 hour. Dark brick red. Lots of fruit. Cherries. Spice. Medium to long finish.

  • Slow oxed for 6 hours then into a decanter for another 4. Nice translucent crimson. The nose is showing dusty cherries, honey, baking spices, fresh cut hay and orange rind. Still a bit tart on entry, crunchy cranberries, a blast of tannins that sort overwhelm the balance of the palate. A bit of bitter orange on the finish. Not what I expected. Maybe in an awkward phase but not what I know or expect from a Nebbiolo. Hopefully will gain depth and fullness as it sits in my glass. Disappointing.

  • Fruit discret au départ qui s’épanouit ensuite, arôme de sous-bois, vivacité et acidité qui suivent la structure tannique: quel produit bien fait, même si un peu austère!

  • Slow oxed for 6 hours. This had an attractive nose with roses and raspberry liqueur. The palate is medium to light without a lot of fruit weight. The acidity is pretty bright here, and the tannins are prominent and somewhat drying still. There's a distinctive note of gentian/bitters emerges on the finish. Maybe this would have fleshed out with a decent, but on this night the structure dominated.

  • I’ve been drinking off a list for the last few years but haven’t tried a bottle from my cellar for 4-5 years. All day slowox and the into a decanter. This is just in a great spot nose full of deep red fruits, roses, a bit of tar, lavender and baking spices. Tannins have receded to where the fruit can really shine thru. Great spot.

  • A classic Nebbiolo showing as well as ever. It’ll keep but very enjoyable now.

  • Popped and poured. This is very nice, especially at its relatively tender age. Rusty red, with more rust at the edge. I'm always surprise how favorably the "cheap" bottling compares with the same producer's much more expensive wines. This is no exception. Nose is rich, with tobacco, red fruit and game. Ripe, tangy, piquant, but bone dry, dusty fruit flavors in the mouth. What a nice wine, showing so well with only a bit of air needed to bring it all out. Very nice. 4-12-17-8: 91/100. Adding a small edit here: My advice to folks who want to build a good Nebbiolo cellar but not spend a fortune doing so: Buy this wine every vintage. It is remarkably reliable, good to great in almost every vintage, and relative to others, sells for a song. Stock up on this and you will be rewarded, both because the price will only increase over time and because the wine is of such high quality.

  • First sip of the 2014 vintage. Slow'ox for 1 1/2 hour. Dark brick red. Lots of fruit. Cherries. Spice. Medium to long finish. This will improve with more bottle time. Needs air.

  • This was still wound tight upon opening. Much improved after a couple of days. These wines have such a long life ahead. Once it opened up, there was pretty raspberry and cherry with a floral nose. I need to hold my last bottle of this for several more years.

  • Definitely a tale of 2 bottles. First was brown ans oxidized despite no flaws to the cork. Second had a vibrant ruby color and was appropriate—but had a strong reductive character that overwhelmed the nose and palate. With a quick decant this improved but did not completely resolve. Some nice red fruit buried in the flint and matchstick notes. Fine tannins. While not a flawed bottle was rather disappointing. Will update if better on night 2.
On jight 2 this was typical, with floral red fruits but still a little watery on the mid palate and lacking concentration like my last bottle a couple years ago.

  • Brown and prematurely oxidized. Perfect cork.

  • Double decanted magnum served with homemade meatballs and sauce. This really seems ready to go. Lots of classic red fruits on the nose - think wild strawberry and sour cherry - which are echoed on the palate and joined by hints of dried thyme and an underpinning of bright acidity. The tannins are still present, adding structure and firming up the mouthfeel on the back end without becoming drying. No hurry on this, at least in magnum, and I’d expect it to evolve nicely through 2030. One taster, who recently had the 2012 from magnum, found the 2014 much more approachable than that wine at this point.

  • Pop and pour. Lovely food wine. Strawberry. soft herbs, tar. Lovely and dark on the palate, but very elegant on the mid. Some grainy tannin on the finish.

  • Coming along nicely. Tannins still have some grip but it’s nicely integrated. Prominent black tar and sour cherry. Good acid propels it. Anticipate a long drinking window. Not decanted; minimal sediment. Let’s see if that changes.

  • Ah wow. Thats really entering the zone. Can last too! Plenty fruit, acid and tannin left. Ive got 1 more, hold that one.

  • This is maturing a lot faster than I have anticipated. No decant needed as this is drinking great right now. Certainly in the beginning stages of maturity. For my taste, it’s in a sweet spot.

  • I enjoyed this over three days. It was a little tight on the first day with red fruits and a little spice. On the second and third days, much more open, with the fruit becoming turning more to cherry, with a little more darker tone to it. It seemed a little richer. Unfortunately, I am getting down to my last couple bottles and I’ll have to figure out which vintage to move onto next.

