1st night opened, and I don't know if I was just in a gewurz mood, or what, but this just hit every note perfectly right on the get-go. One of the best gewurz's I've ever had - it was just spectacular and even better than previous 2 bottles. Phenomenal with tikka masala. Lost its vibrancy over 2 days in fridge, corked, but still quite yummy. What a terrific wine. Bonnie loved it, too. Have to search out some more from this producer and see if they are still making such wonderful wine. What a steal at auction for under $20.

Dark golden color due to age. Quite concentrated. Really powerful nose of honey, melon, and flowers. Palate a bit more subdued. Would have liked a little more acid on this.

Terrific gewürztraminer. Bought at auction 8 years ago and in my cellar since. Now just getting around to opening. I am, admittedly, a big fan of gewurztraminers in the ZH style. This is not quite as sweet, and has a bit more minerality and litheness relative to many of the ZH wines. One of those wines that screams sweet and yet has dryness on the palate. Classic gewurz lychee and tropical fruits. Rich, but not cloying. Hint of rosewater. just yum. I'd buy more of these if I could. This was a steal at less than $20 I paid.
Drinking really well. Stone fruits on the nose, a little reminding me of a Riesling. Honey and melon on the palate. Drinking well and has a long drinking window.

Light golden color. Very spicy on the nose with notes of honey, ginger, baking spice, florals, honeysuckle and waxy fruit. Very intriguing nose. Unfortunately not as good on the palate with some honeyed apple flavor, florals and lots of spice on the palate. Acidity is medium- at best and with 15% abv and all of that flavor, it just comes across a bit harsh. I think this wine should have been consumed a few years ago but it was not bad as many of the other notes would seem to indicate.

Loved it in 2011 but just like it now. Golden yellow and a fantastic complex nose of flan, marmalade, and butterscotch. You also get this nice Christmas spice on the nose. Unfortunately, on the palate it just lies there...flat. (what a tease) It lacks in acidity and just kind of sits in your mouth. But man I can sit and smell it all day long! Food does help but can't overcome a wine that is past its prime. Oh well.

A tasting of Rieslings, Sauvignon Blancs, and other random whites. (Northport): This is not a wine; it is an abomination. The group decided unanimously that I must be an evil sadist for including it in the lineup. They are correct, but I now have confirmation that I am not alone in my despising/hating/loathing this "wine." Because I hate myself, I tried it over several days and once--once, and for only a second--found something that wasn't vile.
The pinnacle of Alto Adige / Südtirol Gewürztraminer, drinking fantastic right now. Gold straw in color, noticeably viscous around the edges with traces of suspended sugars. Nose is so complex, tropical fruit, shale, guava, mango, apricots both fresh and dried, roses, lychee. Taste has a hint of sweetness, almost like a simple sugar, but less than Alsace equivalents, with persisting minerality and the reduction of tropical fruit. Almost no hint of age in nose or taste, just richness and complexity. Lasts forever. Perfect pairing with blue cheese, almost like a half-Sauternes. But easier since it's much less alcohol. Outstanding. This is the way to enjoy Gewürz.

With several years of time, this wine has settled down into a beast that doesn't outright suck. This wine is from when Gary Vay-ner-chuk entered his most cynical phase (titled Cinderella Wine) trying to see if his cult of personality can sell ice to eskimos, or Gewurtztraminer from Alto Adige to the masses. Deep gold. Candied lychee on the nose. Rich, full-bodied spicy lychee and dried apricot, with a finish of bitter artificially-flavored generic tropical fruit, like a Exotic Flavor Fruit Loops. It is very simple, fruity with a drop of spice, and a finish that fades into a slightly-offputting bitterness.

In my "Summer of Whites", this wine deserves a special note. Among all the Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs, and Rieslings, nothing stands out as quite so distinctive as a great Gewürztraminer. My tasting notes are the same as the bottle I enjoyed a year ago. The look, the legs, the aromas and the palate are still scrumptiously charming.

