PnP - Very nice, well rounded Chardonnay! Rich, golden fruit with apple, melon and spice, coupled with notes of saline and stone. In a very nice place for my palate, i.e., slightly fruit forward but nicely balanced with tertiary flavors. The wine is also nicely balanced with enough acidity to keep the fruit vibrant. Solid 95!
Guy's Night: Variety Pack (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Light golden color. Drank a glass over an hour. Pretty slate minerality, dry stone, pear, lemon, with a touch of brine. The palate follows the lead with a medium full bodied frame and blissful mineral notes, pear, lemon tart, fleshy nectarine, and saline on a long crystalline finish. This was a picture of purity and mineral focus, so well defined and balanced with an ultra elegant profile. 94+ to 95pts.

Medium gold in color. Shows buttered popcorn, toasted hazelnuts, orchard pit fruits, yellow citrus oils, hint of caramel. Palate gets much better as the wine gets more air - broad and rich with buttered peaches, nuts, yellow citrus, high acidity and a long perfumed finish. Just a nit of advanced flavors. The bottle opened in 2021 was spectacular.

This bottle started out dark gold but after decanting and letting it sit overnight it changed color to a medium yellow-gold and was fantastic. Round ripe fruit, but with sufficient acid to balance it. I recommend doing a long decant if you find a “premoxed” one of these. I should have waited on previous ones that were showing old. Maybe it wouldn’t have mattered but it certainly did for this one. Lovely bottle.

There we go. Finally a CC from Bouchard that delivers and convincingly conveying the story about what white Grand Cru Burgundy is all about. Oh my God. I wish I could afford drinking such wines more often...

A terrific bottle that is so fresh. Concentrated, dense orchard fruit with pin point balance and chiseled nuances. Always a great cru for Bouchard P&F.

White Burgundy study (2008 and 2014) (Chicago, IL): The last bottle of this that I tasted had some slight worrying brown apple notes; this bottle was clean as a whistle and could have passed for something a decade younger. If anything this was almost more electric and light on its feet than might be expected from Corton-Charlemagne. I was told this isn't typical for this wine, but this bottle was quite enthralling and had me thinking that I needed to put some of this bottling in my own cellar.

An excellent and fully mature bottle. Grand cru concentration of rich, candied orchard fruit with accents of marmalade and butterscotch but there is still plenty of freshness and zest to hold it all together. Fully mature and time to drink up.

Pale yellow in color. Gorgeous nose shows aromas of yellow citrus, ripe pears, lifted green herbs, wet stone, and yellow flowers. Intensely concentrated palate shows dense yellow fruits, a beam of citrus, tons of minerals, excellent acidity and a very long, saliva inducing finish with a dusting of mint. Excellent, and one more in the win column for aging these Bouchard CC's.

Another great bottle of the 08, and I believe it was the last from a case. Unlike Bouchard’s 07 C-C where about 1/3 of my bottles were premox or seriously advanced the 08s were all truly great. Looking at the notes here, it seems like only Burgundy Al & Nanda had a number of advanced bottles so I assume theirs was more likely a supplier/transport issue, and Bouchard had (largely) resolved the premox issue in 2008. Back to the wine, the 08 is really a great vintage for white Burgundy with very precise and crisp wines, at the same time very aromatic with well judged use of oak and excellent length. Drink or hold.

2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine. Half the bottles of our case had pre-mox. A good bottle: sharp mid-gold; stone fruit, citrus, floral, vanilla nose; mid-big body; good acids; long, lush, buttery finish. 17-17.5 UC Davis scale, 92-93 other scales.

Bottle in perfect shape; merely full straw color at 12 years in bottle; shy fresh nose of green apple, lanolin and citrus oil; after the gentle pleasing nose the palate punches you in the face with dry saline minerality, dry extract and laser beam acidity. With airing and warming the nose accentuates and the finish shows traces of melon and nuts, hints of oxidation calling for near term consumption. Looks like many pox’d and/or corked bottles out there but this was a gem. Crack ‘em now, no upside in waiting!!!

Dinner @ Entier: Light yellow, no premox! A highly intense and focus aromas of caramel popcorn intermixed with bright yellow fruits, thyme, white pepper and light flint. It has excellent intensity on the palate, very rich fruits and minerality, growing at the back with a little oak influence. The depth and structured suggested this is a grand cru to me. Doesn't has the buttery/creamy texture hence I thought this was a Corton Charlie, and the ripeness and lesser acidity, leads me to 2006 instead of 2008. Showing really well today. One of my favorite from Bouchard, and very good value.

