Smooth as silk, very fresh and clean, this bottle was holding up nicely. Lots of smoke and meaty notes, the flavor profile here actually reminded me more of an older Chave Hermitage more so than other mature Pomerol I’ve drank. WOTN vs 84’ Diamond Creek and 90’ Grand-Puy-Lacoste

I continue to be impressed with this estate's consistency in producing outstanding wines in even mediocre vintages. Unfortunately my love affair with Trotanoy is becoming an expensive habit. The nose on this was just spectacular, brimming with ripe plum, leather and cigar notes. The palate took a while to catch up (it was better on day 2) and was a bit thin and disjointed initially, but when it did fill out, it made for a complex, complete, and utterly beguiling wine. Caressing on the palate, with aforementioned plum, cherry, pomegranate and cedar notes. Liquid silk. Not quite as good as the stunning '75, but mighty close.

This was my bottle for an old bottle dinner, purchased a few years ago at auction so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Did a quick double decant for sediment before I left the house, then put the cork back in until we drank it 45-60 min later. Cork was soaked all the way through but intact. Wine was open from the start but did not fall apart as some others did. Plenty of fruit and intensity as well as the perfect balance of tertiary notes. Long lively finish. This was my WOTN (we did not do this formally but for many others it was a favorite). So glad this bottle was in great shape. So many great wines it is hard to rank but also had in no particular order: 1971 Haut Brion 1973, 1982 Cos 1988 Lafite 1996 La Mission 1971 Mouton 1986 Ducru 1982, 2000 Leoville Poyferre 1985 Palmer 2001 Carbonnieux Blanc 1982 La Conselliente 1975 Beau Sejour (magnum)
Plus more that I didn’t write down. I know there was another vintage of La mission and maybe a 3rd Cos. Needless to say a great night and great wines. Not a bad bottle in the bunch.
What a treat. Colour - garnet, not much bricking. On the nose - cedar, cigar box, forest floor on a summer afternoon. On the palate - still expressive - fully tertiary by now with some mushroom and vegetal notes, but a tight core - a bit of cigarette ash perhaps.