  • Typical Nebbiolo! Cherries, plums, leather, liquorice, high dusty sandy tannins, and super high and bright acidity, which I absolutely love. Recommend to open at least 4 hours before drinking. I do doubt whether this has the intensity of fruit to go the distance.

  • Open 2014 and had a good cork though color was not clear and nose was funky. Thought it might just be me so opened a 2013 via corvin; color and nose were fine. Both stored in same cellar. So tossed 2014 ….. bad bottle

  • A little bit lighter in texture than other vintages but has a little longer finish.Red fruit-cherry- with some licorice on mid palate and finish. Still in the early part of it's drinking interval.

  • Just phenomenal- bottle age is like alchemy with Nebbiolo. I enjoy Nebbiolo at all stages but when we popped this the tannins were integrated fully- roses and tar, violets and brick dust on the nose, silk on the palate like a 20 year old Barolo Canubbi, balsam and more tar to that long finish. Heavenly. Best bottle of the year so far- and so well-priced (think we bought at the kiosk in Barbaresco for around 25 Euro a bottle).
At the two hour mark the tannins decided to reassert themselves and the wine did that phoenix/ Lazarus thing of returning to youth once fully reacquainted with oxygen. At least a decade left in the tank I reckon. Sadly only one left so I’ll never know. Viva Produttori del Barbaresco!

  • Strong fruity Barbaresco, great teaser, easy drinker but detoriates rapidly

  • After getting my palate pummeled by a 2013 Produttori Riserva last night I decided to switch it up to the regular Barbaresco from a less “aggressive” vintage. This is so much more inviting, even if it isn’t completely ready. The structural elements lean more towards acid rather than rough tannins, with properly balancing red fruit, as well as deep meaty tones and soaring florals. It’s pretty much classic, just not a monument, and that is totally OK.

  • This is starting to hit its drinking window, though still needs a few hours of air as its nervy and tannic on the open. Dark, dusty cherry, red licorice, mineral, tobacco, violets. Starting to show a bit of saucisson and leather. Has some volatility, a bit of solvent character and a shorter finish at present. Strong vintage for this but still better with a bit more time.

  • As opposed to the '15 this is drinking well now. The finish is a bit clipped but the overall balance is ok. I would guess it is a good idea to drink these before 2025 - 2027.

  • Pale ruby with garnet hues. Nose has medium- intensity with rose petals, red fruit (cherry) and well-developed tertiary aroma of leather, polish, tar, chocolate. The palate is juicy and fruity, medium+ body with high acidity and tannins and a shortish finish. Perhaps still a tad too young, it is drinking well already but needs one to two hours of decanting. Overall, a very good wine with potential to improve over the next several years (89+).

  • Last bottle of this excellent wine. Medium body, bright cherry color with brick rims. Intense aroma of red fruits, flowers, truffles, tar and tobacco leaves. Dominant strawberry, raspberry and frozen cranberry palate following by silky and rounding but juicy, lingering finish. Well developed, rich and complex but easy drinking and balanced, vital acidity and muscular but already integrated tannins. Food friendly, well pairing beef risotto. Serve 18ºC - 20ºC. Open one hour ahead. Drink now and next decade.

  • No detailed notes other than to say this this is drinking beautifully. If you're sitting on a number of bottles, make sure to check in on the 2014 now to witness a moment of early maturity that is breathtaking. It's rich with dark red fruits, plums, leather and dusty rose. The tannins are present yet sweet and rounded all under an air of balsam herbs. Really fantastic stuff and with years of development in-store for us all.

  • I always struggle picking a Nebbiolo from our cellar. I always think they are too young, will need a longer decant than I am able to give it at the moment, etc., etc. It came down to this and the 15 Roagna Langhe Rosso as it was going to be a pop and pour with leftover pasta and meatballs.

This one, while young, is delicious. Elegant, yet structured. Lots of slightly tart cherry, and red fruit. Some hints of mint at times. We both enjoyed it.

  • clear, dark violet. nose is a touch muted but let it come up in temp from the cellar, swirl it and you get pretty tart red fruit, cranberry, cherry, strawberry, wet leaves, something floral… palate is a touch thin but it’s bright and juicy, more red berry fruit and a slight but attractive salinity. good acidity and finishes with notable tannic grip and a lingering mineral note. lots of stuffing here and some upside yet. early in the window but could hold for another year or three.

  • Well this was lovely. Tempted by some recent reviews and a desire for Nebbiolo fix, opened and decanted for one hour. Drank before, with, and after dinner and it opened up throughout the evening. As others note, great texture on palate, tannin and acidity provided definition entirely complementary to the fruit, mineral, light herb and floral notes. Deep red and black fruit, black cherry, a bit concentrated, moderate rich, crisp and a tad crunchy & juicy mainly from nice acidity. Hit the spot. Served with buttermilk brined roasted chicken, homemade fettuccine/parsley pesto.

