My last bottle of wine from the “UC Davis” collection. Every bottle but one has been nothing short of spectacular and this continued the trend. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1974 Hanzell Pinot Noir - robust tannic structure that made me think less Pinot and more Cabernet but just filled with dark red Pinot fruit to go along with the fine grain dusty tannin. The fruit is long and weighty. The bouquet on the wine is all savory spices, spearmint and dark fruit. Absolutely captivating old California Pinot with plenty of life ahead of it.

Hanzell Vertical (Union Restaurant, Seattle.): Similar nose to '73 - mocha and coffee roast dust. Slight furnace and must with a dry Madeira element. Faded, milkweedy notes, non-sweet chai as well. Weakened clearly.

Hanzell Vertical (Seattle, WA): Some complained of TCA, but I thought the wine was not corked or if so then only very faintly. A bit of spirit on the nose and then sweet incense and pine, almost luxurious smelling. Tangy and structured with pomegranate and a dusty grippy personality.