Deep gold color and with great legs, the nose on this wine is still amazing. Florals, spices, cream...it has it all. The palate on this wine seems to have suffered with age a bit and seems to have lost a little freshness. Early on, in particular, the palate has a good deal of both heat and bitterness on the finish. After a day of additional exposure and air, it smooths out a good deal. It is mouthfilling and still quite delicious, but not quite the stunner I have had in the past. This may be in a little bit of an adolescent phase, between the bright freshness of youth, but not yet having reached full maturity. I think this could get better. It's still a tremendous bottle right now, though, and it is well worth the $26 purchase price.

Rich golden, orange tinged color that exhibits a very creamy, almost oily texture. Highly aromatic and perfumed nose that reflects orange blossom, and lots of pungent spiciness. This is a unique and interesting wine with a very intense palate showing considerable minerality, spicy tangerine, raw honey, and exotic tropical fruit flavors. The finish leaves the tongue dancing for what seems to be an eternity. This will pair very well with very spicy Asian food. Unfortunately my last bottle. :-(

Gorgeous aromatics on this wine! Lychees dominate, with slight hints of orange and minor toasted notes. The aromas carry through to the palate which adds in a nice layer of palate cleansing minerality. Paired with jamon serrano wrapped shrimp with Petite Basque and Idiazabal cheeses.

Luxuriant 24-carat gold color, with layered texture and medium legs. The nose emerges with blooms of daffodils and wildflowers. The palate opens with nectarines, peaches and pears, with a finish of honey mead over a flint core. Extravagantly endowed, voluptuously endearing.

Sunday Funday #Syrahvaganza (D-Rod's): Decanted short time. Golden color with a fair amount of crystallized sediment. Gorgeous nose of honey, spice and candied peaches with a little botrytis character coming through. Much drier than anticipated based on the nose, with classic Gewurz character. "Varietally correct" and complex with stone fruits and white pepper spice persistent from beginning to end. There's a little bit of heat that creeps in at the end (served at room temp) but a very good wine nonetheless.
Note from day 2...corked in fridge overnight. Nice gold hue. Enticing aroma of cinnamon and spice on peaches. Complex palate has honey, petrol, clove, apple, fig, orange, menthol. Not particularly food friendly, but very interesting. An intellectual wine.

Full medium yellow. Singing at the top of its lungs with gewurz-y exoticism, emphasizing the tropical side with mango, mangosteen, and lychee. Falls a little flat (almost an inevitability with this much alcohol and this little acid) on the palate but has enough flavor to manage. I see this more before or after dinner than during.

medium gold. On open, a very expressive note of lychee, apricot, guava, other tropical fruit, and clear alcohol. Over time, nose becomes more muted with less tropical fruit, more alcohol, and vegetal notes. However, the nose promises of a nice wine. Then, uggh.
A chicken stock with herbs, lettuce, tinny notes, a slight effervescence, bitter orange, alcohol, and pepper. Finish is unfortunately long, with more of the bitterness and tin. Medium acid. Medium body. Buttery, or, to be honest, an oily, soapy mess.
Unfortunately, this isn't just bottle variation. Fourth bottle, all consistently unpleasant.
i thought the nose was fresh cut grass with some green fruits. the taste a bit sweeter but had stong mineral notes, but on the fruitier side than minerally sid. close to my style of wine. respectful wine.

The lychee nose on this wine is absolutely stunning and the most gorgeous expression of that fruit I've smelt on any wine to this date. And then there's spices, floral perfume, lemon, and some crushed rock, even. Viscous on the palate, with a melange of tropical fruits, pepper, and some honey. A gewurtraminer on steroids! I just wish something could be done about that 15% ABV, because it does poke through somewhat. It would have been perfect otherwise.

OK, maybe this has lost something in the last half year, maybe this bottle just isn't as good, or maybe my palate isn't the same, but I just can't justify repeating my previous 96-point score on this wine. On the other hand, this still has a tremendous nose, great depth of flavor, and outstanding mouthfeel and smoothness. I guess a 93 will have to do. Very much worth the mid-$20s price point.