Third bottle from a case, and another great showing. Unlike the 07 where I have had some premox bottles, and looking at all the notes here, it seems like Bouchard had the premox issue in 08 under control, which would be really great. Still a pale yellow in the glass. This is rich without being heavy or oily, well handled use of oak which is perfectly integrated, just a touch of sweetness. Good length.

50th Birthday Celebration...COVID Delayed (Northbrook, IL): This had been open and on the counter for an hour+ so had warmed up to a less-than-ideal temperature. Also lots of rich orchard fruit with both savory and sweet spice. Starts out nicely rich, ends with brighter textures.

A really great wine - in the nose you get citrus and pear - but not a very powerfull nose - on the palette the wine really gives you a great experience - it is filling your mouth - you get pear, apple citrus, butter, wall nuts and a lot of minimality - this is really a complex wine with a long aftertaste - that just stays in your mouth - great balance - medium acidity - we are discussing 96 - but will stay on big 95 - the wine still has many good years to come.

Almost two years since my last bottle, and a really stunning showing tonight. Pnp and this needs only 10-15 min in the open bottle to come together. Still a pale yellow, showing almost no evolution. Beautiful nose, floral notes, oak perfectly integrated, citrus, on the palate fine texture, steely precision and freshness but then also white fruit and a finish of good length. Unlike with the 07, have been really lucky with Bouchard’s 08, no premox or advanced casualties so far, and this is certainly one of the very best C-Cs I have had. Great wine. 95-96

20 months since my previous blt. This is the last of 3 and ubber youthful at age 12. Absolutely no signs of premox. PnP an hour prior to dinner into Reidel white Burg glasses. Light, almost pale gold color. Perfuse aromas of citrus and mineral. This continues to present a dense steely minerality, salinity, citrus, wall nuts, pear, and ginger. Youthfully elegant. Still showing the vigor of a wine only a few years past release. Awesome with fresh pan seared halibut on the deck tonight. Alc 13.5% I did my best to leave this last btl alone and failed. This could easily go another 3+ yrs. If well stored since release like my btls, someone more fearless than I might end up drinking a truly killer btl in 3-10yrs. I played it safe.
Spanish pot luck (Chicago, IL): Although I liked the 2000 Boillot a great deal more than this bottle, this is no slouch of a wine. There is a slight bit of browning apple on the palate here which is worrying, but it's certainly not to the degree I would go about crying premox. Fairly rich, this feels like it's pushing the boundary a bit to me. There is certainly ample acidity here, but at the same time, it doesn't feel too integrated with the rest of the palate. Certainly this has the breadth I would expect from a grand cru, but this bottle just didn't seem to work with me tonigh.

Medium light yellow; somewhat neutral slightly flinty nose followed by a more buttery nose when warming up a bit; rich powerful body with good acidity, long aftertaste, really delightful and tasty, perfectly balanced, refined, lacking that last bit of richness and complexity, but otherwise really good

Showing a touch advanced on the nose with slightly bruised and high toned white fruit. The palate is much better with a more fresh fruit profile and super-rich and chewy fruit. Quite tasty in the mouth. First of 6 and hoping other bottles are more consistently fresh.

Lieu-dit Cur Blind White Dinner (S.K.Y.): Double blind 07/08 Martray/Bouchard C-C. Aromas are a touch mature with light oxidation to the bruised orchard fruit. Big and rich, but showing mature with less freshness. Not the best bottle, I think.

Lovely, enticing nose of hazelnuts and citrus peel. Crystalline in the mouth. Concentrated, with great mouthfeel and well-balanced acidity, but not over the top. Amazing length - just goes on and on. Showing hints of development, but still fresh and youthful. Feels as though it's at its peak, but I'm sure it has years and years ahead of it. Absolutely gorgeous.

Pnp but this really gained a lot of depth and complexity with more air time. Slightly evolved golden yellow. Crisp and clear initially on the palate then more expressive aromatics of white fruit, floral aromas and a touch of oak as the wine evolved. Very nice length. Would give it another 18 months or perhaps a decant if drinking now. In the beginning around 91 at the end 94.

