6.5+ years since last opened. Resembles a CdP of the same age: a little bricking along the edge in a glass, earthy on the nose and palate. Poured thru a Vinturi and served with rare rack of lamb. A solid 92 first night, stored under Argon and will finish with remainder of lamb rack tomorrow. Glad to have 2 more in the cellar

Decanted 1hour, paired with marinated hanger steak, this bottle was cellared for 11 years in a very cool environment. It has held up well, especially for a CDR, certainly drinks more like a mid level CDP. Plenty of of meaty flavors that went well with the rare hanger steak, some blood, dark cherry, currants, earthy finish. Certainly on the back end of its drinking window bot seemed to get better from glass to glass suggesting no hurry to drink.

Surprisingly fresh and youthful. Nice darker violet colour, clean, with watery rim. Eucalyptus and sour cherry with touch of alcohol on the nose. The palate is lifted by fresh acidity, tannins are present, but grained and sweet. No tertiary aromas just fresh and mellow aged Southern Rhone of a very good quality. I cannot prejudice further aging, but based on this bottle, there is no need to rush. Very good one for the last hours of 2016.

My last bottle of 12 and they've all been great. Clean nose, thought a touch hot and spirity compared to others. But plenty of black olive and baked earth too. Not quite the stuffing of other bottles, but still very satisfying.

Stored at ambient basement temperature since 2010 this has lost much of it's fruit. Some nice dark fig & pomegranate but lacking something. Will drink my remaining bottles soon. Poor storage or bottle variation?

Tight cork in good condition, barely stained. Dark ruby, dense but not opaque. Earth and oak aromas. Intriguing flavors, constantly shifting, with a small but persistent dose of bitter fruit giving additional character. Lovely texture, medium finish. Really, really good.

It's been a while, but yet another lovely bottle. Classic notes of black olive, roast earth and wild herbs. Complex and light toned, it shows a lightness compared to many a Chateauneuf, but that's no bad thing given those bruisers can be little fun and just de trop.

Warm, sunny, dusty nose with hot iron, which showed more after some time. Coming and going waves of alcohol, but not disrupting. Palate of sweet ripe red and black fruit and citrus bitters. Citrus acidity. Long. Mature soft wine, medium body, light weight. Not mind blowing, but very elegant and nice wine with personality.

Delicious. This has a really nice balance of maturity. complexity and freshness. Shows a little garnet on the rim. Nose is complex and interesting, garigue, smoke and meat with some blackberry. Fresh, blackberry and red cherry fruit with juicy acidity and fine tannins. Nice length on the finish. Superior wine, very tasty.
Update: After 72 hours open (in the fridge) this became even more rounded and nuanced. Really nice balance - great value for the tariff. Upgrading to 92 points.

Consistently a great bottle of wine and a bargain in this price range. Classic Rhône: dark berries, spice, garrigue combined with a chewy mouth feel. In perfect balance now, but probably no rush drinking the remaining bottles in the cellar.

Probably the best Côtes du Rhône around, and a wine that many would be proud to bottle as a Chateauneuf. The 2006 is packed with black fruit, spices (garrigue)and distinct peppery notes on the nose. The texture is chewy and mouthfilling. Great bottle - especially taking the relatively modest price into consideration.

Young and a bit closed. With enough air it slowly opens up to reveal a nice combination of (not too obvious) Grenache fruit and lovely, much darker Syrah tones. An excellent CdR with a long life ahead.

Sadly, my last bottle of this as I think it's still on the upswing. This is a little less concentrated than some years, but has a nice acidic backbone and focus that I find appealing. Nose is the expected mix of iodine, meat, blood, kirsch, sandalwood and dark cherry fruit. Herbs and spices dominate the palate, fine acidity and fine chalky tannins. Only a slightly shorter finish than expected keeps this from being a great wine. Drink or hold.

Aucun développement même après 2h de carafe... en fait, le vin était refermé sur lui-même et donnait quand même une belle finale, assez particulier, le nez était bien, mais aucune bouche... bref belle déception pour un petit vin que j'attendais plus que cela :)

Deep garnet. The aromatics move through layers of black pepper, spices and savory/meaty notes. Wonderful aromatic complexity. Full bodied and bursting with peppered dates and figs backed up with some brooding plummy fruit. Medium acidity, and soft tannic structure. This is a mouth coating, delicious big wine. The finish shows plenty of intensity and some red fruit. Lovely stuff!

Coudoulet Retrospective. A favorite of the tasting, the 2006 Coudoulet is in a nice spot for drinking now. Modern styled, raspberry, black cherry, but with more oompf to the mid-palate than 2005. The wood is a bit heavy in this vintage.

Deep and dense, the Mouvedre component really shows here on the smokey, licorice flavored back palate. Still taut, with good minerality and spice. Still tastes just about as fresh as the year it was released, I'd extend the drinking window on this one to 2010. Delicious.

