Over the hill, but not without qualities. Initially mostly wet cellar and cooked vegetables on the nose. With a bit off time it gets more pleasant with a fair bit of dried tomatoes, herbs, cherries and tobacco. On the palate the wine is fairly lively with a decent amount of fruit left, silky tannins and good intensity. Drink up!

Vertical tasting of Lisini and Il Poggione. This wine is far better and more fresh than the 1981 Il Poggione. Mature, complex wine that actually developed a lot after a few hours in the decanter.

Base neck fill, cork in pristine condition. Ripe. Quite ripe, even raisiny, but not without plenty of redeeming qualities. A little syrupy in texture for a traditional Brunello. At 30 years of age, this wine is just about at the end of its useful life. Drink now. (90-91)

Definitely at the end of its life. Heavily bricked, ever so slightly cloudy in appearance. Quite enjoyable an hour after decanting.

All balsamic and sangiovese-like. Deelicious.
