Same as previous notes, however this bottle must have had some secondary fermentation as it was slightly fizzy on opening. This disappeared on night 2.

Wet sawdust, strawberry, meats, a touch of smoke on the nose. Palate is smooth, soft, dominated by ripe cherry, with the sawdust and smoke underneath. A little acidic bite before the decently long, floral finish.

Spicy Salmon Food Pairing Face-Off Challenge! (Our Home): Food pairing face-off challenge! I picked two wines in my cellar that were recently mentioned in an advanced tasting note search as pairing nicely with a salmon dish.
Opened 45 minutes before being paired with a Jamaican jerk-seasoned Atlantic salmon skewer finished with spicy tomato vinaigrette, wild rice pilaf, and green beens. Served in a Riedel Vinum XL pinot noir glass. A medium+ ruby on appearance, the bright nose features cherry, raspberry, forest floor and a touch of both pink pepper and brett. Stood up to the spicy salmon dish very well. Ample acidity, medium+ intensity and concentration, and a 20+ second finish. Was very food friendly, and won out in comparison to the 2007 Col Solare that was opened at the same time. Have now enjoyed multiple vintages of this inexpensive bottle!

Very good, aged well and drinking just right now. Grenache syrah, 14% alc. Colour: deep ruby Bouquet: rich sweet red fruits, spicey Palate: as bouquet, big soft tannins and soft powerful body, supple long clean finish with white pepper, cherry oak and developed fruit characters January 2017

Part of a four-year single-blind vertical of Ch. Pesquie Terrasses (07, 09, 11, 12). Pour #3. Barely translucent throughout core, but seems a dimmed hue, a bit browner of red? My lighting was very poor. Quite a lot different than prior pours (later revealed as '09 and '12), evolved, leather with lots of bonfire smoke. A touch farty. The acidity is vibrant and its structure is very integrated, tannin almost completely melted. Though the evolution is very clear, it is interesting than this comes across as nearly the fruitiest of the group. A big divergence between the nose and palate. Signs of age on the finish, with everything drying out a little bit. Thought it to be the '09 because of the amount of fruit and ripe vintage elements (softness) revealed to be '07.

The color was still a deep red, but on opening it smelled and tasted oxidized, and there was very little fruit. After an hour the off taste had diminished, but wasn't entirely gone. I was tempted to pour it out, but saved it and tried it again the next day. It was much improved with considerable Grenache character.

Tasting note from most recent previous entry was right on - round, soft, smooth. I'm getting hints of spice on, then off, then on again. Doesn't seem faded or oxidized, but doesn't have lots of depth or secondary notes either. This is all based on the first glass from the pop-n-pour, I'm hoping the second glass gains some nuance, but even if not, it's tasty.

Hmmm, CT drinking window says drink by 2012, but with just a few days left, this thing is still doing fine; was definitely better the second day. Fruit might have faded a bit since the last one I had (if I'm remembering right) ... but it's still balanced and tasty.

Maybe the best QPR ever. Complex and refined. Drinking beautifully right now. Read gcarl's notes from Sept. I can't describe it better. Happy I have 4 more bottles. And thanks to Ian @Wine Lib for insisting I buy a case 3+ years ago.

Opened 2 bottles on consecutive nights w/different guests and used Vinturi into glasses for first pours because of other CT comments re:"spritziness". OUTSTANDINGLY good Rhone, which could easily pass for an upscale older CdP (which was the second bottle served on night two). Lovely fruit, lavender, leather on the nose. Delicate mature fruit on the palate, with soft tannins and a medium long finish. This wine provides real pleasure at an incredible value. Guests all loved it.

Nose of cut grass, oak, mint and parsley and thyme. Rich, deep taste on the tongue with some menthol and spices. A very lovely wine not only for the price. We tend to drink the whole bottle when we open this.

Aromas of red berry fruit, baking spices, leather and garrigue. Fairly resolved tannins with good acidity and signs of secondary notes. Nicely balanced overall with fairly good length. In a good place now and I would probably recommend drinking within the next couple of years. Paired well with a meaty pan roasted sturgeon and ratatouille.

Another tasty bottle. Very well integrated excellent for mid-week sipping. Some hint of spritzines that disappears after 15min in a glass but all the meatiness, cherries and spices are there. Very little tannins this time. if you have some I recommend drinking up, this is in a good stage. Unfortunately this was my last bottle from the case. 89+

Opened for about 2 hours before pouring. Nose of black pepper, methol, wet tobacco and a hint of herbs. The taste is a spicy mix of black pepper, dried cherry and earth. 20 - 30 second finish. This is a fine QPR and tastes very consistent with the bottle I had in August of 2011. An excellent wine, an excellent bargain and a great defender of the cellar!