Really showing well at 5 years old - the nose is breathtaking, strong notes of Liquorice perhaps from the Mourvedre component, and delicious Grenache fruit with smoky Syrah. Really complex - lifted and vibrant. Delciously smooth palate - Coudoulet is such a great buy, it rarely disappoints.

Now this is what I was expecting; good fruit, beef broth, garrigue, medium depth of fruit and black tea. Right now, unless it is corked, the 2006 is my favorite of the last few vintages. I don't think it will last as long as 2005 or 2007, but it's nice right now.

WS Vancouver Offline (Vancouver): Ruby color, coffee and dark fruits on the palate. Very creamy mid palate with medium acidity. The finish was dry and somewhat rough. After a while there also a hint of minerality, and some sea salt and freshness I usually found in white wines. Great overall, will pick up some 07 in LWS.

WS Offline (Vancouver, BC): Popped the cork, and let sit open in the bottle for 2 hours prior to tasting. Dark plum, cranberry, tart red cherry, and dark fruits on the nose. Dense on the palette, showing cassis, sweet cherry, and bitter dark chocolate. Very tannic, with a lot of stuffing and acidity. This is drinking well this young, but would benefit nicely from a couple years in the cellar. Very nice

really opens with air, revealing richness and a mid-weight body, scents of raspberries, cherries and peppercorn, fresh at this stage, shows a bright acid edge, juicy dark fruit, earth and a slight coffee bean finish, masculine, savoury, should be versatile with heavier foods, especially red meat, decant, cellar, drink, whatever you want to do with these

Lunch with Pierre Perrin, Chateau Beaucastel (Chez Patrick, 26 Peel Street, Central, Hong Kong): Dark blood red, semi-transparent colour. Classic rich fruity Cotes Du Rhone nose but still full of young and primary notes such as box-wood. Similar on the palate. Enjoyable and clearly very well made. Served as an aperitif but this really needed a mid-week evening meal of spaghetti bolognese or beouf bourguignon to give it context.

Downtown Dan Beats Cancer! (Konte's): Alongside '05 and '07. The lighter of the three showing more grenache qualities. Wild strawberries, fresh herbs, and balanced acidity. Still a fantastic representation of CdR with cherry and plum fruit flavors, spicey palate and lengthy earthy finish. This bottle was a little smoother and rounder than previous as it sheds a little rough acidity for more mature elements. This should age well for the next 5-10 years.

Dark cherry color that abruptly lightens toward the edges despite its youth. Bold and full-bodied with a bit more alcohol than you'd expect from the French. Full of character at the onset; lifted but light; with gobs of ripe cherry, cassis, red licorice, vanilla and coffee. Tannins tighten up after some time upon tasting despite being opened for 30 mins. This needs an hour of decanting at the right temperature (18ºC). Drink from 2010 to 2016.

A deep ruby-red colour, very pleasant. Distinctive Rhone nose of red cherry and raspberry with an earthy warm note through it. Also plums and black cherries, and a slight menthol hint (?). Really very good. Delicious, intense palate: inky black fruit and eucalyptus. Fascinating in that the wine (i.e. fruit) lands straight on the palate, with no hint of oak really. Unusual for such a flavoursome wine. I understand this wine is given only 6-8 months in oak post malo. Now that I double-check, the nose betrays no oak notes either. Nevertheless the entry is lovely and creamy and not all at thin. Very flavoursome through the midpalate and onto the finish - tar, black plum, figs, menthol. Tannins hidden beautifully, finish is long and powerful. This is very well put together, and dangerously easy to drink. Good balance of components suggests it can be cellared, although it is drinking well now. Really excellent at this pricepoint.

The first 2 bottles from a case, each consumed straight from bottle. Nose of red cherries, redcurrants, the spice of the oak is also present but not overpowering. Fruity aromas, but very dry (no sweetness). Palate is similar - dry red fruits (cherry etc) but not sugary. Also a savoury, almost herbal twist (Chianti-like), maybe some pepper. Tannins well hidden till the end. Not very acidic - how will the remaining 10 bottles last?? Good finish. Lovely.

Very old-world feel here. Licorice-tinged rustic nose. Underbrush. Palate is soft, supple, features licorice and blackberry fruit. Drinking nicely now. We killed the bottle in an hour with three people. '07 is on everyone lips, but '06 is grooving right now.

After a 2 hour decant, this opened up and came through as a dry, tannic wine, with nose of bacon fat and ripe red fruits and limited notes on the palate; some charcoal and faint spice and smokiness on the dry finish. A good wine with meat stew. 87-88
Update: The next day, after vacuum corkage, this was still drinkable, but it wasn't very smooth; rather it was rough and tannic, like a wine the Gaules would drink. Disappointing. 84

A Whirlwind Tour of France (Ross's Condo, New Orleans): I've now had three vintages of this stellar CdR rouge - 1998, 2005, and 2006 - all in 2009. The 2006 is old school, and I love it. Garrigue, spice, less imposing jam, and a stellar finish which rolls on seamlessly. This may actually age well for 5-10 years, but is drinking phenomenally now. WOTN for me.

