Good but I think the issue with this wine is that the sweetness is overwhelming. I have had sauternes from 2009 and 2016 and they got the sweetness much more undercontrol. I think the acidity is the reason for this imbalance. The wine got a lot of life left tho. I believe in a few years the flavor might mellow out a bit more and less imbalance
Losing much of the floral characteristics from the last bottle opened 4 years ago. Leaning towards burnt toffee flavors with treacle and burnt orange in the background. Drinkable, but not especially enjoyable. This from a 375 ml (half) bottle), likely that a full (750 ml) bottle would be in better condition.

Very sweet (somewhat cloying). Full body. High acidity. Round texture. Long finish. It tastes like honey with notes of ripe pear, nutty, orange, orange blossom, lychee, ginger, and white florals.

Very mineral driven with lots botrytis, hay and dried fruit, unfortunately a bit disjoint. Not the most complex sauterne, probably in part due to the fading fruit. Sweet, but not cloying.
Beautiful golden in the glass, with notes of honey, candied fruit, baked apple, stewed orange on the nose. The palate is more honey and baked/stewed fruit, with a slight complexity offered up by a candied ginger note. The mouthfeel is luscious, creamy and smooth. Delicious dessert wine.

I quite like this, because it isn't too sweet, but it is rich and minerally - really nice with some dried up blue cheese I found - medium deep orangey gold, rich botrytis nose, not too sweet smelling, palate is thick but not unctuous and not too sweet - maybe lacks some acid, the finish is good not great, but I really like this cuz I always wonder what to do with Sauternes, but this is perfect for cheese/pate as aperitif, lovely

Patio Chilling at Tilia (Tilia, Mpls): Deep gold color. Drank a glass from 375 ml over 30 minutes. This was more mature, deeper, unctuous, honeyed, orange marmalade, caramelized brown sugar, ripe pear and baked apple, sweet, rich and round. Very good but with a much more mature profile than the sleek, bright '05 we drank along side. 91+ to 92pts.

A dinner with friends in NYC (New York): Accompanied the final course of cheesecake, and the combination couldn't have been more perfect. Liquid cheesecake is how I would describe it. Vanilla, candied orange, caramel. A slight, bitter herbal finish is masked by the sugar of the cheesecake.

I've always thought this was a very reliable producer and this bottle did not disappoint. Displays a surprisingly dark color for only a 12 year old sauternes, but that didn't bother me at all. On the nose, you get the very classic toffee, burnt embers, and roasted almond notes that come very well together when framed with a zesty acidity. Decent finish plays on the strength of the fruit, right about where a dessert wine should be. Stood up to some nice cheese and nuts. For the money, it's a very good bottle, it just lacks a touch of complexity of some of the more elite sauternes that would merit a higher score.

Medium dark gold color. From 375ml, split bottle over an hour. Nose starts with botrytis, tangerine, orange marmalade, ripe peach, honey, apple, white blossoms. The palate really has a nice texture, honeyed and juicy fruits of pear, tangerine, baked apple, peach, spice, and honeysuckle. There's plenty of acid and this has got some length too. Very nice.

Apricots, quince and a touch of meyer lemon on the palate. High acidity (slightly astringent) offsets an unusually restrained sweetness., especially for a nominal dessert wine. Still has many (7+ years) ahead of it.

A little spicy for a dessert wine for me but hubby loves it, think he gave it a 93. Pears and spice, vanilla. Wouldn't say no if it was on the table again but didn't knock it out of the park for me.

Not the finest Guiraud ever made, sure, but a CT average a hair over 90? No, this is much finer than that.
Super spicy, in a great way. Pears, the kind of french vanilla syrup you get a shot of in your coffee, toasted coconut, orange marmalade, underripe papaya. Still youthful after a decade+ -- unlikely to improve a ton from here, but could still reach classic (~95) levels before it's all over...
Peach and slight botrytis on nose. Honey at first - sweet but not cloying because of acidity that cuts through. Alll sorts of fruit going on and some lavender - or is that my garden?

