During a tasting dinner. Easily recognisable as a Claret with >30 years of age. Earthy notes, tobacco, moss. Quite light and elegant on the palate. Very respectable showing.

Coravin fun - Batailley (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of menthol and mint, wet earth, mushroom with a little truffle, a whisper of red and black brambles with Ribena, fruit tea and a little black coffee. In the mouth it's sourly juicy, tangy, red and black brambles, filigree tannins, medium length, nearly fully tertiary, time to tidy this one up I think.

Much better than the last bottle tried. A bit of a lighter style, but classic aged claret nose, good color, and very well balanced. Won't improve but no rush.

Very lucky, there was no issue with it. Only ‘issue’ was the cork, crumbled, but saved it. Lovely flavours, tobacco, leather. Full body. Portwineish color. Great experience!!

(Château Batailley) Group's #7 (my #2) – 77 pts; 1, 1, 2, 3 – Light medium brick red color with clear meniscus; tobacco, leather and mushroom nose; nice tobacco, leather, mature Bordeaux palate with good acidity and green bean notes; medium finish (easy pick as Bordeaux ringer)
