  • From a magnum bottle.

Deep lemon yellow color with a subtle lime green highlights. The nose feels ripe, surprisingly youthful and confusingly Riesling-like with vibrant aromas of lemon marmalade, floral white flower tones, some sweet white-fruited tones, a little bit of greengage, light toasty notes of bread dough, a hint of chopped chili and a spicy touch of saffron. The wine is quite full-bodied, rich and rather concentrated on the palate with rather tactile yet not particularly weighty overall feel. There are complex, dry flavors of wizened lemony citrus fruits, some tangy salinity, a little bit of beeswax, light mineral notes of incisive steely character, a hint of ripe red apple and a touch of overripe golden currants. The moderately high acidity makes a nice counterpoint to the oily mouthfeel and lends nice sense of structure to the wine. The finish is lively, bright and steely with long flavors of dried peach, some tart green apple tones, a little bit of apple peel bitterness, light honeyed tones and a savory hint of exotic spices.

A big, concentrated and complex yet not ponderous or heavy Pouilly-Fumé that shows remarkable power and intensity without losing the freshness and minerality of Sauvignon Blanc. A beautifully developed example of the variety, showing that the best Sauvignon Blancs are capable of aging gracefully for several decades. I have no idea how the wine bottled in standard-sized bottles is doing, but this wine bottled in magnums was in a beautiful phase. Recommended.
