Ruby red in color. 14% ABV. From a variety of vineyards including Kanzler, Gap’s Crown and Bootlegger’s Hill. Rustic nose of dark fruit, cloves and forest floor. Medium body with medium to strong acidity. Earthy and brooding. Black cherry, plums, earth and minerals on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. My favorite KB’s lean more lush and red fruited but this still drinks really well. Best over the next 1-2 years.

I know Kosta can be overrated, but this one deserves it. Maybe I was just in a mood, maybe it's perfectly aged, but the so-called "basic" Sonoma Coast fired on all cylinders. Strawberries and cherries on a magic carpet of earth and rain.

Good bouquet when opened. Color light burgundy and lighter at rim. Legs took awhile to start and ran medium fast. Funky nose, smelled this before but can't place. Doesn't affect taste. Tannins when swished and active on side of cheeks. I refer to mouth cheeks, not...never mind. When sipped not as apparent. Dark black fruit profile, blackberry. Medium body. Looks pretty in glass under light. Still opening up. Keep reaching for more. Not as heavy as in past years. This may be either due to vintage or winemaker preference. Nice wine. Different than previous vintages, not as concentrated, and initially felt more dilute. But after two days opened its just more delicate an light on its feet. More like Martinelli in that respect. Stand by my word it's a nice wine.

Perfectly nice bottle of wine. Decanted for 90 minutes. Inky purple in the glass. Some red fruit and a touch of herbs on the nose. Medium+ body. More red fruit and herbs in the mouth. Tangy candied orange-ish acidity that drives toward the finish. Smooth and sweet (almost a touch syrupy}. Good balance (structure). Some distracting oak.
Not sure I understand these wines from a value perspective. I feel like there are numerous other options that deliver far more complexity for less money. That said it was a crowd pleaser with the grilled pork chops.

A lovely, velvety mouthfeel and lots of fresh, juicy red fruits. This was very enjoyable, though I did feel like some depth was missing, from both acidity and secondary flavors. I suspect this will age well, but if you enjoy a smooth, easy to drink and very fruit-driven Pinot, don't hesitate to pop the cork.

This bottle was pulled in the 8th inning so no formal notes but just impression.
Fully in secondary & tertiary development. On the savory spectrum with less fruit. Great transition away form the Chenin Blancs and Champagne that had been pulled for the seafood cioppino.
This will continue to age well not sure the outcome will be any better in doing so.
Drink or hold.

This was delicious, but not that interesting. Lots of fruit, velvety mouthfeel, texture for days, and a real pleasure to drink. I tend to like a little more acidity, a little more savory/earth, and for Sonoma coast, more of that effervescent/eucalyptus thing. Overall, this was lovely.

Nose of cranberry, wet clay, red apple skin, sage, subtle cloves.
On the palate sour cherry, cranberry, apple skin and a driving mineral tone.
The wine has great balance with fresh acidity framed by integrated tannins. It’s in a great place right now and should keep for another few years.
Really impressed by this vintage. I like how KB started moving away from their previous level of extraction. It’s helping to bring out a better sense of place.

Very aromatic, violets and earth. Quite closed initially, strong floral notes up front but fruits were very subdued. Much better on 2nd night, still floral, accented by pencil shavings and followed with red fruits and mushroomy notes. Perhaps this wine is going through a closed phase, good overall but not what we've been accustomed to with KB Pinots. Try again in 1 year.

This was an excellent start to our family celebration for my kid's birthdays. This is really drinking very nicely at this juncture. Smooth and silky and fully integrated. Wine Group Picnic at Steve's: PnP out of Mag - This wine was a pleasant surprise, as I have not had many Kosta Brown wines. Showed plenty of red fruit on the nose and palate, although this wine also had a nice floral bouquet too. Palate also showed some earth and spice on the finish. This is definitely a fruit forward wine, but tastes delicious! Finish was medium, but very smooth. An enjoyable young pinot that is drinking quite well young. 92+

Was excited to be able to access more of this during our recent trip to the winery. The years have been kind to this wine and I could have easily hit a 93 score. Classic Sonoma fruit, deep red and smooth as silk. A bit of savory earth and good from beginning to end. Still fresh and in prime drinking window. No flaws here, a bit straightforward but nothing wrong with that.

Crimson in color. 14% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, baking spices and sarsaparilla. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Rich, plush and opulent. Tremendous balance. Raspberry, strawberry, plums and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Delicious Pinot Noir that is true to the Kosta Browne style. This only bodes good things for the single vineyard designates. Best over the next 2-4 years.

Deep Ruby color, clearing at the edge. Nose is surprisingly shy, just a suggestion of black fruits, grape stem and sun dried tomato ( of all things). Body is medium weight and tannins are fine and moderately firm, which surprised me, but it doesn't detract from the wine at all, especially since the acidity is well balanced and mouthwatering. The slurp is delicious, red berry, saddle leather and spice notes marry well for a supple and fruit driven palate.