Very nice. Meaty, beefy with dark fruits on the nose, palate is similar of dense dark fruits, hints of bitterness and well integrated tannins. Good on PnP but then it tightens a bit after few hours. The best bottle from the case so far, only one left... 89-90-

Oak, lavender, kirsch, leather and a bit of menthol on the hot nose. It's 'only' 14% abv, but the nose seems hotter. It's a big wine on the palate, with a rather tasty mix of leather, barnyard, kirsch, and herbs. It's a very tasty wine, and as countless others have noted, quite a QPR. Tastes great at 4 years after the vintage; the back label recommends drinking within 5 years, though I can't make a real judgement on further aging. Right now it's easily Very Good to Excellent.

Very good for the price: lots of blood and tar with some nice underlying fruit. Really like the nose. Very substantial tannins. Unfortunately this was gone before it was really allowed to open. I'd guess 90+ had we decanted first and/or gave it some time to develop. Excellent QPR.

The initial aroma made me wonder if the bottle was corked, but it quickly turned to a nice peppery cassis. On the palate the hints of pepper remained strong and pleasant as well as the cassis. This tastes like a good CdP. I love this wine.

gorgeous wine from cote du ventoux/southern rhone! rich, full bodied and beautifully textured. tons of black and blue berries, a touch of red fruit perhaps, spice and some smokiness. the old vine grenach-20 and 80-syrah blend is so beautiful--dense and opaque, some vanilla and toastiness, richly layered. loved it.

I really need to move these away from the 05's...grabbed by mistake again but it was probably a good thing. Very hard to believe how much this has developed in just a couple of months. This leaps out of the glass and screams BABY CHATEAUNEUF! Beautiful wine with tons of structure and layer after layer of flavor.

Grabbed this 2007 by mistake. Meant to get the 2005. This is very closed right now. Opened some in glass but really needs a couple more years before it will be ready to revisit.

This is a difficult wine to score....I just finished the 2005 which is drinking beautifully. This has a bit more structure and tannin. The nose on Pesquie always makes me think "baby Chateauneuf du Pape". Tons to think about here. I feel this wine needs 2-3 more years before it shows its true colors. No question it's amazing but just not as well balanced as the 2005 currently.
One of my favorite producers!

consistent notes with past. would agree with the comment that the weight and depth of the wine increases with 1-2 hours of air. will absolutely buy again.

Note basically as before, though even for 2 hours of air before consuming this was very bright and sufficiently young to make my molar fillings ache. This also had a touch of secondary fermentation, and was certainly not overly ripe. This was a decent if underperforming match for spicy pork spareribs. I hope that more bottle age improves the profile a little.

Give this wine a couple hours of air. Upon opening, it was thin and disappointing. After a couple of hours, it presented a much riper medium to full bodied profile. A great QPR.

Wow after drinking this vintage the last time in May and then consuming 5 or 6 of the '08 vintage I now see a real difference between the two. This wine was bold and full of earthy, mineral flavors that spoke of a wine 2-3 times the price. This bottle had that complexity found in the '07 vintage that is missing from the '08. When I found that I paid under $10 for the '07 bottles the QPR is amazing. Too bad this was my last bottle and the shelves are cleaned out of the '07s at my local stores.

Good stuff. I think this has a few more years left in it, but will not make very old bones. So what, at this price it drinks great right now. Lots of raspberry/cranberry fruit in an easy drinking package. Not a lot of complexity, but thats ok.

Great value for easy drinking, enjoyable with cheddar/parmesan cheese souffle' & salad. Has improved since last tasting which was probably late '09. I need to drink more of my 2 case supply while it is at this stage, and then perhaps hold several bottles for 2x/yr tasting over a few more years.

First four bottles from a case. First two entirely consistent. Quite deep ruby with purple tinted rim. Nice primary fruits of the forest nose, perhaps more black shaded than red, but good complexity at this level. Rich on the palate with perhaps more red than black here. Good acid balance keeps this surprisingly fresh for a Southern Rhone. Nice texture and good simple tannin structure. Decent length. Very good for what it is. Might go further, but why not enjoy it for what it is? Third bottle hideously corked and fourth heavily reduced with a little spritz. Hmmm.

Really like this wine, wish I had bought a case instead of just 4 bottles. I was getting some nice floral notes on the nose and what I like is the complexity in this wine that reminds you of something much more expensive.