Very interesting bottle. Exotic nose of pineapple, some leechee, apricot, petrol. This wine could fool you for a dessert wine on the nose. Palate was even more incredible. Spectacular velvety, viscous mouth feel. Preserved lemon, apricot, mango with a 30 sec. long mineral finish. Beautiful sparkling yellow, gold color. Drinking beautifully now. Glad I have one more. Thank you Gary V.

Tasted at room temperature after decanting for about 5 hours. The nose had a very pleasant mix of lychee and petrol. There was also some citrus and tropical fruit, a little spice, and a bunch of honey at the end. The palate had the same flavors as the nose. I didn't really notice the 15% alcohol, and although there is no residual sugar, it did have a sweetness to it.

Striking light golden yellow color. Nose similar to Viogner or Torrontes, floral, lemon pledge, but with a little petrol, lots of corriander. Flavor is incredible. A little buttery, with a nice, viscous mouth feel. Lemony, spicy, a little sweetness (alcohol?). Corriander on the palate as well. Excellent, unusually interesting wine. Well worth it.

Great floral, fresh cut apples, and tropical fruit aromas--like passion fruit. On the palate, viscous and peppery--a little soapy and bitter too. I felt like I took a bar or fancy, aromatic soap and shoved it in my mouth. The alcohol content is far too high.
I'm not giving this wine a score because I haven't found a Gewurtz that I liked so I don't think I have the right palate to score it justly.

Reminded me of the Mollydooker of white wines. OK, maybe it wasn't that bad. Gorgeous nose of buttered lychee and flowers. Intoxicating nose. In the mouth, an absolutely massive attack. Shocked me at first the shear power of the wine. Tons of exotic fruit with some good spiciness of clove and green pepper to back it up. The problem I had with this wine is that after 2 glasses, I was toast. Very high alc (15% as advertised, wouldn't be surprised if it was higer even still...), massive glycerine mouthfeel, which is slightly appealing, but after your first glass, it gets to be a little much. Can't drink more than one glass at a time. Almost dessert wine like. Not necessarily sweet, but you do get a bit of RS, but it is balanced very nicely, but just seems too high on the alcohol to really have more than one glass. Fantastic experience though. First time ever having an Italian Gewurz and it certainly started off with a bang.
Another stellar experience with this wine. Paired it with spicy thai, which seems risky given the high alcohol/no residual sugar. But it went famously. I think it's important to keep it at perhaps a cooler-than-normal temperature to lower the sensation of alcohol on the palate. It does have an alcoholic bite to it, but that same alcohol gives it a more full-bodied and oily sensation on the palate that I very much enjoy.
The nose is just amazing, layer of perfumed fruit and spice, can't get enough. Tropical fruits, spice, touch of pepper attack the tongue, surprisingly viscous, almost like a dessert wine in mouth feel, extremely dry, no sweetness, finishes with a waxy greenness and some bitterness. Unlike any other gewurz I've had. Unfortunately, the alcohol is out of control on this one, it was really noticeable. I would gladly trade a little RS to have a little lower abv on this one. I really alternated between loving this and hating it because of the high alcohol.
Light golden color. The nose came across as very spicy and almost hop like as if I was smelling a crisp, hoppy beer. Alcohol was also a touch too noticeable. It did not have the flavor and touch of sweetness that I picked up last time. Still a nice wine but not as good as my previous experience.

Light golden color. Very expressive nose with honey, tropical fruit, pepper and sweet spice aromas galore. Enjoyable to just smell this wine. Similar flavor profile on the palate with medium+ to high acid and a touch of sweetness on the back end. Long finish. A really well made wine and a versatile one to use with food pairings. Was incredible with sweet, jumbo lump crab meat.