  • While young, this only needed an hour to open up. Smells great. Very aromatic with red fruits, faint mint, mineral, floral notes. Love the nose. This is way more open and expressive than somewhat recent 2012 and 2015 bottles opened a few months ago.

Flavors are consistent with the nose. Elegant, with less tannin than some of the shoulder vintages. A pretty wine, and I would add more bottles if I could find them. Ann liked it, too.

  • Was expecting some youthful roughness around the edges but surprisingly ready to go. Very pretty aromatics of dried cherries, sage, rosemary, roses and tar on the nose. A hair lighter and softer than other vintages of PdB I've had, but the result is a wonderfully lifted and fresh wine in any case. Really wish I'd bought more so I could enjoy these while my 2015s and 2016s are maturing in the cellar.

  • I am blown away by how good this is. I don’t remember this being so perfectly balanced the last time I had it. Color is garnet with a hint of lightening at the rim. The nose shows dark cherry, leather, spice, and earth. On the palate, spiced cherry and earth meets a nice frame of acidity, and still present tannin. The tannins are already nicely robed, though and not obtrusive. Really excellent, and food-friendly. Ready now, should keep another 5 years easily.

  • Produttori Del Barbaresco Barbaresco 2014
On the nose, this was pretty aromatic, with licorice, some meaty notes, earth, wet soil, blue cheese, blue flowers, umami, blueberries, dark chocolate, even some floral notes.
On the palate, already well integrated, with dark black cherries, licorice, herbs, sweet clove, hints of cola, even some blue cheese umami, tannins are already integrated, dark chocolate, grippy tannins, giving way to dark chocolate. It’s already lovely and complex, elegant and silky. 93-94/100

  • The same bottle accessed from Coravin in March. Tasted over two days.

A whole lot of wine for the price point, and one that air served very well. Indeed, upon pulling the cork, and for a few hours thereafter, it remained quite reticent. Only the last few sips on the first day showed 'next level' promise. Even still, had it a 92 points, which by any measurable standard represents high QPR.

This opened quite aromatically on the second day, to a typical bouquet of orange marmalade, rose petals, rose hip, hibiscus, raspberry leaf tea, and acerola. Damn! Intriguing combination of austerity and power, which bodes well for aging for at least another seven to ten years. Lots of grip (tannin) and delightfully juicy (acid). If I can keep my grubby paws off the last bottle for three to five years, I will be proud of myself. Very, very nice juice...and improvement seems possible.

P.S. At the time of this note, the national online average cost of this bottle is just $45...and it can be had for as little as $39. Get some!!!

  • Coravin Pour. Tasted alongside the same producer's and vintage Rio Sordo.

The wine had little time to breathe. Austere and reticent. Lean, high-pitched, and red-fruited, including cranberry and acerola. Also showing raspberry leaf tea, rooibos, and rose hip essences. Serious acid, no less than medium plus, and powdery, somewhat steely tannins throughout. A friend, who is an experienced sommelier and spent more time with the wine, described it as 'glorious'. Looking forward to the next experience with this bottle. 92-93.

Classical Nebbiolo palate of strawberry, caught first frost cranberry following by tar notes and long spicy but juicy finish. • A traditionalist Barbaresco, fermented in stainless steel tanks and macerated with the skins for 25-30 days. This bottle is from Lot 18.164, ie. the wine is bottled in mid-June 2018, after well over 3,5 years of aging in large botti casks. 14% alcohol. Decanted for 1½ hours. Tasted in Produttori del Barbaresco 2016-1970 vertical.

Youthful, translucent ruby red color that is slightly darker than the vintages 2015 and 2016 tasted alongside. I guess this might have something to do with Nebbiolo producing more anthocyanins in cooler temperatures? The nose is slightly restrained but also very fragrant and seductive with classic aromas of licorice root, brambly raspberries, some sour cherry, light mineral notes of stone dust, a little bit of truffle, a hint of sunny dark plums and a subtly funky touch of Brie rind. The wine is clean, fresh and light-to-medium-bodied with dry, very focused and pretty high-strung flavors of sour cherries, licorice root, some truffle oil, a little bit of crunchy cranberry, light tart notes of lingonberries, a hint of gravelly minerality and a touch of sweeter dark plum. The overall feel is not particularly ripe, but it definitely isn't underripe in any way, coming across very balanced - albeit quite tightly-knit - with its bright, high acidity and assertive, grippy tannins. The finish is fresh, crunchy and rather noticeably tannic with intense, dry flavors of brambly raspberries, sour cherry bitterness, some crunchy cranberries, a little bit of tart lingonberry, light bloody notes of rare meat and a hint of licorice root.

