  • Nearing the end of its life. Fairly light, smoky, spicy...only way to describe it is that it has a very "natural" feel to it. Typical Sky.

  • I enjoyed this bottle much more than the last one. We had it with big, meaty burgers. A slightly sweet red berry (close to cherry cough syrup) base with nice spice. Not a Zin by any normal measure, but one that you enjoyed picking up the glass each time. The finish lasted until morning.

  • Well, this child of the 60s certainly has a mind and a wine of his own. This is not a Zin in any typical expression. It is dark red throughout, with the most striking dimension being the color -- a glistening dark ruby that makes you want to just stare at the sunset through its crimson lens. The restrained alcohol (13.5%) and fine tannins take a back-seat to the red fruit (did I mention red fruit). A little on the thin side overall, with some spice and bramble. I rthink the price point is a bit high for what this wine is—whatever it is—but it was a nice departure from the head knockers that are so many other CA Zins.

  • At Deuce with the gang. Crushed red berry nose, with nice spice. Palate is fresh, good acid, fruit tarts, maybe a bit thin, but enjoyable. Greg noted it was like a Chianti, which it certainly was in structure.

  • In the lighter, more classic style. But I wouldn't call this exactly elegant. Concentrated red fruit core--think raspberry and cranberry, tightly wound in tannin and refreshing acidity. After a quick decant picking up some mocha and espresso on the nose, intense wild, brambly red fruit, anise, drying tannins and a long finish. I grabbed this off the shelf after reading an article in WS and must say I am very impressed. I expect the 13.5% alcohol is not just a sign of the vintage but more a product of the winemaking style. A great change of pace from the full throttle zins out there. Will be looking for more.