Deep, deep, golden in color, this wine had perhaps the most amazing nose I've ever had in a white wine. Buttercream frosting, coriander, cumin, gooseberry, honey, and cream of tartar were all present, along with perhaps a hint of white flowers. On the palate, there was honey, cinnamon, green tea, lime, perhaps some cantaloupe and just a drizzle of butter. The texture was incredibly smooth and mouth-filling. The early finish was a bit too strong of petrol for my taste (or maybe bitter lime peel), and that remained a consistent characteristic even after some time in the glass. Otherwise, this would have been even better. When paired with Asian food, even this slight flaw was masked. The finish smoothed out after some time in the mouth, and the flavors lingered for a good long time. Mouth coating and gorgeous, this wine was simply spectacular, and well worth the $40 asking price.

When first open & chilled, this was a bit muted and the 15% alcohol really bared some ugly teeth. Air and some time in the glass changed this wine quite a bit. My note is from it's better side.
Very perfumey nose with rosewater, a little honey, obvious melon & lychee, a touch of juicy pear. Quite fragrant and feminine. Tasting brings these feminine flavors, juicy white tropical fruits, and some sweetness. Transition presents adequate acid, good juicy sweetness, and a medium finish that has light white fruit & tropical floral flavors. Nice wine, although it shows some alcohol late in the midpalate & could use a little more acidic backbone.
I especially enjoyed the full body brought about by the sweetness matched against the great floral tones. This went well with moderately spicy Thai & sushi dishes.

I assume (hope) that this bottle is flawed. On the first night, slightly effervescent, bitter, oily, with nondescript citrus and some off-putting, non-Gewurtz spice. Second and third days, strong bitter grapefruit, harsh acidity, though more floral, lychee, and citrus varietal notes. Did not improve over the next week. Reserving score (70) -- have several more bottles.

Explosive Gewurz nose, intriguingly intense golden color. The palate is drier than the nose would suggest, very high in alcohol and feels very weighty--almost an oily mouthfeel and a definite oily finish with a strong hit of spice and very good acidity. The fact that I could feel the alcohol a little too much on the mid-palate was my only gripe on this wine, but that faded on the second night. I wouldn't re-buy at 40, but at 20 dollars this was a no-brainer.

Impressive. Hits all the right notes and won't break the bank. Interesting little acid/floral component on the back end. A steal at under $20. I liked the fact that it wasn't overpoweringly spicy, as I have trouble pairing Gewurz with food. This one will be easy.

Different than anything I have had so scoring is hard. Intense nose that blew me away, I loved it. Very floral with slight rose sent coming through. Golden color and medium slightly oily body. Slightly bitter on the finish which dissapeared with air and food. I had this with spicy Thai and it went wonderfully, not sure if I would have enjoyed without food.

No rating because I don't know my whites, so take this review from the perspective of someone who typically requires heavy tannins in his wine. Tremendously fruity nose gives way to an oily, spicy palate that's heavy in alcohol. On the first night I tasted a little too much alcohol on the attack and I didn't especially like it. But I tried it on the second night and it was much more balanced and overall enjoyable. Not a wine I would drink with no food--too heavy and slightly bitter on the finish for that.

{ST} Color golden yellow, clear, medium-light body. Gorgeous nose, an effusive floral complex of gardenias, daisies, lychee, pineapple, citrus zest, ginger spice and honey. On the palate a restrained sweetness of pineapple, apricot, and pear fruits well mixed with slate and minerals and some sea mist. Bouyant acid level. Overall very delicious, and my only complaint is that the concentration of fruit flavors seemed lighter than I expected from the fantastic bouquet, and relatively short finish did not help. OK value at 40.

Yellow gold. Intensely sweet nose, apricot, pineapple, lemon peel, crushed rock. Burst of apricot and pear on the palate, a hint of pralines and cream, then crushed rock, tart lemon peel comes in strong on the back end, even gets a little bitter rind, but the acid gives it a great lift. This is tremendous; for my palate it has all the flavor of a sweeter alsace gewurtz but the finish is quite dry, with well integrated acid throughout. Terrific balance. 15% abv but I'm currently (probably unsuccessfully) trying to keep myself from finishing the bottle.

Full medium yellow. Singing at the top of its lungs with gewurz-y exoticism, emphasizing the tropical side with mango, mangosteen, and lychee. medium gold.