Deep ruby color. Nose of red fruits and flowers with some background funkiness and some coffee aromas that came and went. As always, a good wine with some complexity. Update: after 24 hours in a .375 this is looking better, more focused red berry notes, better presence on the palate. Raising the score a point. I still think these need a little more time.

Consensus has this score. It's dark red with a hint of purple. Still semi-clear. Floral cherry, blood orange, and crimson quince. This has some nice mouthfeel, and good body. The Cherry really comes through, with some oak tinting the profile. No pepper. This is very food friendly wine. Would have a again.

This really needed air. Lots of funk on the nose upon opening but after 90 minutes it gave way to some nice pepper and leather notes. Still a little tight on the palate would do well with another year or two in the bottle. Nice Southern Rhone everyday drinker a lot more interesting than most $11 dollar bottles of wine.

Popped, poured, let breathe 90 minutes, consumed over next 48 hours with vacuum seal between tastings. Nose: Cassis, pencil shavings, black licorice, yogurt and hints of vanilla & mint, on the palate: Layers of black and red fruit, lead pencil shavings, baking chocolate with some grapefruit. Fruit forward, a bit acidic, soft grippy finish. Medium bodied, clean, tangy, nice intensity, succulent. Enjoyable medium finish. Very solid mid-week bottle. Give it lots of air.

A real nice solid effort and a steal at this price. I was able to catch a whiff when my wife put her glass down on the table. This has the bright raspberry taste on the palate that I associated immediately with Grenache. This is much preferred to the many over-oaked industrial wines that flood the market in this price range. Like another taster commented, good mid-week bottle.

Opens with a rich, fruity nose, flows to the palate with rasberry, floral and some garrique herbal notes, leaving a short to medium finish. The grenache/syrah blend lacks minerality and depth, but is made in a lush cafe-style, typical of much of the area, that implies high-yield vineyards with good technical winemaking to offset. Not among our favorite southern Rhone styles, but will appeal to many.

Solid ruby purple throughout. Very attractive if somewhat primary on the nose with notes of black cherry, blackberry, spices, and hints of underbrush and leather. Good fruit presence with flavors of red currant, dark berries, and garrigue. The tannins are firm, there is fresh acidity lifting the fruit, and the finish is sweet and somewhat bright. Could use a little more character and elegance but it is a very solid value.

This wine is one of my true bargain basement favorites. I purchase two cases while they lasted in early June and have not been disapointed for my enthusiasm. This vintage is one of the better produced by this quality Rhone Valley estate. The wine has a beautiful dark ruby color, a wonderful rich nose and a spicey, zesty, mildly tannic, fruit flavor. I probably should have waited a bit before finishing the cases but after opening the first bottle, I could not.

I have gone thru a bunch of these in the last month. LAways better on Day 2 or 3 IMO. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has raspberries, violets and leather. Some tannins. It takes some time to come together. Disjointed out of the bottle, but much better on Day 2. This is on sale locally and well worth around $15 a bottle.

I can see why Jancis liked it: the tannins are v refined, and the prominent black pepper is not so much ground as powdered. Sweet, broad fruit, of a character of how I imagine 'cherry Cool-ade' to taste! Fortunately the pepper then comes up from below it as well; ie tannins moderating what's close to over-sweetness. Easy to drink: relatively a wine to avoid with meat dishes - leave that for the proper heart, black varietals! This is for the likes of pizza and simple tomato pasta. 88 to 89, 88.

This wine is delicious now. However, the bret-funk has started overwhelm this wine and I doubt it will age particularly well. Given the density, richness of fruit, and aromatics, I would have been really excited about this wines long-term potential. However, I think the bret is already overwhelming things and am not sure that this wine willl get any better.

Opened and served right away. Very ripe and fruity nose. Some oaky notes as well. Reminds me of berry juice. Solid acidity, low to medium tannin and medium body. Medium length finish that gives a bit of heat. This has much more ripe and artificial fruit flavours compared to the ‘06 which I enjoyed much more then this ‘07. I can see how many people would like this but it's not a style I care for. Drink or hold. Average.

A clear medium ruby in the glass, this southern Rhone wine from a sterling vintage had a nose of bright cherries, cranberry, and subtle spices. The palate featured a medium-bodied wine with bright red berries, a subtle array of spices, and just a hint of funkiness. This opened up after 30 minutes by becoming softer and a touch more elegant, and very refreshing. My wife really liked this, a bit more than I, and it was a good match for Irish lamb neck pieces stew. Excellent value at the $12 that it is available for on the 'net.

Decented 30 mins, consumed over 2 hours. Not as good as past vintages. Tight nose, some herbal notes and faint cherry-strawberry aromas. Some of the strawberry, pepper and herbal notes, but this was a bit thin and tart, with an extremely short finish. Hardly any fruit compared to my recollection of past vintages, or compared to others' noted on this vintage...

