  • Still tannic, a little rough, and lacking in fruit.

  • Remarkable for its age. Not over the hill, not a spring chicken. Nose is moderate with elements of tar and mineral and a hint of roses. The palate is still pretty big, with significant nebbiolo fruit, earth tones and leather. Moderate acidity and small amount of tannins still tingling at the end.

  • Battle of Barbaresco, cooperative Produttori against Gaja, the king of Barbaresco. Vintages 85, 90 and 01 tasted against each other. Past peak but drinkable, more an interesting wine than pleasurable. Oxidative notes, dark wet cherries, black tea, licorice, charcoal, camp fire.

  • We tried but couldn't go home again. Visited Produttori in June and tasted perhaps a dozen Barbarsecos and very much liked them and then found this one in a wine shop in Alba. Perhaps the long trip back home didn't help but even after two hours there was a bitterness and a touch of raisin or citrus. Had old Barberas and barbarescos while in Piemonte that we loved so will chalk it up to how the wine shop stored it

  • Terkel BYO: Complex and intense nose with camphor, balsamic, sewer and a hint of petroleum.
The palate is however a little bit disappointing and watery. It does have sour cherries, rose and a little coffee, tar and leather but overall it is rather dry and unstructured.
A fully mature wine that is clearly over the hill.
