I’m a big fan of this wine, going back to first drinking late 90s bottles. But, so far at least, I’m not a fan of this vintage. Even with a lot of time in a decanter, or the glass, it feels like it hasn’t come together. I have 10 more so there’s time. One thing, if you’re filtering it, you’re going to get all clogged up, so let it stand for a couple of days before decanting and pour carefully in one go.

Accessed using coravin over two days. Lots of sediment ended up clogging the needle so had to take it out, wash it and re insert. Wine is silky something and ready to go. Medium nose light body.

Medium red. The nose is very secondary, forest floor, leather, black cherry and thyme. Delicious creamy feeling cherry, berry and spice flavours and the most approachable finish in any Flaccianello I have had. The flavours are long and the tannins perceptible in the back of the mouth.

This seems to have filled out a great deal since I last tried it five years ago, and came across a lot more like other Flacc vintages: full-bodied, a touch of wood, not entirely red-fruited, but also rather compelling. A Bordeaux-lover's Tuscany, then, even though it's 100% Sangiovese. I was expecting to open the first of my bottles this year, but now I think I'll defer another year (at least).
