Dried orange/blood orange rind, dried rose petals, whiff of tar on nose; ready to go but has the nebbiolo fruit to last several more years; tannins are present but drinkable after a couple hours and with food; good showing

Dark clear purple in color (non-typical for Nebbiolo) with pronounced licorice flavors and good structure. Perhaps a bit chunky in texture and again not typical for a Barbaresco. It had moved just beyond primary flavors and aromas and had picked up some secondary characteristics. Probably ready to drink as it may not continue to improve.

A fairly dark colour for a Nebbiolo wine. Aromatic and balanced nose with tar, rose petals, aromatic herbs and a fair amount of alcohol (the label states 14%). Already very accessible on the palate, with a nice balance betweeen fruit, secondary impressions such as tar, and acidity. Can be enjoyed now.

I don’t have a ton of experience with Babarescos but here are my impressions of this wine. Aromas of black pepper, blackcurrant, spices and a bit of cedar. In the middle more blackcurrant, spices, smoke, anise and a bit of leather with a long, aromatic finish. It had drying tannins and acidity and seemed well-balanced. Elegant wine that I will be holding for at least 2-4 more years. Good with food. [$48]
