  • Heat damaged which is frustrating given how it’s been cared for.

  • Still going strong, but slightly over the top. Mature fruit, integrated oak, and resolved tannins. But not as vibrant as it was 10 years ago.

  • DAY 1
Served the Sorbo with the Vinloq System
👃Red + dark fruit with spicy oak notes, tobacco & stewed fruit
👅Drinking well. Powdery dark chocolate & blueberries. The tannins are soft

The remaining wine was "Slow Decanted" in my refrigerator

    DAY 11
👃👅Similar notes to day 1. The round profile & silky texture make this very enjoyable. Soft tannins & balancing acidity are also included. Cherry, blueberry, chocolate & tobacco + spice & lightly stewed fruit. So easy to drink👍

I don't see any reason to wait longer on this 07. The tannins are primetime and there is plenty of complexity and interesting flavors right now. Drink away!🍷🍷

  • Purchased on release, stored in temp controlled cellar since then. Brief decant, served with dinner, no formal note.

Fair amount of sediment. Very nice balance of acids, black fruit (blackberry, black cherry maybe even some boysenberry), plum, spices and bits of oak influences. Medium tannins are long and integrated. Very nice bottle and drinking well.

  • A tale of two wines. For the first 60 minutes, it's quite good. Then it goes sour and bitter. Note below is for the first hour. After that it becomes undrinkable.

Super delicious nose of sweet cherry compote, sage, tarragon, lavender, strawberry, plum, and leather. Medium bodied with finely grained, dense black tea tannin that's mostly resolved and moderately bright acid. Structurally this is still a significant wine with fairly stiff edges. The mellow flavor profile includes cherry, blood orange, violet, strawberry, and Herbs de Provence. With 30 minutes of air this starts to flush out. Probably has a good 3-5 year window before it starts declining.

  • I wonder why I even bothered to do the effort of uncorking this bottle knowning that it came from Superiore.de > and indeed all signs of very poor conservation were very obvious after less than 1 second in the glass :(

  • Tuscan WIMPS 2021 (La Trompette): A slightly out of condition bottle, especially on the nose, but still provided plenty of enjoyment. At first it seemed pretty madeirised, though with air that ameliorated and developed into a more attractive resinous aroma. The wine was certainly tasty throughout, with deep brambly fruit, hints of coffee and a lovely finish.

  • A big, juicy and sweeter kind of Vigna del Sorbo. The 2007 is offering peak-drinking at the moment. Ripe and aromatic, with notes black cherries, blackberries, plum, graphite, cedar wood, sweet spices, also some leather. It‘s full-bodied, rich and powerful, with medium-high tannin that is amazingly sweet but hasn‘t melted much since my last bottle a few years ago, there is also good medium+ acidity providing freshness. Long finish.
This is clearly the child of a warm vintage, more delicious than very sophisticated, but totally open and beautiful to drink now.

  • Big and delicious. Powerful nose of vitamin B, red fruits, tobacco and spice. On the palate, plenty of grip on fine grained tannins and medium plus acidity that support big dark rich fruit for a long finish. Loved it

  • This wine is a classic modern style Chianti that never disappoints, other then maybe not being ready to enjoy. This bottle was ready to enjoy, but no reason to rush. Forward nose of dark and mid red fruit, violets and forest floor. It has shed some of its dark fruit. Complex and elegant.

  • Ruby with a bit of brown around the edge, clear and transparent, at first overwhelming prune on the nose. After decanting 2+ hrs we get some spice, vanilla, cumin. It's a big wine, rich fruit, juicy, and deep, long tannins. Great profile, good sweet cherry fruit and also some baked cherry pie. Better with time, open and decant at leat 2 hours.

