Hanzell Estate Chardonnay 1972-2013 (Swift & Sons): Really holding together wonderfully. This has been open for the last hour and a half or so. Raspberry and floral, still medium tannin. Very mineral to the palate, spritely, with a little of the Band-Aid that I also found in the '72 Chard. An exceptional showing, especially given the previous notes that I see for this wine.

Opened at our "pinot night" with M&P. Funky nose to start, but blew off. Turned out to be a delicate wine, aging gracefully. Hints of fruit with leathery soul. No rating. Just enjoyed it.

Rhone Rangers tasting (Vinens verden, Odense): Muddy medium red color with a brown hue. The nose is warm and mature with notes of leather, caramel, dust and truffles. Surprising taste with more power, some strawberry and cherry fruit first and more nuances of licorice, viols and bulwark on the midpalate and finish. Great length. Very mature and it seems to have lost a bit of focus, but it remains alive and is drinking well now.

For a 32 year old bottle, nice. A pristine bottle, perfect looking cork, but soft, didn't come out in one piece, lots of fragments. Good nose and color with a bit of browning at the rim. Nice fruit with a good finish. Too bad it's the last bottle available to me... Surprising quality for a 32 year old Cali Pinot Noir

Deep red color with faint browning at the rim. Aromas of iron, balsalm, mushrooms, sous bois, and a hint of leather. On the palate, this is dark, showing iron, mushroom, and a touch of game. Hints of red fruit appear on the long finish. A very nice showing for this old bird. Removed cork (pristine, by the way) around 3:45 p.m. for 7:00 p.m. meal service. Last glass was poured around 9:00 p.m. and showed no differently than the first. Solid and satisfying. A good old bottle.
