Community Tasting Notes (5) Median Score: 93 points

  • Bright red fruit, cinnamon and wood smoke on the nose. Jolt of cranberry, orange pith, raspberry, white pepper and clove on the palate. Medium body with gushing acidity. Fun wine with more time to go, I think…

  • Off the list at Chez Panisse. Decanted for a bit of sediment. Soaring nose of wild berries and wild flowers, a gorgeous perfume of mountain Zin. Bright and lively in the mouth with a mix of ripe and underripe plums and berries. This is assertive and palate staining but only medium-bodied. Lovely.

  • Dark crimson in color. 14% ABV. Intriguing nose of red fruits, anise and mint. Medium body with medium acidity. Rustic, Claret style Zinfandel. Cherry, cranberry, spearmint and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Such a unique Zinfandel and just a triumph from the problematic '15 vintage. This will drink well for years to come.

  • I’m back home for the week and came across a bottle of the 2015 zin at the local shop for winery pricing. Popped it open yesterday afternoon – nothing resembling a decanter at my sister’s place, so just left it open on the counter for a few hours.

The nose and palate both channeled pure, bright plum fruit to me. At times like the rush of flavor from biting into a cold, ripe plum on a summer day. At times something more akin to umeboshi. A really charming wine that played well with our dinner - Flannery, roasted potatoes, and a salad.

Recognizing this wine is quite youthful and will likely benefit from a few years of bottle age, I’m still glad I caught it at this stage in its evolution.

  • Crimson in color. 14% ABV. Riveting nose of red fruits, baking spices and pepper. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Claret style with juicy fruits in spades. Raspberry compote, salmonberry, blood orange and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Such a unique and absolutely delicious Zinfandel. Best over the next 2-4 years.
