Champagne and claret (John's place, Croton): Pretty wine with a core of very fresh red and black fruit, but surprisingly primary with very little apparent development beyond that herbaceous/savoury earthy character I find in younger Bordeaux. Nicely balanced, but I found myself drawn more to the complexity in the '93.

(at Vito’s - Baltimore). A lovely wine in prime drinking window. Some Pomerol plum and lushness but with a left bank sternness. Correct with a solid dose of pleasure. (93)

Very aromatic with dark cherry and violets. The floral notes give way to damp earth but the cherry is persistent. Medium length and velvety tannins that provide a little bite on the finish. Plenty of fruit but could still use some time in the bottle.

This was more subdued than a bottle in the fall, some tannic structure, red plum fruit with a touch of mocha, moderate acids. Seemed a bit in a shell, but stylistically more my style than the Pavie. Give it time. B+

Young, with red fruits, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla on nose. Palate is fleshy without being fat- ripe plum and a touch of coffee. Moderate acids and sturdy but friendly tannins, does well with meat now, plenty of life left. A-
