  • Tuscany WIMPS #169 29th September 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pomegranate and coarsely ground pepper to start on the nose here, later a little fig roll. Some sweated lardons and over-ripe strawberries. Palate is crisp, bright with good acidity and just enough sweetness to interest. A tad short maybe and the others in the flight a whisker ahead on the day.

  • Bell pepper, balsamico, earth, ripe, spicy red fruit; good intensity and tipicity. Supple, soft attack before acidity and tannins kick in and provide structure and bite. Slightly drying on the spicy, slightly hot finish. Best bottle so far for me and I think in a good place. Didn't expect this vintage to age so well to be honest. 17/20

  • Popped and drank the first 2 glasses - matured colour, full nose but missing yet complexity and depth - roundish….hints of balsamic - expted more but will update with the btl opened in the fridge for a day…update to 91 points. After 2 days in the fridge super round and balanced, good length and elegance - brunello as it should be. So open early!

  • Pnp. Drank this over a few glasses from Coravin. Full matured Brunello offering great enjoyment. There appears to be some heat on the finish which seems to impact a couple of the bottles I had, some more prominent than others.

  • Highly recommend. A beautiful mature high end sangiovese that is currently drinking superbly. At this point of maturation quite a good QPR wine. Drink or hold - fully mature but still somewhat youthful with an easy decade+ left with proper cellaring. We popped & poured at tableside and it opened up nicely but if possible would recommend a 60-90 minute decant. Dark purple, a hint of peripheral bricking, soft mouth feel, good texture, complex and with a very pleasant long aftertaste. Soft muted nose of plum, kirsch, blueberry, black pepper and smoke. Flavor profile soft, complex and beautiful with soft tannins, well controlled oak, dark stone fruit, black cherry and coffee followed by a tobacco and black pepper finish.

(Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino) Medium red violet color; aromatic, spice, licorice, dried berry nose; silky textured, tasty, ripe raspberry, dried cherry, spice palate; could use 4-plus years; long finish
