  • Dinner at B&A: Blind. Mid to full garnet with a hint of dense ruby at the core. When I had these a decade older I thought this might be 89. Compared to a bottle in late 2021 this is quite evolved and less vibrantly, joyously fruited. Fruit profile perhaps a little diffuse. A slightly curious lactic note not dissimilar to that on a recent 04 initially, then this seems to clear. What turns out to be the 02 alongside seems to be getting the love, and I can see why, but as this 01 opens and evolves in the glass I have a soft spot for the slightly redder fruit, silkier texture and brighter acidity. Not a top bottle of this though, however lovely. ****

  • Voluptuous, bucolic and arboreous.

My last and perhaps the second-best bottle I have had from this batch. Pain grille, morning rain, haystacks, wet paint and copious amounts of plums and cherries. Took about an hour to open. Sad to see it go, but at the same time, this was not worth the price of admission.

  • Slow ox 3 hours. Some bricking. Bottle felt tired. Fruit fading some plum and smoke. Tannins resolved. No reason to wait on these. Wanted another right bank and opened canon la gaff 2009 right after which was way more lively and fruity

  • Spicy and wild with a medium finish -- nothing too notable in terms of lasting; drank on NYE; generally an impressive bottle and more noteworthy than other older VCC I have drunk; the previous reviews are a bit harsher; while not unique, a great bottle relative to the price.

  • This was in an awkward spot. Pristine bottle and cork. Nose a little shy. A little herbal pepper and on the nose mixed with dried fruit notes. Palate on the narrow vibrant side, but shows some coarse tannins leading into a shorter than expected. Good, just not exceptional. But likely in an odd spot and could use some more time.
Got better in decanter at 3hrs; give this plenty of air.