An excellent wine, particularly since it is a lighter version of other KB wines. Starts with a tart cherry nose. The same on the palate with a burst of ripe fruit, tangy fruit and a touch of spice. A nice, smooth finish showing oak, cinnamon and cherry.

Side by side tasting of the 2016 Russian River Valley, Santa Rita Hills and Sonoma Coast bottlings.
The SRH has by far the most expressive nose of explosive wild cherries and strawberries. The wine is extremely juicy and fruit forward. Bright cherries, licorice and loam. Mouth-coating viscosity and a real purity and depth of flavors. Delicious and impossible to put down. 92+
The RRV is the most restrained of the 3. It is more closed and with more noticeable tannins. Dark cherry fruit and chocolate notes. The finish is shorter than the SRH and SC. 90
The SC is more approachable than the RRV although does not have the same explosive nose as the SRH. Beautiful nose of red cherries with a sense of elegance and balance. Superfine silky tannins. Finish is medium length. 91

Thouraghly enjoyed with a nice bone-in New York Strip! Tasted the cherry, cola and hint of smoke when first opened but after thirty minutes this wine truly came alive. It really makes ones mouth just explode with happiness when it hits your taste buds. Will give the 2017’s I have another year to see if they can match this one. If you see a 2016 somewhere, buy it!!

Succulent and savory, this Pinot has a lot going on and pulls it all together really well. Cola, cranberry, cherry, baking spices and hints of smoke all come together in a full but not over the top Pinot.

Out of this world. Best Sonoma coast Pinot I have had. Just as good as any Russian river Pinot too. Intoxicating nose of beautiful red fruit. The most distinguishing feature of this wine is the long smooth finish. Too bad it’s so hard to get this wine for Canadians.

Third of the Pinot's for Cousin Pudges birthday. Subdued notes of cherry, tea and some earthy tones. Enjoyed but could use some more cellar time. Both of us enjoyed but seem this wine came in third this night with the WS TdP being the most enjoyed. Wine had 1/2 hour decant and probably needed more but we just kept drinking.....

All ripe cherry on the nose, little bit of orange zest, the palate follows suit, with a bit of cola and bramble entering the mix of that same ripe cherry and zest. Really quite tasty. *Note* due to a bit too much wine, this was consumed in its entirety on day 2, after several hours of decanting and then going back in the bottle. Reminded me the magic of KB and how much flavor you can extract from this grape.

This started out a bit tart with cherry and rhubarb notes. It seemed a bit sour and the body was a bit thin, almost insipid. The mouthfeel was present but it lacked some of the richness of fruit that long time KB drinkers relished. Don't get me wrong here, there is nothing flawed in this bottle. I only struggle to compare it to a single vineyard offering I drank before it at $25 less a bottle that clearly outshines this wine. I think this would be better if paired with food as it did have the stuffing to complement the right dish.

A solid appellation offering from KB. Silky red fruit and a palate pleasing delivery. Not as fullbodied and ripe as past vintages and style. Still pure fruit and excellent balance and weight.

Clearly a change in style from previous vintages. Much lighter and lacking the extraction of previous. Will reserve final judgement to see how it evolves in the coming years, but first impression is that the new direction is a mistake. That said this is superior to the 2016 RRV which was lacking in any personality at all.

Still much too young, but wanted to try a bottle from the case. Cherry and some cola present, especially after a few hours. Enough acidity there to know it will age well (and pair well with food). It should be quite nice in a few years. Will revisit in 2020. 91+

Opened the RRV and the Sonoma Coast early to test drive this vintage.
The Sonoma Coast is lighter and tighter than its RRV sibling. The wine was opened and consumed over several hours and enjoyed with a peppered bacon wrapped port tenderloin.
Medium- in body with lighter aroma and flavor profiles. The red fruits are present and no green elements as found in the 2016 RRV.
The food brought more out from this wine and the red fruits with some herbal and mineral elements were enjoyable.
Needs a year or two and will be a decent Pinot but not a KB powerhouse Pinot.

PNP and consumed over two hours. Sometimes the UPS truck comes by with your wine and you know it's too soon but you open a bottle anyway. That's ok, life is short and curiosity is often better off answered than denied. A lovely full bodied KB Pinot that will reward some cellar time but is also enjoyable enough today. Glad we pulled the cork and looking forward to the other bottles. For us, it's 93-94 range.

Opened for a couple hours in bottle. Very solid Sonoma Coast bottling balancing full bodied extract with food friendly acidity. Still stylistically this leans more toward full bodied with plenty syrupy raspberry, cola and vanilla. Freshness is added with iron rich minerals and fresh cherries. Needs 1-2 more years to full evolve.

Red berries on the nose with a hint of leather. Matching palate with a very bright finish that made it very food friendly with Lebanese food, both the chicken and lamb shanks.