A beautiful, impressive and very high-strung vintage of Produttori that doesn't show that much weight or ripe fruit, letting the very fresh and focused fruit and quite assertive yet not dominant tannins take the lead. The overall feel is still very tightly-wound and compared to the 2016 vintage that was drunk alongside, this is not nearly as accessible as 2016 is now. The wine is very lovely in so many ways, but it is now all about future potential, not immediate pleasure. This is a fresh and delicate vintage that is going to need much more time to open up than one would expect from such a cool vintage. Most likely the wine will enter its drinking window within the next decade, but in all likelihood it will take a few decades more before the wine is at its peak. Terrific now, but expect the score to go up with age. Outstanding value at 26,01€.

  • Superb, young. Really tight on PnP, but not unavailable or troubled with hard lines. After 45 minutes of air, the nose is all about soil and a mixture of red/black licorice. There's a white floral, cherry and rose component that emerges by the second hour. While the medium-bodied palate is excellent as a partner to food, it's clear this is still in a young, tender state; I'm thinking at least 3-4 more years before it 'may' begin to transcend the primary and signal a transition to a more secondary posture. I'm in love with this wine, and I'm looking forward to drinking it in 8-10 years when I think the excitement factor will be dialed in to '10'. An ager. 14,0% abv. highly recommended+

  • Pale ruby with more than a touch of brick. Fairly mature looking, in fact.
Nose > Aromatic fresh red & wild cherry, cherry bark, sumac, menthol, strawberry, blackberry,
rose petal & a squeeze of orange.
Palate > Light-ish, but full flavored. Wild & red cherry, strawberry & spicy cherry bark.
Underpinned with touch of sumac, citrus, mint, menthol & rhubarb.

  • Well made but less concentrated than other recent years. Cherry fruit, hints of mint/eucalyptus. Very powerful tannins and acidity—but there’s sensual fruit there, it just likes to hide in the structure. Needs some time to meld together. Best to hold.

  • Well balanced, surprisingly dark, excellent fruit, lovely mouthfeel and a medium length clean finish. A very pleasant bottle with a meal, and once again batting well above its price point.

  • Flavourful, intriguing in a light weight, firm frame. Youthful. It has a Nebbiolo floral character and a cleansing character to the tannin.
In 2014 Barbaresco was much more successful than Barolo.

  • nose dominated by cherry liquer, raw chocolate, coffee, cream. also faint savoury elements of soy / fish sauce. mouth-coating tannins grab the attention first, followed by rather high acidity. flavours of coffee and wood, but fruit barely identifiable at this stage. dry, bitter finish. disjointed and coarse. not sure whether there's any room for improvement...

two days later, the wine is in a much better shape. fruit is more present (blackberries), there's leather, tobacco, chocolate. the nose is more fragrant too, with pleasant florals and tar / earth. high acidity is still there but the tannins have been smoothed out quite a bit. still a bit coarse, but definitely more pleasant and approachable

  • Surprisingly good immediately after pulling the cork, continuing through dinner. Balance, persistent finish, fine fruit, not heavy, really a great value Barbaresco and a surprise for this vintage. Eric Asimov gave this 3 stars and marked this as his second favorite 2014 Barbaresco in a 2018 NYT article on a comparative tasting.

  • May 2018: Had in a 4-way blind barbaresco tasting next to a bunch of 2013s, with sauteed mushrooms, mushroom ravioli, etc. Very clear, ruby, med conc. N: flowers, strawberry. P: med+ tannin, med+ acid, sour cherry, darker fruits, med+ finish. Simple, juicy, taut+dark though. 90.

Feb 2018: Blind vertical tasting with 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014. Salumi, cheeses, crackers. Leather, floral, tart and elegant. Very pretty. Earthy nose, chewy palette. Needs time – very tart and tannic still. Quite drinkable though. Try in 2021. 91

Aldo Vacca: 2014 wines will be similar to those from the 2013 vintage, medium in body, but well balanced, rich in color and aromas, with great mineral finish and long lasting potential." … “2014 was a quite difficult season in the vineyards all over Europe; however the favorable end of the season proved to be a pleasant surprise for the quality of the grapes on the Langhe Hills. In particular, the region of Barbaresco was a shining exception in a difficult vintage. In the end, the total rainfall during the growing season in Barbaresco was almost one third than the rest of Piemonte and almost half of the one in Barolo. As we know a dry end of the season is all what it takes to make a great vintage."

  • Popped and put through an aerator into a decanter. 1hr was insufficient and this is a very very young wine. Acidity and tannic grip were over the top. Maybe will improve in 10 years.