Opened an hour before dinner and found it clean, fresh and elegant on first test sips & sniffs. Yea! Poured a glass and allowed the rest to slow ox while we sipped a glass of NV Vilmart But Grand Reserve. Correct healthy light gold color. Perfuse aromas of citrus, mineral and faint tropical. This continued to present an elegant, regal core of dense sappy minerality, citrus, roasted walnuts, pear, and trace salinity. Awesome with halibut and salad. After dinner on its own it seemed to firm up and present a more linear saline infused crushed limestone front that had less appeal. My last btl is at my backup locker so maybe I can wait 5 years till 2023 for its 15th Bday? I do believe this has plenty of upside. 13.5% Alc

Odd experience right out of the gate - color was surprisingly pale straw after PnP though the nose seemed a bit more mature than expected (nutty, melon,..). Planning to use it for a tasting a couple hours later, I gave it a shot of Argon and stoppered it back up. When poured later, the earlier traits had reversed on me, the color was darker, now a light golden color while any traces of oxidation on nose or palate were gone. Nose of yellow orchard fruit and white flowers; good volume/density of flavors on palate, brisk acid and minerality at the forefront. Over 45 minutes or so, brown spices and those initial hints of roasted nuts return, not bothersome but instead adding nice complexity. Balanced; showing beautifully right now, can't see it getting much better!

Tasted alongside the 08 Coche probably didn't help, but the nose did offer a beautiful fruit profile with white flower, lanolin, and match; not entirely dissimilar in style to the Coche but not nearly approaching the depth and detail of the Coche in my opinion. On the palate, the Coche sang and the Bouchard fell a bit flat -- though this surely would be a super satisfying wine if tasted alone.

Tasted blind: Color of pale apple juice; steely mineral nose with crisp apple, white flowers and obvious intensity and extract which all carries onto the palate. Real gravitas, serious wine. Guessed the producer and the wine, was unsure of vintage. I have a couple of these as well as the '04, '06, '07, '12 and '13. Need to nibble away at the ones older than this!

a very fresh, sea shell-inflected nose of butter cream, golden apple, vanilla and honeyed flowers come about in a very lithe fashion on the nose with remarkable purity and class. 2008 BOUCHARD CORTON CHARLEMAGNE GRAND CRU- the initial nose had what I announced as a sweat sock odour; fortunately that dissipated and in came some, out of the locker room, good stuff; there was ginger, honeyed, baking spiced accented pear, apple and peach; it had some power and some elegance; fine wine.

When BH tasted this on release in 2010 he said drink..... from 2023+. The base Grand Cru material might require that but I'm not sure the wine will last that long. Today the color is a mature gold, not yet premox dark gold but a darker gold than you might expect at age 8-1/2. The density, concentration and minerality are, all, impressive. Sappy and intense mineral and tart citrus as CC should be. Nearly painfully so if, you're unaccustomed to the appellation. No doubt this is Grand Cru white Burgundy. Currently still has a little oak to integrate. What concerns me is this is about 99% healthy. No premox smell but the wine seems a smidge less fresh and clean than it ought to be as it approaches age 9. This was open for several hours and my last pour for a couple hours alone in the glass and still, no obvious premox smells but, I'm having a hard time seeing this last and improve through 2023+ as BH predicted in 2010. I've been burnt a lot by Bouchard in last couple of years so I'm gun shy and perhaps too wary but I'll likely drink my last two btls well before 2020. 93pts - / 92+

Tom & Tami's French and California Extravaganza: Blind. Guessed California. Interesting wine as FMIII and I dissected the components. There's a savory aspect to this wine, spicy wood notes and cayenne pepper. Fruit was yellow pear and we debated whether it was 7-Up or more Sprite like. This wine was not refreshing and seemed over done. That's what had me leaning towards California.
When this was revealed I thought FMIII was going to cry, his wine world and cellar was just turned upside down. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat brought to you by blind tasting.
Chardonnay Blind--CA and France @ Tom Moore's Place (Tom's House): Power chardonnay. With no added air, simply opened and poured off a taste. Don't get the oak sig I got back in 2012. Intense lemon, creamy core, mineral. After another 90 mins, keeps improving with more focus. The intensity in this wine is notable, like a beam of lemony acid, vibrant green apple, kiwi and stones, and again no sign for me of any oak tones....OK, so let me say this, unless I got the order of the wines wrong, as we did this blind over dinner, this CC really went sideways for me. I liked it earlier before I left the house, but when bagged and tasted, this ended up seeming like a glass of 7-Up. While there is lemon, yellow apple and mint, and there is some zesty quality too it, the oak just seemed to emerge, which I had hoped it would have integrated by now. I have one bottle left in the cellar and at $110 per, I'm going to look to sell it. I'd rather drink Dauvissat Forest or Pepiere in multiples than roll all my $$ into something like this. Disappointing and shows once again for me, when the blind is in, all bets are off and humility owns the stage.
Zachys in Chicago (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): Started with lots of sulfur so tough to assess at first. Really opened up beautifully in 15 minutes with lots of ripe apple and pear aromas and flavors, some lemon peel in background with subtle sweet baking spice hints. Increasingly fresh and vibrant with more air. Lots of pleasure today with upside potential for several more years going forward.

