Sesti / Costanti Brunello Vertical (Alex's place): Pretty good, but not amongst the best wines of the night. This started out with a very tight, unyielding nose. It took some time to coax it out of its shell to show subtle dark fruited scents alongside Italian herbs and spicy, smoky notes. The palate was quite subtle as well. It seemed to be in a rather shut down phase actually, showing rather muted black fruit notes seasoned with more Italian herbs and spices, along with a lean, minerally undertone. It was a bit lighter, on the midweight side, but it was still very firm, a bit too much so on the finish when drank without food actually. Thankfully, this was met with a good bit of fresh acidity which gave the wine a sense of focus and definition. A pretty well-made example, but not one of the stronger wines on the night.

Less expressive, alcoholic nose. Smokey, bbq meaty and dark red fruit on the palate. Prunes and ripe drying tannins on the finish.

Sweeter ripe black berries with spice and some tar. More secondary notes but still elegant

Sesti Brunello Vertical 1995 – 2005, with Greg Sherwood MW (Handford Wines, London): Closed almost flat on the nose. Starts of thin on the palate but has good tannin and gets to life on the finish. Good fruit and acidity to finish. 90-91
