Took 5 hours or this to truly blossom. A kaleidoscope of smells, with violets, rose and tar predominating. The palate still.needs a few years to fill out... but the nose alone..

Took a couple of hours and some aggressive swirling before it started strutting its stuff. Very intense rose and violets. So beautiful. the palate took longer to come around, but when it did... WOW. this has the stuffing to go for several more decades

Decanted. Rust-ruby in color, with clarity and brightness. Aromas of pressed roses, sandalwood, brown mushroom, worn leather and black tea, with emerging dark fig and blood orange fruit. Lively and succulent fruit expression on the palate, with further fig notes and red apple skin, along with seamless secondary layers of star anise, tar, fresh hibiscus, crushed stone, rosemary and damp forest. Medium-to-full in body, fleshy and expansive, Fine around the edges but with plenty of teeth and grip, not totally integrated structurally but that’s okay. Taut with its acidity and fine gripping tannins, finishing with long succulent length. Excellent, very early drinking in its window. Drink/hold.

Very approachable - even for pop and pour. Had alongside 2013 Brovia Garblet Sue and I found this to be the better wine, albeit lighter in style.