  • This is by a long shot best of my 5 bottles and one of the memorable Chianti ever. It is starting to give its tertiary elements and yet the rich fruits seemed to have matured yet keeping its presence. A superb combination of fruits meeting its terroir and the balance is just perfect. Still plenty of lush, and mature Sangiovese(and CF) in a majestic way with dark, wet, and sumptuous earth providing a tall standing dignity to its identity and giving a class of its own. By far the most interesting as well as suave stage and simply pity that I've got only one left. This is making me thing again as I had stopped buying Vigna del Sorbo, but here is another exemple that patience can pay off handsomely. Cheers,

  • In the glass, darker than expected given sangiovese but clear rim shows some age. Nose of stewed red cherries, dust and leather, you can tell its a heavier style of Chianti before even tasting. Palate shows good structure and nice acidity, quite full bodied but not over the top. Mid palate was a little hidden. Hint of sweetness. Quite well integrated, oak was more prominent at first but over a couple of hours it calmed down. 15% heat wasn't obvious. Could have done with a decant, but pretty good.

Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comment

  • Medium garnet. Pronounced fully developed aromas of dried cherry, leather, hint of game, earth, smoke. High acidity, medium + fine tannins, full bodied but very elegant, long finish. 15% alcohol was not at all evident. Classic mature chianti.

  • Three hour decant, the classic nose of a chianti is clearly here, with a spicy blend of forest floor and cherry highlights. The palate is lighter in body but has a lot of complexity going on with wood spice and cherry.

  • Part of a tasting of 2007 Tuscans held a week ago. I’m not really sure what to make of this wine. It was more advanced in color and on the nose than any of the other wines when it was initially decanted. That was despite the fact that the cork was in great shape and the wine had been stored in appropriate conditions since release. Most of the folks in the room found this wine to be in the bottom of the group, and I agree. It seemed to be putting on weight and improving somewhat by the end of the tasting, which was 5+ hours after decanting. Perhaps it just needed more air and would have shown better with additional time to come around. Again, I’m not sure what to think but was disappointed in this showing.

  • A superb Chianti just starting to open up to 2nd stage and we are able to get a glimpse of the future of this. The fruits are still primary but the gripping tannin has given way to smoother texture and evocative aromas. Dark yet elegant, the sweet berries under the Tuscan Sun from '07 is still fully present however the full body monster is starting to be a bit more romantic and the scorching sun from the '07 is definitely starting to show a bit of nuances as if the sun is ready to set itself and display what it actually has in its soul. The aromas were simply gorgeous, the texture much more complex than my last bottle from 2 years ago and on the palate it had a very intriguing waves of dark fruits, minerality(not any more the hard tannin) and shades of bright and sweet energy. Still plenty of dark strawberry after taste and that spiciness that I often associate with Sangiovese. I wonder what this would like if Fontodi did not add any Merlot in it But then they have the marvellous Flaccianello, which is 100 Sgvs. Anyway this bottle was very talkative until the very last sip and it sure was a joyful and delicious moment. Cheers,

  • Very much oaky with matured fruit. In my opinion past peak already. Red berries in the nose, lots of tobacco and sweet spices. Liitle of dry tannins present. Next day even less interesting.

  • The first bottle I am opening of the few bottles I bought on release. Vigna del Sorbo is probably my single favorite wine from Tuscany (maybe together with Percarlo from San Giusto a Rentennano). I usually prefer cooler vintages, so I was curious to see how this is showing.
Pretty open for a young Vigna del Sorbo... with notes of dark cherries, blackberries, also some dark red fruit, plum, some sweet spices, tobacco, cedar wood, licorice, also some menthol. It's full-bodied, dense and powerful, with still medium-high tannin and medium+ acidity. The alcohol is a touch pronounced at this point. Long finish. A super impressive, already accessible (if you can handle tannin) and pretty Vigna del Sorbo. It's probably not up there with the very best last vintages (2010, 2012) but still very impressive. I am torn about the potential for ageing. It's really nice already and the acidity seems to be a little lower than in the colder vintages (duh). Very good stuff.

