An easy afternoon with close friends; Bordeaux 2015 (@ FD): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, some smoke and beautiful oak. On the palate juicy red and dark berry fruits and a slight touch of sweetness. Juicy acidity and slightly sticky tannin with a bite, some bitterness and bell pepper. Very good wine, but the vintage is probably the problem to make this wine great. 92 – 93 because with more time it will probably soften a bit and show more finesse.

Green pepper, cedar with some red fruit on the nose, rich long palate with enough sweet fruit to blend with the firmish tannins, lots of other elements emerging, but overall I wonder if 2013 is not great for VCC. Expensive

Celebrated my birthday with both a VVC 2013 and a Gravette de Certan 2013 together (and some duck confit and fancy cheese). Two wines from the same grapes with the Gravette using the younger vines. A fascinating experiment. Each wine complimented and illuminated the other. First the Gravette, which is designed for earlier consumption: sweeter, fresher, more approachable, but with the deep pedigree of the vineyard. Dark plum, leather, hints of earth, but none of the sous bois of, say, a Margaux. Then the VCC, which was the grown-up version -- more tannic, acidic and austere, but also with more depth and complexity. It actually took a final glass the following day to enable me to start to get to grips with all that's going on with VCC. It has this deep, deep core of flavors and notes, and then tangential notes, which at this age requires a 24-hour decant to let come to the surface. Even after 10 years, it's still a green wine. Happily leaving my other bottles for another 10 years.

Solid wine, relatively balance, high acidity this time. Earthy, old world. Fine tannin. Well made wine in a challenging year. At sub $100, it is a good wine.

Pnp. Balance and refreshing. Light and aromatic. Soft tanin, black fruits, some orange peel and eucalyptus. Very enjoyable!