On the orange side of the style range, with plenty of honeyed, tangerine, apricot, nectarine, pineapple and honeysuckle. Medium/full bodied, with freshness and lift, but lacking more of the yellow fruit I find in the best years.

The Guiraud's color always looks so appetizing. Deep amber color. Forward nose of honey, apricot and orange marmalade. Full body with strong acidity that prevents the sweetness from being cloying. The acidity shows a little bit on the long finish. Great. From a half-bottle.

2006 Guiraud is relatively light in body and has a searing acidity that balances out the sweetness. Lemon peel, canned peach, orange lifesaver, cigarette ash notes pop. It is a sauternes that leans more towards elegance than richness. It appeared a bit simple at first, with aeration, little spice notes came through, upping the level of complexity. 90+ points.

En Primeur Bdx. 2014 tasting event, reference wine from producer from older vintage, tasting pour, short note. This shows a fine Sauternes spicy nose, with white stone fruits, sweet and ripe tropical tones and spicy botrytis present. Palate is perhaps a bit un balanced right now, with the sweetness and density of the fruit on top, but still with a fine acidity present. Needs more time to level out. (89 – 90+)

Good amount of honey and light spices on the nose along with varied tropical fruit notes. Medium bodied and quite expressive with very good fruit complexity. The honey was there of course, along with apricot, peach and orange flavors. Finished with a very nice mix of lemon, grapefruit and botrytis. Strengths of this wine were the flavor complexity through the middle and the balance between the sweetness and the acidity. I would've rated this wine higher if it had a bit more acidity and structure, but it had more than enough to balance the current sweetness level and to avoid coming off as flabby or syrupy. I expect it should have a long life ahead of it and has the potential for future positive evolution.

Was a bit light compared to the CG '03 tried recently. Lacked acidity, had nice flavors of grapefruit & apricot, but a bit flabby and a lackluster finish, gonna wait a yr or two before trying another.. Don't know if time is going to benefit.. So glad the 03 is still plentiful. If you like a Sauternes that's on the tart side.. This is for you

Color is beautiful gold; no hint of amber yet. Taste is good. What's amazing are the thousands of very small sugar crystals that glitter in sunlight. A good Sauternes, but likely to be overtrumped for the price I paid: $65 (in Switzerland..). Would pay $45 for more, but not more. Guess this one really is something for the upper medium run, at least 2018.

This wine is still good, but it has not evolved much in the last year. There is a a lot of sweetness with apricot and honey notes. I sampled over 3 days, and I did not see much change in the wine. It is good, but I don't see this as a cellar selection.

A blend of organically farmed Sémillon (65%) and Sauvignon Blanc (35%). Fermented for 3-6 weeks and aged for 18-24 months in oak barriques (90% new, 10% 2nd use). 13,96% alcohol, 140 g/l residual sugar and 5,7 g/l acidity. Total production 60,000 bottles.
Honey yellow color. Complex, rich and toasty nose with aromas of nuttiness, honeyed tones, nuanced botrytis notes, some dried peach and a hint of toasted bread. Complex, smooth and medium-to-full-bodied on the palate. Doesn't feel as weighty as the better vintages, but shows still more body and concentration than the 2010 tasted alongside. Very sweet, delicious and surprisingly developed flavors of roasted nuts, almond paste, toasty spices, bergamot, orange marmalade, some dried mirabelle plums, a hint of smoke and a touch of tar. Feels pretty balanced with good, moderate acidity. The finish is long, sticky and complex with flavors of honey, tar, concentrated dried fruits, some vanilla, a little bit of spicy oak and a hint of sweet baking spices.
A lovely, but at that point already surprisingly developed Sauternes from a not-so-great vintage. Doesn't reach the heights of the best vintages and neither does it promise much about aging potential if it is this mature already, but these qualities don't fortunately take away any of its deliciousness. Occasionally Guiraud can be a bit too green when enjoyed too young because of its high proportion of SB, but not this one. Lovely depth and complexity with a peculiar, tarry character. I would've welcomed a bit higher acidity, as the wine became a bit plump in the glass as it warmed up, so serving the wine cool enough is highly recommended. Not really a Sauternes I'd age for a long time; enjoy within 15-20 years from the vintage.