Visually practically transparent like a pinot noir. Aeromatically this is very interesting; blackberry, cedar & forest floor. On the palate it is a lighter wine, but it has great balance. This is a very easy (and fun) drinking old world Rhone. I'll definitely buy more of these...

Lovely, excellent Rhone blend that was intense, yet elegant and will only get better with age - Brick red, medium bodied with notes of cherry, leather, plum, spice and vanilla on the nose, well structured and balanced, great fruit intensity, sweet on the palate with excellent length (90 Points).

Philadelphia Wine Festival (Marriott, Philadelphia PA): exceptional value. I will have to seek out the 07 given the CdR reputation. Harvested across the st. from Beaucastel according to the rep. a much shorter finish than the CdP, but the palate is quite nice.

Beautiful rich nose of cherry, loam, mushroom. Cherry dominates for fruit, though with hints of strawberry and fig. Other elements might overpower the fruit, however, especially copper, tobacco, and dark chocolate. Great mouth feel and good finish. I prefer slightly more upfront fruit, but this is a fine example of a less effusive CdR.

Tasted side by side with the 2005... The 2005 has much more jamminess, and perhaps ageability, and would appeal to more mainstream wine drinkers. The 2006, however, is old school, and I love it. Garrigue, spice, less imposing jam, and a stellar finish. This may actually age well for 5-10 years, but is drinking phenomenally now.

I might be underestimating my score. This wine is extremely smooth with solid balance light tannins and just enough spice. Some tobacco but lacks some of the fruitiness I like but it may open up more after decanting. Nice cherry, Iron as mentioned by others with a certain 'tame' minerality. Just a tad light in the body and legs but pretty solid for a cotes du rhone. Very nice with light red meat, lamb, etc. Great value at 18.95.

This is an exceptional value. Nose of ripe cherry, blood, iron, thyme and mineral. Palate has some zip with mouthwatering acidity and fine tannin. Palate with plenty of cherries, hint of strawberry, asian spices, and mineral with medium to long length finish with good complexity. Iron earth, leather and hint of tar coming through on the finish. Great mouthfeel and balance, really giving a transparent view of terrior. Fantastic QPR for <$20 and should improve over the next few years.I plan on picking up some more.

As someone who usually finds the Beaucastel CdP overrated and overpriced, I'm impressed with this. It really does taste much more like a CdP than a Cotes du Rhone. Not just that, it tastes like an old-school CdP, which I prefer. Really a great deal at under $22 a bottle. More complex on the 2nd day.

Dark red with even concentration of color. Slightly pink at the meniscus. The nose has nice ripe fruit with scents of raspberry, strawberry, and other red fruits. Also a little smoke, alcohol, pepper, and herbs. The palate is medium weight with moderate tannin, good acids, nice sweet fruit, overall good balance and structure. The finish has nice sweet fruit but at this stage is a bit simple and short. Best to wait a few years before drinking but this drinks well now and I think will go for 5 to 10 years.

Stumbled onto at my local costco for $20. A damn steal at this price- Year in and year out one of my favorite CDR's along with Charvin, St Cosme, and a few others. 06 is no exception. Very cliche, but this is basically a baby CdP. Some spice and herbs on the nose, good red fruit palate (plum and raspberry for me) with plenty of acid. The 06 can stand a year or two in the cellar to round out some tannins and integrate a bit more.

Nice strawberry-hue color, med-light wine, with nose of cherries and raspberries. Black pepper coming in on the palate. Medium structure. A very nice drinking wine.

Very nice. Notes of spice. Does evolve somewhat in the glass. Good everyday drinker.

The Eighth Annual Philadelphia Wine Festival (Philadelphia Marriott Downtown): This is really nice. Good spicy nose, smooth on the palate and a surprisingly good finish. This looks to be a tremendous value and one to keep an eye on.

Still incredibly impressed at the quality of this for the price. Crisp up front acidity, should integrate in the future. Great spice and herbal notes. Consistent with prior note.

$20 at costco. great QPR.
some spices on the nose. fruity on the palate, medium finish. smooth and easy to pair with food/cheese.
still have 2/3 bottle left - to try tomorrow.
next day - smoothed out more, but some of the flavor was lost.
Had with Mimolette cheese. good pairing

Deep dark red/black. Blackcurrant, earthy nose - strong tannins, balancing acidity, delicious blackcurrant palate, long and complex. Evolved beautifully over several days - lovely to drink now, but will keep for ages.
