Pale peach and gold in color. Numerous medium to large bubbles. Mild nose that is fruit forward. Medium bodied and off-dry. The aggressive bubbles immediately dance on the tongue. Palate is a strawberry, pear, and lime. A hint of yeast and almonds are present on the mid-palate and finish. Medium-length crisp finish of toast, strawberries, lime, and mineral. Very refreshing, uplifting, and light.
This is constantly one of my favorite bubbles for a warm day with cheeses.

Same color as the brut. The nose is kind of beer-y, rather than pastry. Almost like a sourdough starter. It's not unpleasant, but it is a little odd. There is also some strawberry/red fruit. It's thick on the palate--think strawberry smoothie. About as sweet as the rose, but it's a bit less obvious about it. I would still like a bit more acidity.

This is a great sparkling wine. It's not as fruit forward as some of the others I've tried, but it's very crisp. Pairs well with literally anything. I had it with a filet and shrimp. Also had some goat cheese with blueberries with it and some bourskin cheese. All paired really well. I would highly recommend.

This is a solid sparkling wine from CA that has a decent amount of complexity and provides good value for everyday enjoyment. Tonight I'm getting herbs and toast on the nose, the palate is clean, dry, with green fruit and citrus on the finish. Well balanced with tiny bubbles. Opened to enjoy with sushi and celebrate the new season of Game of Thrones!

This was more simple than the bottle I sampled at New Year's which apparently had been aged for a few years. Tonight, I opened a "fresh" bottle which had great balance and hints of what it might become with some aging. Nice fruit, well offset with acid and fine bubbles. A little yeastiness which I suppose will evolve into more toast or brioche with aging but for now I am pleased with its value and flavor profile; very easy to drink too. This held up well on Day 2.

Tasted at a party, apparently it was aged for a few years beforehand. Very pleasantly surprised, overall pretty good for a low-cost U.S. sparkling wine, lots of classic flavor profiles, a nod at the brioche and some fruit as well, a hint of sweetness but well balanced with citrus. Very easy to drink and excellent QPR.

This is really fresh, offering discreet fruit on the nose and a small, steady bead. The palate is balanced, a bit dry, showing verve and bounce, good depth, and broad notes of apples, chalk, almonds, minerals, and an undertow of citrus. Really enjoyable and good price point.

While not to be confused with the yeasty champagne version of LVMH, this salmon colored sparkler was a great companion at the Thanksgiving table. Smelled of raspberry, toast and citrus fruit. Crisp acids left a cleansed feeling on the palate, which is what one looks for on days like this. Plenty of bubbles with strawberry and raspberry fruits. Decent finish and a great domestic blanc de noirs.

Domaine Chandon Blanc de Noirs NV is currently rated an 87 on CellarTracker. This is supported by the latest Wine Spectator rating of 88 from the Nov 30, 2010 issue. I align with the prevailing opinion of 87, but I initially considered an 86. This is a solid entry for a traditional sparkling wine and a good value at $20. Trending towards dry, it serves up a nice mimosa, but it can also be enjoyed straight.
Rating Scale: Extraordinary (95-100 points); Outstanding (90-94); Very Good to Excellent (85-89); Good (80-84); Average (75-79); Below average (70-74); Avoid (50-69)

Don't understand many of the the low CT scores for this wine. It's light, but with no obvious flaws. Citrus, brioche and crushed stones on the palate. A nice everyday reasonably priced sparkler (I found it in PA, no less, at $ 15). A nice mousse and bead and good acidity.

Retail ~$16. The third of the four wineries started by their Champagne brethren, Domaine Chandon is not only known for their wine, but the excellent restaurant they have on the premises in Napa Valley. The wine is made solely from black grapes (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) and has a slight salmon hue. Great strawberry and blackberry give the wine considerable heft and texture. Pair this with grilled salmon, chicken and mushrooms, and even a veal burger. Very Good. 86-88 Points.
Faintest pink tinge. Notes of apples, a bit of toast and just the faintest hint of earthiness. Very pleasant and light. Was a good sparkler for our NYE party.

About 15 years old; still good bubbles, slight copper color, nose of bruised old strawberries, yeast, slight nutty oxidation; slightly appealing in the mouth with good acidity, CO2, but faded quickly; impressed at the good shape this was in, and drank about 3 glasses with Chinese noodles. But then went quite sour and dumped the rest!