  • A great wine, just a bit shy of hitting its prime time. Nevertheless profound and awesomely rich, but the sheer energy of Sangiovese cuts through the dense texture to give a tangy, complex and peppery after taste amid a huge amount of mature fruits. You definitely sense the presence of Merlot and I am wondering what this would be like if it were a 100% sangiovese ... Cheers,

  • Thick and juicy, with good amount of alcohol (nail polish character) on the nose. Quite rich. With Sweet and ripe blueberry liqueur, a tad bit of earth in the background. Very fruit forward and almost syrupy. I can see why this scores so high, but I prefer other vintages of this I have tried. That said, a very quality wine that paired well with beef tenderloin. Drinking fine now with long life ahead. 90-91+ pts

  • Big, fleshy, racy and hot may work in Napa, but it’s hard to pull off in Tuscany. The nose was large-scaled with ripe black cherry, espresso bean and intense sweet spice. On the palate, I found weighty textures with densely packed red fruits wrapped in a mix of sweet, sweet tannin and spice. It finished on dried cherry, cheek-puckering tannin and a hint of heat. There’s an audience for the 2007, but it’s not with a group of Chianti lovers.

  • Way too young at this stage. After 3 hours open, it barely showed more than teeth-staining bold, dark fruit, moderate drying tannin and good dose of acid. Toward the end, some red fruit peeked out but I anticipate great things emerging with another 3-5 years bottle age. Hold.

Question de goût je suppose!

  • Solid Chianti. Probably close to the end of its drinking window, due to vanishing fruit.

I am a bit disappointed, as I expected a wine which is more close to the 2007 Flaccianello than the 2007 Chianti Classico. However this is not the case.

Moderne uttrykk. Trenger mat. Her er det mye å gå på. 91p.

  • This was part of a celebrity meal and was had alongside an 09 Lagrange. Maybe I have a predaliction for Sangiovese but wow this is an awesome wine - how do the Italians so tannins like this, rippling over the fruit and giving fantastic structure and grip.

  • Very dark colour, almost black with easily spotted brown reflex on the rims. Opulent forrest fruit nose, lots of vanilla also can be smelled. Full bodied, round in mouth. After a while fantastic acidity shows up and tannins (but weak already). Long finish, with cinamon and sweet spicy. Today (the day after) I again tasted the rest and it is full of chocolate and tobbaco now. Being honest yesterday was better after 2 hours of decanting. Great wine!

  • From memory: Three years since last bottle, and it seems to be developing a dried fruit character I’m not terribly exited about. Still plenty of structure to withstand the high level of extraction, but I liked it better when primary black cherries were in the forefront rather than prunes and dried figs. Otherwise displays good complexity with hints of varnish, leather, exotic spices, dry soil and caramel complimenting the powerful fruit.

  • all 2007's, one bottle of percarlo corked.

pergola torte: lightest of wines, light, elegant, perfumey, disappointing

fontodi vigna sorbo: very similar to sodi, a bit darker, tannic, perhaps a little better than sodi

sodi niccolo: very similar to sorbo but more earthy, a touch lighter fruit profile but richer??

percarlo: lighter fruit profile, wonderfully sweet and lively midpalate characteristic of this wine, round mid-palate, acidic, sweeter fruit

casanovi di neri tenuta nuovo: modern, ripe sweet fruit, oak, but balanced - outstanding!

tignanello: simply great, one of favorites!

poggio merli: tannic, fruit good not great

ornellaia: good, not great fruit, tough to compare to all other non-cab wines.

  • Afgan Kebobs - Home away from Home: Baby-killing... but so hard not to! Iron, meat, touch of vanilla from the oak, big up front - needs time to integrate better. the mid is clean, amazing acidity and the cherries are ripe - and follow all the way to the finish. Over time - the wine developed even more aromatics - with rosewater and ripe flowers. this is just delicious!

  • Nice color, nose was a little bit modest. PNP'ed initially to have with meatballs and salad. At dinner this was disappointing, but the depth of fruit did improve over three hours. Still very tannic and tight. I would have given it an 87 on the first night , but later it did get better and on the second was still tannic but had opened up some and drinking better earning a 92.