  • Quite fresh and really enjoyable when given the right time. It's clearly a young wine and decanting seems necessary at this point. We decanted it for 4 hours.
The tannins was then notable but not affecting the overall balance in a negative way. It delivered dark red fruit, especially blackberries, some licorice and a hint of rock. It's not as complex or deep in its expression as the cru's or even some of the other vintages I have tasted from the producer, but it still remains great value for money.

  • Tasted over three days. Lovely aromatics, typical of variety and place, grace the wine throughout. Compelling energy, freshness, and lift to this. Red, high-pitched fruits and berries, at once pithy and gritty. Piercing tanginess, highly reminiscent of acerola, along with an underlying steeliness, interact harmoniously with medium plus to high acid and medium fine tannins, in forming a unique frame. The finish knows to quit. Whatever it may lack in terms of weight and depth, as compared to the 2008, 2010, and 2012 vintages, for example, it makes up with unbridled vivacity. It will last a long while. High QPR! 92-93.

  • Unsurprising there is very little development from my last tasting note a year and a half ago. Crystalline red fruit, red licorice, wet rock. With plenty of air, and on day 2, it took on a sappy texture with gripping tannin. Very young.

  • 3.25/5

Love the profile of this wine, medium to medium - acidity and tannin, lowish level fruit intensity, medium + finish length. So enjoyable to drink. Could be more complex - this is their entry level wine, performing well.

Strong buy again, at a reasonable price, <$30.

  • This bottle tasted like it was mildly corked, but not so bad that it was undrinkable. The beautiful strawberry on the nose was muted: bright strawberry, buoyed by va. On the palate, lithe and bright, but clearly missing a step. Some charcoal on a nice dark finish showing some finely grained tannin.

  • This was really quite nice last night. Light red color, floral and truffle and hints of licorice on the nose. Plate is lighter, tighter, but beginning to reveal very lithe cherry fruit amidst some earthy tones. You can feel that it's wound up on the palate, there's terrific energy and it is quite chewy and drying right now. Still, really enjoyable with HolyGrail wagyu stips. Last glass was best glass.

  • Yet again the Produtorri comes through with a fine village wine. Has plenty of life ahead and will improve from here. Relatively powerful, it has refined tannins and a good solid fruit structure that builds. For a commune wine this is definitely recommended.

  • Piedmont; 2/11/2019-2/15/2019 (Alba, Italy): I had this next to the 2015, and while both bottles were very honest to their vintage, I preferred the 2014. The problems that struck 2014 hit Barolo harder than Barbaresco (at least, according to Produttori and Giacosa), so it's going to be a mistake to pass on the 2014s here. This was lithe and elegant, with less of an in-your-face fruit character, but showing lovely overall restraint and balance.

  • Light in colour. Roses, red fruits, truffles, earthy, beautiful nose. On the palate, licorice, red fruits, some minerals. The acidity is very balanced, in poise with the tannins and the sweet fruit. The fruit is outstanding in this wine. Good finish. Not the longest, but very decent for this wine. I don't want this to end as it is still evolving. Surprisingly paired well with a med rare steak. Happy New Year everyone.

  • Very light and lively colour. Floral - violets in particular. Cloves again (a dominant spice today!) Carob. Meaty - roast beef. Camphor. Searing acidity. Saddle leather, strawberries, menthol, tobacco. So refined, so serious. I absolutely adore the lightness, the vivid, racy acidity, the lofty beauty, the sheer precision and clarity of vision. Brooding. Sensational.

  • Very good but needs at least an hour of good air or more before it finds its footing. My latest bottle I opened about 90 minutes before first pour, and it had a whiff of solvent, almost like paint, and was unimpressive. I worried that it was a dud bottle or my storage had gone wrong. But no, another hour in the decanter after the bottle had been open, and it integrated. It becomes lush, intense, almost thick in mouth feel, with a perfumed aspect floating above.

  • Loads of grippy tannins, medium high acid, red fruits. A big wine in need of lots of air at this age.

Revisited after leaving it in the decanter overnight. Totally different wine. All the rough edges are softened away and it's enjoyable to drink. I'd give this a few more years in bottle and a few hours of air.

  • Pale ruby.
Medium (+) intensity on the nose with aromas of fresh ripe strawberry, red plum, some subtle licquorice and dried cranberry.
Palate is dry, high acidity, high alcohol, high tannins which are ripe and grippy. It is full-bodied with medium (+) flavour intensity. Flavours as above with a long finish.
Very good quality. The wine is quite extreme, but the high levels of acid, tannin and alcohol all balance each other very well to create a harmonious and enjoyable wine. The flavour concentration is very good with typical flavours. The flavours are well-defined, and the ripe nature of the fruit balances the tannins which could otherwise be drying. It shows some complexity, though more would be required for an assessment of outstanding.
It has the structure to age so it is a wine to drink now, but has potential for further ageing to allow the fresh red fruit to develop into a more dried character and to add savoury notes. But it is drinking very well at the moment.