First decanted for three hours, then poured back to bottle for two hours. Clear, shiny, light golden color, no tartaric crystals. Citrus fruit, apple, mineral notes, white pepper and sweet oak on the nose. Initially restrained on the palate but impeccably structured and elegant. Popped and poured. I had no previous experience of Bouchard's CCs but this is pretty much what I expected. Oak is noticeable but it has already smoothed nicely in to the wine, but will probably integrate even better in a couple of years. To me, it wasn't obtrusive at this point. A kaleidoscope of rather tropical fruits jump from the glass, in the mouth this is rich, long and well-structured. Very impressive. A crowd pleaser, will be even greater in the future.

I'm more of a red wine drinker, but wines like this will make me start converting.
The Bouchard CC has everything I look for when I want a white wine, and more specifically when I turn to white burgundy. A complex aromatic profile which carries that haunting bouquet I've come to love and hope for in white burgundies, and a flavor profile to match. great balance between the sweetness and acidity to make it both fresh & delicious, then there's a minerality which adds complexity allowing you to enjoy from both a hedonistic and intellectual standpoint.
i went out and bought three bottles right after drinking it, and would have bought more if they had it

Bouchard / Fèvre / Henriot Tasting (The Wine Cellar Club - Irvine, CA): Dense and complex aromas just pour out of the glass with notes of yellow fruits, sweet stones, fresh spring water, flowers, and pine. The citrus flavors are heady yet supple across the palate lingering brilliantly on the finish. Un vin de belle puissance à accorder avec un plat à la texture ferme, en l'occurence pour nous, médaillons de langouste et asperges, le tout servi tiède avec mousse crémeuse à base d'asperges, persil et échalotes.

Great wine. 95-96

This wine continues to rock on - it is simply marvelous. It is enjoyable now despite being quite clearly young. Purity and minerality and intensity. Great stuff. (DFW)

Of 3 halves consumed recently, 1 was quite tight and unready, one a little nutty and advanced and one absolutely perfect!

First decanted for three hours, then poured back to bottle for two hours. Clear, shiny, light golden color, no tartaric crystals. Citrus fruit, apple, mineral notes, white pepper and sweet oak on the nose. Initially restrained on the palate but impeccably structured and elegant. Becomes more powerful with time and lasts long in the glass. The aftertaste is clean, long and fruity. Already very enjoyable and has great potential. 94+

In the bouquet apple, limestone and beautiful smoky oak. The bouquet/wine improves significantly at a little higher temperature. Mouth filling, tasty and clean. Tropical fruits, minerals and beautiful medium toasted oak. Enormous length. A great wine that will continue to improve with more ageing. 94+

The most powerful of the three Bouchard CC’s (including 06, 07), dripping with sappy ripe orchard fruits. There’s some toasty oak evident and it is piercing and long.

Popped, breathed in bottle several hours, poured and followed over next three hours. Wonderful showing. Pulls off the magic; hits the palate with lots of power but seemingly without weight, ethereal. This is drinkable and enjoyable now with lots of air and of course it's only going to get better.

Light nose, with a hint of toast and oak, palate shows medium depth of reserved stone fruit, nice acidity with just a hint of citrus on the medium length finish. Quite nice, elegant and understated.

Burg Dinner (CA and France--Served Blind!)--Part 2 (The Macks In Bennett Valley): Spicy green apple, which also infuses the core of the wine. The texture still exhibits the new oak, but to see this wine early on and taste it, creates a nice reference point for the future bottles I own.

Bouchard Pere et Fils Cellar Visit and Tasting (Beaune Burgundy): Exciting floral start with mint, nutmeg and white pepper supporting great aromas of peach and ripe apple. Palate is simultaneously lush and balanced with great uplifting acidity from middle towards long finish. A truly sensational Corton-Charlemagne is a vintage with many producers also made top notch wine in this commune. I brought this bottle from the tasting to our lunch and it kept getting better.

Powerful and dense but still able to have balance, with beautiful freshness, tension & delicious minerality. This is like a field of flowers, mowed and compressed into liquid form… with the addition of a lemony tart!

This is power with restraint. On the nose there’s preserved lemons, gunflint, minerals and white flowers. It is dense, chalky and sappy in the mouth. It is linear and piecing with great drive and presence. It finishes with terrific cut and is extremely long.

This may not have the edge of some of the other offerings but it makes up for it with dense complex flavor.