Sauternes 2010 (and reference vintages) at Le Week-end des Grand Crus (Bordeaux): Nose: citrus, dried apricots and dried tropical fruit, botrytis, spice and some solvent notes. Popped and poured from split; drank over two days. Notes did not differ materially between the days. The color is a golden straw, with pineapple and marshmallow on the nose. In the mouth, this is somewhat “plushy” or flabby – the acid and structure seem to be lacking, which makes this a bit too much to handle. The finish leaves lush sweetness, but again prompts a sense of overkill. Unclear if age will help matters. 88 points.

NobleRottersSydney - 2003 reds (Pazzo, Surry Hills): [375ml, 13.5%, cork] {DavidC} Quite youthful nose of nougat, marzipan and vanilla bean. Clean and fresh. Surprisingly dense on the palate; medium-full bodied, low in acid, and about medium-dry for sweetness. It has plenty of rich presence on the mid-palate, and a medium length finish of vanilla and nougat, but there’s a certain thickness to the texture which tells me it will be a shorter term cellaring proposition.

Baked banana nose with waffley character, cream toffee and some spicy hints such as cardamom and thyme. Sweet medium bodied palate with delicate fruit flavours and a fine acidic backbone. White peach and citrus as well as white flowers, almond cookie and brown sugar notes. Dry mid-length aftertaste feels a tad hollow. Rather finely tuned and a bit more airy performance with refreshing structure. Unfortunately the finish was somewhat uninspiring.

From 375, great nose and was much better than expected, as the 2006 vintage is 'weak' compared to 2005 and 2007. I'll be stocking up on this since given the current market price, this is a steal.

Popped at fridge temp to a deep golden honey color. Pineapple, dried apricot, and honey, with an interesting white flower and bee pollen component swelling in the mid-palate and carrying the finish, ending with a distinct toasted coconut note. Primary in its youth but not too sweet. I've got a few of these but the deliciousness factor might prevent recording any notes on aging.

Tasted this at the Chateau. Heavenly flavors of apricot, orange, pineapple, peach, coconut, and sweet oak. Thick, creamy, layered, and multi-dimensional palate with a lifted finish. Apricot and pear flavors, sweet though not really rich. Medium viscosity. Not especially satisfying on its own as dessert or with almond cake with pear apple compote. Probably would have shown better in a glass bigger than the cordial glass we had it in. Not giving much wow or pop tonight.

Popped and poured in a fit of spontaneity after the 95 Royal Tokaji Essencia. Quite a different beast from the Tokay, this wine showed pronounced sweetness, a graceful airiness, and wonderful acidity. Where the Tokay was a bruiser, this wine had real elegance and femininity. The palate finished with hints of coconut and some steeliness. Really nice, not in the realm of Yquem but a smashing QPR for those who love Sauternes.

WFA Bordeaux 2005/2006 Tasting by the Wine Review (Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore): Nice flavours no doubt, but just too sweet at the moment. Nose showed interesting almond nuts, macaron and marzipan notes. Palate was a sugar-bomb. Ever so cloying, it had a ton of honey mixed with orange marmalade and mango puree flavours. Needs more acidity. Finish was really rich too, with coffee and dried apricot flavours thrown into the mix. I would give this a whole lot of time for the sugars to mellow and integrate before broaching it again.

Apricots, quince and a touch of meyer lemon on the palate. High acidity (slightly astringent) offsets an unusually restrained sweetness., especially for a nominal dessert wine. Still has many (7+ years) ahead of it.

88 points.

It has plenty of rich presence on the mid-palate, and a medium length finish of vanilla and nougat, but there’s a certain thickness to the texture which tells me it will be a shorter term cellaring proposition.