Informally, this wine exceed my expectations, showing greater ripeness and overt pleasure than I thought it would, whilst still retaining a classic dusty note. Delicious.

  • I think this is an excellent Barbaresco that I keep enjoying even thought it’s on the young side. Classic dried cherry and tannic with spice, it’s still pretty compact and wound up. No regret if you have more but hold next bottle until 2020.

  • This wine really sets a standard for barbaresco's. This is just coming into it's drinking window now, however, has full potential to last another 5-10 years. The nose is full of cherries, strawberries, cedarwood, and spice. The palate is fresh and not drying. There are fresh cherries, herbs and quite floral. The palate is beautifully balanced with smooth fine tannins which causes a wonderful fresh finish with the acidity lingering around the palate. I am buying more!

  • Very tasty. Benefits from a fair amount of time in the glass, next one I'll decant for an hour or more. Excellent savoury character coming through and blending with the florals. The tannins softened significantly after airing out. Just lovely.

  • Some reduction on opening. Reticent nose that never fully opens up -- some violet and cran-cherry fruit. Gum-coating very fine-grained tannins. Mid-weight with a reasonably long finish. Much lighter, more elegant but ultimately less interesting than a 2013 Produttori Montestefano from a few nights ago. I do really like the balance to this wine and that makes me think it might be really interesting in 5-10 years. Will buy a couple more and let them sit a few years.

  • Medium garnet color slightly lighter at rim. A lively nose of black cherry, strawberry and dried cranberry with rose, licorice and cedar integrating in beautifully. On the palate you are greeted with black cherry then strawberry and dried cranberries finishing with licorice (spice) and rose. The tannins are firm and dry (this is Nebbiolo after all) with a medium-medium+ acidity. The body is medium and the texture is round. A medium finish and a medium+ complexity. A lovely wine that will undoubtedly get better with age.

  • Another stunning performance from the '14 Produttori Barbaresco, showing beautifully right now but with many years of enjoyment ahead. The nose showed a mix of dusty sweet cherry and cranberry with cedar spice box, dried florals, fresh rosemary and mint. On the palate, I found soft, juicy textures, giving way to ripe strawberry, minerals, and sweet inner florals, in a wonderfully lifted and feminine expression mixing perfectly ripe, zesty fruit and a tart twang of savory herbs. The finish was long, resonating on tart cherry with a coating of fine tannin.

  • Eric's note pretty much says it all. Tar, cherries, herbs, roses and spices but still with a youthful dark berry/violet tone that is driving and dominant. Pretty nose shows dried rose petals herbs and lacquered cherry fruit. Medium–plus tannins that lie beneath the weight of the fruit on the pallet and rise up on the finish to leave a mouthwatering and mouth puckering tannic finish. This is lighter on acidity, although there is certainly a bright charge beneath the denseness of the youthful fruit, which I would expect to emerge with time in the cellar. Nevertheless, this is not as bright as some past vintages that I can recall and comes across as a medium-light framed, classically styled wine of modest proportion, that should drink well in a 6 to 8 year drinking window, though is appealing at the moment as well.

    Very Good

  • Read somewhere that this should be available for consumption already now, so I had to try an early bottle. Other vintages have been austere when drunk young. This vintage is absolutely approachable now. Complex nose with tobacco, cherry, marzipan and hints of raw potato and prunes. The palate has a lot of the same with the addition of some «heavy» fruits. Tight structure and good length. Ate it to salami pizza.

  • Still young but more than excellent. Nose is bright with volatile tones of what would normally be classic nebbiolo vapors -- of tar and roses, but here is definitely sharper, almost as if one can smell the acidity in the wine. The palate is also bright and young, but has heft and lip-smacking bright nebbiolo fruit along with some earthier tones, and after the wine has been open for a minimum of 30 minutes starts to show some definite tannic back end.

  • I remember the first time that I tasted the 2014 Barbaresco normale, and how much it impressed me then. I’m happy to say that this bottle showed that lightning can strike twice. The 2014 Barbaresco showed a classic bouquet of dried roses with ripe strawberry, dusty minerals, hints of cinnamon and crushed mint. On the palate, I found initially soft textures with pure, ripe strawberry, which were quickly firmed up by a mix of fine tannin and brisk acidity. However, with all of the structural components in this glass, the experience remained quite enjoyable with inner floral tones, saline-minerality and persistent fresh red fruit. The finish was long, structured and lingering on dried strawberry, minerals and savory herbs. Yum!

  • Not the style I love, but still pleasant and approachable young. Bigger and more extracted than usual, slightly liqueur-like cherry fruit with hints of ripe plums and chocolate. Tannins are grippy, but not on the scale you typically find. Just seems a bit hot and off, but very quaffable unlike most Nebbiolo. One for rich stews and not for cellaring.