Red in the glass - less purple than many other CDRs I've had recently. In fact there was less of a lot of stuff than in the other 07 CDRs I've had. This is still good, but lighter in style. I suppose that if you preference is NOT for fuller bodied wine, that could push this to 90 points.
Red berries on nose and palate. Medium body and a little acidity makes this more of a food wine than the other more cocktail like palate busters from 2007. Good wine and unbeatable at the price. Well, almost.

Popped and poured - took about 30 minutes in the glass to open up. On the nose, spice box, and some ripe black fruit. On the palate, red fruit (perhaps some black cherry), spice, herbs, with good acidity. It would definitely pair better with food. Pencil lead, dark fruit and herbs on the nose. Light in body and fairly soft tannins, dark fruit. Went well with Lazy Lady goat cheese and some figs. Not quite as complex as the 2006 but nice for the price. Vinturied but still was better with 30 minutes of air. Will let the other 2 sit for a year.

Certainly a disappointment, considering my high marks for the 04, 05 and 06, but very young yet. Super acidity and firm tannins could ease out with a little time, but I'm not sure that the fruit is there for this to be an ager. Even so, other vintages had great garrigue, dirt and hints of brett out of the gate and nice round, ripe fruit that made for complex, interesting wines - I just don't see that here - yet. There is a side note of anise and mint that is new to this wine. I cracked this the day it came home, so I'm withholding rating until I have a chance to try one that has rested a bit.

This vintage had more garrigue and earth than previous ones. In fact, I would have thought someone switched it with Domaine La Garrigue which normally has it, but not in 07. The Pesquie was more of the Old World style in 07 with the garrigue and less oak and more red fruit rather than the darker fruit I often get from this. Not what I expected, but a pleasant surprise. A great QPR at the price, as usual, just a different style this vintage

Apparently WL is sold out and folks are clamoring for more. However given my last three lackluster experiences with this, I decided to forget about letting my last bottle sleep. Respi-Aerate to decanter, occasional vigorous swirling for 30 min. The dark ruby color is really quite nice and promises something delicious. Very little nose initially - mild strawberries, raspberries, and garrigue. The taste is just as it was for previous bottles - thin on fruit and tannic, just has I have noted and so have other reviewers. In fact the red sauce on my pasta is more interesting and does not help the situation (82). A couple hours later, this wine has come alive with more of everything. Fairly big nose of plums, ripe strawberries, raspberries, garrigue, smoke, and even a little kirsch. The dark fruit on the palate is quite good, with some depth and richness that places this a notch or two better than the '06, good spice and minerals, and there is better balance with fruit versus tannins (89). Although I'm thankful this emerged from being closed down, I still can't get over the fact that the previous bottles didn't open up over 3-4 hours. Perhaps this will be consistently better after a year's rest, but I'm not going to expend any energy pursuing it. Score is the average.

Smoke and tar. Palate is stony, a lot of pepper poking about, the grenache talking. This is lighter bodied, not a lot of fruit here, so if sappy fruit is your thing, look elsewhere. Kinda simple, but I like it for $10 on a Wed. night.

Purchased for $10. I'm starting to think I do not like these "custom cuvees for Eric Solomon". Popped and poured. The wine has a dark/deep purple color that faeds to light purple on the edges. On the nose, this exhibits floral scents along with strawberries, smoke, and a slight hint of raisins. On the palate, I was very disappointed with how light the fruit was. Hints of raspberries, herbs/leather and plum are all there... just very faint. The tannins are firm, so it could just be that the wine is in a dumb phase, although I would doubt that since the finish was extremely short as well. I had this over 3 hours and there wasn't much change. Overall, I'd say this is average.

Put a cork in half bottle remaining and let sit overnight. Second day was better in terms of more obvious red fruits in the nose and mouth, and the tannins are more relaxed. At this stage it is still at the low end of excellent and it seems there are other '07 Rhone similars in the 10-14 range that outperform it. Or maybe I'm just drinking from some bottles that are somehow in a dumb phase.

Aerate to glass and serve. This bottle showed much like the one we had two weeks ago. Nose was a bit more generous. Shy red fruits behind garrigue and black licorice, with a finish predominantly of dirt and black pepper. Tight overall, with some puckering tannins. Better with spaghetti bolognese. Will try the next bottle in 8 mo to a year.