Its texture and palette of soft lemon custard made the day for this wine. A pleasanter experience than I was expecting...although an occasional whiff of damp basement detracted from the charm instead of adding to the complexity. Hard to argue with the QPR. From 1.5L.

I know I said I wasn't going to buy more, but my wife loves this stuff. This is the 4th bottle I've had this month and I am starting to come around to it. Yea, it's simple, lacking in portions of the palate and it's acidity is a little wonky. The flavors on the palate are really nice though, very soft, round, fresh strawberry flavors. A couple times, especially on day 2 of being open, the palate showed something secondary that you could almost call complex. With a cork stopper this easily held enough carbonation to be great the next day. And like I said before, this ends cleanly and nicely. I didn't want to admit it, but I'm on board with this wine now. That and I really like the color this shows in glass, I know that isn't a reason to outright like a wine, but this looks pretty great in a champagne flute.

Think I had about 6 glasses of this waiting for the year to tick over. Was surprised, it was fairly decent (Hmmm community average $15/bottle and I was paying $9/glass). Fairly orangish color with fine bubbles. Moussy in the mouth, with just a bit of old apple from not the best orchards on the palate and finish. Acceptable, and really not that much worse than the '99 Dom Perignon we drank to start the night.

Charming light peach color. Aggressive, moderate sized bubbles producing an attractive mousse on top. Nose of light strawberry jelly on toast points. Also some kiwi and a bit of orange zest. Effervescent dance on the palate. Wonderful mouth feel. Flavors of peach, juicy red apple, finishing with a little yeasty wood and pear. Nice acidity. Good structure overall. Everything in balance. Hint of pink color in this easy-drinking California sparkling wine. Aromas of sweet strawberry, crisp pear and other stone fruit. Medium size bubbles. I was a little harsh in my last note on this sparkler - I had tasted about 16 other fine sparklers that night. This is a very good sparkler at a good value.
Dark straw color and nose of pears and citrus. Nice pear & citrus upfront with some clean minerals / river rock and medium body/bubbles for a slightly creamy texture. It has strong acid and will pair nicely with holiday cheeses and meals. We had ham with some mac & cheese. I also dropped some pomegranate seeds into the bubbly for an extra treat...paired beautifully with some smoked cheddar.

Chilled 15 mins in the Champagne bucket. The nose was very closed with minor pear notes. Tasted, this sparkling wine had nice balance between the solid acidity, minerality, and unripe plum and pear fruit. 20 sec + finish which made you want more. Excellent QPR IMHO. I will be buying more. Paired excellent with the "bocconcini sandwiches" consisting of parma prosciutto, fresh basil, EVOO, and salt and pepper.

This was the first time that I've have a Blanc de Noirs. I have been curious about them for a while, so I decided to pop the cork on this one. Generally speaking I wasn't too impress. Right now this stuff is under $11 in Safeway. At that price you just can't go wrong. A slight sweetness/fruitiness compared to the brut or blanc de blancs and much simpler than the higher end releases, but a great QPR.

First a disclaimer: I like bubbly to be easy to drink and fun, with a little character. That's why I most often buy prosecco, because it's sweet and fruity with bubbles that offset the sweetness.
This one has a good flavor that improves as the bubbles subside. The first glass was just a mouthful of bubbles and a bit of the sourness I dislike in whites. Over time, I began to notice that there was an underlying structure and character to it, but it wasn't enough to overcome my initial impression.
I won't be buying this again.

But then went quite sour and dumped the rest!

Acceptable, and really not that much worse than the '99 Dom Perignon we drank to start the night.

Cherry, strawberry and currant are picked up on the nose. Acidity provides structure to balance this sparkler. Silky, lingering finish.

A basic domestic sparkler, consistent in its nice berry flavor; enjoyable for what it is as a non-expensive wine; slight pink color; not harsh; good with food

Nice off-pink color, toasty yeast nose with a hint of cherry on the palate. Pleasantly surprised.

A fairly old bottle from my cellar (>6 years?). Pretty color, with a fairly fine mousse. Not much fruit left, and distinctly bitter on the midpalate. This should have been drunk five years ago.

My wife wanted a Kir Royale, so this came out. Tasty with and without creme de cassis. Not as crisp as I would have liked, but pretty palest salmon color, smallish bead and a whiff of yeast. Not bad.