    A:Pale Ruby
N:Violets and roses. Strawberry, red cherry, hummus. Medium (+) int. Developing
P: Aromas confirmed with some VA here on the palate and a dark bitterness on the back. Dry, medium (+) acid, medium (+) tannin intensity, body and finish. Alcohol high (14%) but so well integrated that i guessed it was lower initially.
C: Old world (not fruit driven)
Cool climate judging by acid and fruit ripeness
Varietal could be Nebbiolo or Sangiovese but something a bit bitter at the end which may be the tar expected of a Nebbiolo. Plumped for Nebbiolo in the end from Barbaresco as less impactful than Barolo.

Got this one right. If ever you are faced with a wine that looks like a Pinot Noir but has higher tannin and more florals, you know its a Nebbiolo.

  • This is glorious, even though it is still quite young! The nose is lively cherry with roses or maybe violets for that lovely Barbaresco femininity, with maybe a whiff of vanilla at the back? Bright, fresh, clean fruit taste with soft, but definitely dusty tannins in the mid-palate that are still propped up by a blast of acidity in the finish that will make this a food friendly wine. Good to drink alone near your fireplace or with a feast. I'm so happy that I have two more bottles to squirrel away to see how this progresses, but I think it is still ready to enjoy now. • Tasted over three days, alongside the 2012 vintage. The first time tasting this since a 07/17 visit to the winery. Came away with all the same impressions, especially alongside the deeper 2012. This is a wine of energy, lift, and verve. It conveys floral and berry notes, along with interesting juniper berry and hibiscus essences. The wine lacks for nothing, including roundness. It is not, however, of the same quality as the declassified 2010 and 2012 vintages. Might it put on weight and depth with age? Certainly! Is it likely to? Most likely not. 92-93.

  • MNB: Non-Champagne Traditional Method Sparklers (Home (Noe st)): (Blind)
Pale ruby. Slightly confected red cherry. Beautiful ripe and dried cherry. Damp earth, petrichor. Some development - time in neutral barrels.
Dry, medium body, 13.5% alcohol (actually 14%), medium plus tannins - chewy, medium plus acid.

    Laterals:
    - Barolo/Barbaresco (too low alcohol, tannins)
    - Langhe Nebbiolo - too high in quality, complexity, finish.
    - Chianti - too low in acid.
    - Grenache - acid too high.
    - Pinot - too tannic.
    - Etna Rosso - would have higher acid and probably not as clean fruit.

  • Tasting. Brief note. Pnp. Nose and palate are showing nicely right now with plenty of tight red fruits, florals, spice. Midpalate shows off the fruits and florals framed by oaky/grainy tannins and streaky acidity. Finish is spice driven and medium. Nice

  • Nose was surprisingly similar to the older wines we drank before it with vanilla oak and dried fruit (perhaps leftover from my glass?), however palate was very fresh with red fruits, balanced, a bit of astringency on the finish.

  • double decanted a couple of hours in advance. light translucent ruby color. Nose bright sour cherries, quite open -- perhaps decanting helped. Palate right roses/tar, lightly dusty tannins on finish. Very nice and great QPR. Obviously young but approachable with a decant. 93 pts

  • My first bottle of a 2014 Barbaresco, and it was a good start. This was popped and poured, but given about 30 minutes ox. Great nose with beautiful soft rose and loads of red fruit. Fantastic acidity on the palate, with a rather tannic finish. Definitely needs lots of time, but quite charming already.

  • Ate at a restaurant in D.C. offering this by the glass and jumped at the chance to "check in" on this wine without killing one of my own bottles. Very tight right now. Fresh acidity permeates the entire wine and is ahead of the fruit and slightly ahead of the tannin. Quite primary at this point, but the quality and flavor seems to be there. Didn’t open up in the glass, but could have been a PnP by the restaurant. Needs 3-4 years.

  • This is a nice wine. Elegant, yet structured with good concentration. Red fruited with spice and light licorice accents. An excellent value.

Encore ? Une demi caisse ? Une caisse ? Tout un RQP.

  • Probably will gain a couple of points with a few years of bottle age. Very approachable even now. Very Nebbiolo with light body, good fruit, and plenty of tannic grip.

  • Still very young. Some carbonation when opened which goes away after some decanting. On the palate it was licorice, strawberry with noticeable tannins. Should be ready in a couple (3-5) years. I will buy more but will sit on it for at least 3 years.

  • Clear medium light red. Medium intense cherry and berry nose with a hint of herbs and earth. Delicious dry berry fruit. The finish is incredibly tannic.

    Lots of potential here.

  • Lacks much noise, but large on flavor. Red cherry, loads of tannin and acid. Decanting did not improve over the pnp experience. Still evolving. Will last at least fifteen more years.