Quite similar to the 2006, just a bit richer and more depth. In the glass, clear dark ruby red. On the nose, fresh ground pepper and stone fruit. On the palate, a fruit-forward wine with a soft texture, good acidity, fruit, and well-blended minerality. As with the 06, this is a great food wine, and a great QPR.

Bought a sample bottle, as they were on sale locally for the princely sum of $10/btl. Opened and poured into the decanter from cellar temperature. Consumed over several hours as it came towards room temperature.
The wine starts off with intense aromas of boysenberry and plum, with a strong woody backbone. The wood is a tad drying, lacking a rounded and integrated feel. The components feel a bit ajar, but not quite disjointed. The wine develops with air into a more subtle rasberry rhubarb notes as the wood seems to receed but never really envelopes the fruit in a well integrated fashion.
While a nice effort that plays amongst the best sub 10 dollar bottles in the world, I found that most 07 Entry Rhones hit home runs while this feels like a single. I'll take the Cuvee Romain for 2-3 bucks per bottle more anyday over this.

Perhaps an off bottle, but not flawed so I am scoring it what it earned. Vinturi-aerate to decanter, swirl and serve. Nose is reticent, with mild sweet strawberries and raspberries underneath a thin layer of garrigue - not much depth on the nose and that is a big disappointment. On the palate red raspberry with mildly bitter sour cherries, along with some herbs. Front to back this wine was wound tight, light on fruit, and finished with some drying tannins. Hours 2 to 4, it finally opens up, but also starts to fall apart, showing some kirsch and a distinctly roasted savory character, plus some licorice (nice) and herbs. The finish is short - just as noted by others here - with flavors of grilled tomato and dust. The tannins are firm and need perhaps 6mo to a year to relax. Based on this bottle this is the least generous Terrasses I have seen in the last four vintages and we are normally BIG fans of this wine. Will try another bottle in the next week, because based on legacy it certainly deserves another go. Right now I'm definitely not feeling the RP91.

On the nose, garrigue, spice, and good red fruit, esp. raspberry. In the mouth, a little tannin, a little heat, and good fruit and spice. For $10, a steal. Should get better for the next few years.

very nice wine that paired well with a puttanesca sauce. great nose that was brambly and a little funky/leathery. taste of red fruits, some sweet cherries, leather, anise. modest tannins, nice finish. will buy again.

Smoke, firewood, licorice, apricot and pear, strawberries and some oak with an earthy, tarry black fruit on the nose, kinda a Loire Valley Puzelat or a really good Beaujolais (not nouveau) but with a handful of raisins and bitter cherries. 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah, with some traces of Carignan and Cinsault. Deep purple, medium body, with rich black plum, blackberry and subtle hints of Moroccan leather on the mouth. Solid structure that will age well for the next 4-5 years. Pair with poultry (perfect for Thanksgiving dinner) and grilled meats. Delicate, elegant, exciting, glamorous; a female James Bond showing up unexpectedly in the middle of the night.

Deep ruby color. Bright nose of floral perfume and strawberries with some earthy funk that blew off over the first hour. Youthful tannins on the palate, meaty. Got better over ninety minutes. This needs a year or two more, I think, to come together fully, but it's very pretty now.

nose: nice nose with good tones of red fruits, red licorice, red cherries, and bits of anise. Though there is a nice variety of aromas to work with, there unfortunately is a simplicity to them that detracts a bit
taste: good, solid medium feel with tones of red currants, red fruits, red licorice and some red cherries. Nice bright red fruited based tones that is easy drinking
overall: comes across a bit more rhone then the 05 that I had, but I've had some CdRs that speak more of the rhone then this level of Pesquie. A real nice wine for the price if you are looking for an everyday drinker, but for me at least, it does lack a sense of geography

Candied red fruit nose & finish. Sweetish, plush, peppery entry, somewhat hollow middle, peppery finish. Typical kirsch note for this label absent. Disappointing given previous efforts & given the vintage. Perhaps in youthful awkward stage.

Colour: deep ruby
Bouquet: rich sweet red fruits, spicey
Palate: as bouquet, big soft tannins and soft powerful body, supple long clean finish with white pepper, cherry oak and developed fruit characters

Hmmm.

Red berries on nose and palate. Medium body and a little acidity makes this more of a food wine than the other more cocktail like palate busters from 2007. Good wine and unbeatable at the price. Well, almost.

Raspberry and cherry, mostly. Nice, not very complex, but I think a good value at under $12. Should be even better with a little more time.

very nice wine that paired well with a puttanesca sauce. great nose that was brambly and a little funky/leathery. taste of red fruits, some sweet cherries, leather, anise. modest tannins, nice finish. will buy again.

This disappointed a little. I've had previous vintages that were much better.
