  • POP. Consistent with tasting 15 months ago. Violet/lavender on opening, but this closed down a bit during drinking. Palate was lavender, slightly tart cherry, lighter than other zins. Two others had bad bottles from this same shipment, so I feel lucky.

  • Not much depth, almost Pinot-like. Lots of fruit, but light and thin...

  • Drank as part of 6 bottle Zinfandel Wine dinner (Limon Turkish restaurant)
    • 2009 Seghesio (dark. mid—heavy weight zin, dark berry fruit with lots of plum. 88/89 points)
    • 2007 Sky Vineyards Mount Veeder (nice nose of lavender, bright cherry color, looks lightweight. Tasted berries and cherries, had more acid than the other zins. Not everbody liked a zin with acidity, but was very good for me. VG QPR, and close to wine of the night. Everybody will split a case for the price. 91.5 pts)
    • 2002 Sky Vineyards Mount Veeder (initial nose was fantastic, bright and fresh flowers. Taste did not reflect the nose, and with more air it lost its nose and acidity which dropped rating to 86 points.)
    • 2008 Green & Red Vineyards Chiles Canyon Vineyards (dark blue/purple. Strawberry, full mouth, black cherry. much, much rounder and fuller than the Sky which throws one off a bit. 89/90 points)
    • 2009 Green & Red Vineyards Chiles Mill (more complex than the G&R Canyon, better of the two G&R 91points.)
    • 2009 Robert Biale Vineyards Black Chicken (Dark purple, Dark heavy fruit, tea, dried herbs, very good long finish. The wine of the night. 92 points!)

  • Delicate red berry and cherry fruit, with a soapy lavender-violet note and some baking spice. Medium-bodied with medium acidity and a watermelon jolly rancher flavor on the palate. Some tannic grip and decent length. Probably the youngest Sky that I've tasted and I think I prefer them with some age on them -- definitely not a big fan of the candied fruit on the palate (perhaps it's just the vintage).