  • I think I’m giving up on buying young barbaresco and barolos - not a bad wine but clearly needs another 5 years before beginning to show potential - leather plum menthol licorice and dark berries but all overwhelmed by tannins that need a few years to integrate - it opened up after about 3 hours to something more flavorful but not something I would buy again - I think a Nebbiolo younger than 10 years is just something I won’t be buying again

  • The structure is well ahead of the fruit right now. Good balance between tannin and acid though some integration is needed there. The fruit concentration seemed low to me which would give me pause on any extended cellaring. This is probably going to be very good in ten years. In twenty the fruit will likely be struggling to express above the acidity.

  • Decanted for 2hrs. Robust aromas of candied red fruit, red licorice, fennel, and floral pastille. Full, sappy texture with broad acidity and predictably gripping tannin. This is another standout 'Le Torre' from Produttori, it has some youthful appeal with its forceful structure and already impressive complexity, but it will be phenomenal in ten years. Drink after 2020.

  • Great q/p , red fruits, cherries, menthol, obviously young, will improve with time but anyway if decanted at least 2/3 hours give you a nice surprise. I must buy more

  • Decanted for 4 hours before pouring. Light red. All menthol and fennel. Light body. Some cherry fruit tries to find its way through, but it is squashed by the overwhelming green tones. Little texture, grainy tannins. A cooler vintage exposition for sure, and ultimately too meager for me to be confident about recommending or buying. Poor showing for a Produttori bottling, even at the low end-more akin to a generic Nebbiolo.

  • Clean and clear in color. Big cherry on the palate. Elegant and understated. Nice vintage for this wine.

  • Floral, long with tons of potential ahead.

  • Very nice, with dark fruits, cherry, rose, tar and savory notes. Nice nose of berry and some herb. Good balance. Excellent basic barbaresco that once again is batting above its prose point.

  • Took about an hour for what seemed like tca to blow off then came stewed cherries and roses. $16 at Costco, my new house red at that price.

  • The nose was dark with mineral-laced strawberry, dusty florals, sweet spice and hints of cedar. On the palate, I found juicy, energetic textures offset by tart cherry, strawberry, cedar tones and savory minerals. Saturating tannin and minerals lasted long into the structured finish.

  • I think my first eight words were all the same, "wow!". Very content to sit and smell this for (ever?) several minutes; it's clear this is just winegrowing/winemaking on another level. Bright and energetic, this is classically built, with great weight and energy to the medium body. Deeply sapid, this wine just pulses with energy. Pomegranate, strawberries, limestone, soil, cherries, etc. Fantastic. You need at least a case. Plus magnums. Should continue to evolve for 15-20 years.

  • Tasted at the winery. Classic Produttori Barbaresco, on the fruit, elegant style and very good now but will not go as far as the better 2013 that shows more balance and has more backbone.

  • Tasted at the winery on 7/3. Bright and tangy red fruits, violets, orange zest, and layered earth and minerality on the bouquet. Overall, traditional and compelling. The wine makes its mark on the palate, delivering an amalgam of precision, firmness, and roundness, a rarity for wines in this price range. Each smell and taste imparted strong senses purpose and identity. Overall, it shows similar structure to the 2010 and 2012 vintages, though not as weighty as the latter, with floral lift similar to the 2008 and 2011 vintages. If this fleshes out, and it may, it will be spectacular (94-95 points). If not, it is a very fine 93 point wine.

  • Tasted at the winery. Agree 100% with Wine Strategies note from below; this is a very impressive normale release. Not that I have much to add to his note, but here goes. Classic nose of cherry and menthol, but fresher, brighter and deeper than the Langhe Nebbiolo. Medium to full bodied (14% ABV) with a lot more richness and depth. Complex mix of red fruit with red cherry, strawberry and tart cherry interwoven with some deeper redfruit notes behind. Already shows good integration between the upfront fruit and the background structure such that you end up with a multi-layered wine with a real roundness and an excellent transition to the lengthy finish. This is almost certainly one of the better bargains out there and I'm excited to see how it ages.

  • Stunning. Tasted today during the Grandi Langhe event in Neive. In a room full of Barbaresco wines from dozens of producers, showing many vintages (to show a vertical context), this wine was in a category all its own. Electric was the word that kept repeating in my head, this is so fresh, so balanced. This may be my favorite new release classico in the past decade; likely even more than that. It's thrilling. Medium-bodied with great cut, the layers of red fruit come with plenty of citrus and pomegranate/strawberry aromas and flavors. If you're a fan of this house, I strongly suggest you consider multiple cases. May well end up being one of those wines that's always going to be on point; a life of 20+ years should be no problem at all. A masterpiece of freshness, structure and elegance. highly recommended+