  • Tasted when first opened and it was beautiful. Let stand for 6 hours and brought to Italian restaurant. I don't think this needed 6+ hours of airing as it lost some zing. Still an amazing young wine with beautiful fruit with a nice balance of acidity and fine tannins. Next time open 1-2 hours before max. Bottle 4 of 12.

  • - Ruby color and aromas of cherry, vanilla, coffee, almond and mushroom. It's in total harmony with a medium/full body. Fleshy texture with a long finish - This may be the best chianti classico riserva I have tasted to date. 07 is very approachable due to a being a very hot year.

  • Popped and poured. Tawny brick colored, decent viscosity. Nose initially very muted, ebut vigorous shaking in the glass reveals a lovely bouquet of blackberry and violets. In the mouth, noticeable but smooth mouth coating tannins give a medium / full bodied feel, dark fruit flavors, with notes of sour plum.

Well balanced, but quite closed. Needs decanting or, better still, more time in bottle.

  • 2007 Brunello and Super-Tuscan Tasting (Caro's Wines, Auckland, New Zealand): 90% Sangiovese, 10% CS. High acid, awkward and tight, elements of tobacco. The CS makes itself known in the mouth but currently results in a monolithic texture. I don't find this wine too promising, although it is clear it is extremely well made and concentrated. Maybe this just needs time in the cellar for the cepage to settle down and marry. 86+++?

  • From memory: Decanted for almost three hours before tasting. Dark ruby colour. Beautiful, complex nose; dark cherries, mocha, oak spice, vanilla, raw mushrooms and damp forest floor. On the palate; powerful and opulent without being brute or one dimensional – there’s a whole lot of depth and finesse here too. Plenty of structure to balance out the high level of extraction. By far the best Chianti Classico I’ve had to date. Drinks beautifully today provided it’s given time to breathe. Will most likely continue to provide pleasure for another ten to fifteen years.

Mycket uppskattat.

  • This is a big wine with a bunch of classical modern Tuscan notes; cherries, a whiff of chocolate, serious herbs, minerality, great acidity and tannins to die for. Today the tannins punch you in the mouth, but they're so ripe, so sweet that it's actually a punch making you want more. Delicious stuff to drink now and to put away for a few years. Not quite extraordinary, but wonderful, harmonious and intriguing.

  • A delightful bottle of wine, the best 2007 Chianti Classico Riserva that I’ve tasted so far. Varietal composition: a Sangiovese-based cuvée (90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon), that was aged for 24 months in Allier and Tronçais barriques (1/2 new and 1/2 second use). Decanted two hours in advance and consumed over the next four. Brilliant and deep cherry red color and a really explosive nose with alluring scents of sour cherries, cassis, licorice, spices (nutmeg, clove) and vanilla. Full-bodied, rich palate revealing concentrated red fruit, a firm but well balanced acidity, fine oak tones (not at all intrusive) and evident but already quite integrated tannins. Excellent length with some earthy tones. Although very good now, this wine is certain to evolve beautifully for 3-5 years.

  • Ruby red with a lovely nose, full of baked raspberry and strawberry. Ripe and deep with more black fruit than the Classico which was more red fruit flavoured. Good length and depth of flavour with roast coffee and spicy oak on the finish.

  • Glossy ruby red with a sweet cherry and rhubarb nose. Ripe and well balanced with cherry and cedar cut by the young sharp acidity. Good length. I liked this.

  • Very drinkable now. Reasonably well balanced, good tannins balanced by some fruitiness and a hint of vanilla. Should age very well.

  • Pretty, aromatic; pungent but sweet fruits tickle the nose. Promising.

On the palate, fairly round, but a bit broad. Showing quite a bit of tannin, tasty sweet red fruits, has some concentration and tiny bits of spice. 91+. Very pretty, perfumey nose.

  • The Italian Wine Masters (Hilton, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York): To drink this, and then have the 1999 later in the day, was an interesting peak into what truly buried beneath the youthful structure of this wine. The 2007 showed red fruits with spice and vanilla on the nose. The palate was structured, showing mulling spice with leather and sour red berries. I believe its enjoyable now with a good decant but will be truly amazing if left to age in your cellar.
