We had an ’04 two nights earlier and LOVED it. So we had high expectations for this bottle. It was fine; nothing was really wrong with it. But it seemed more tired than the ‘04, lacked some of the minerality and acid that made the ‘04 sing.

Beguiling, beautiful nose of white fruit, spice, and a hint of honeyed development balanced by still-youthful reduction. Palate not quite as impressive as the nose, lacking the energy of the better bottles. Still, very good.

A celebration with friends (Home): Pale straw. Decanted a couple of hours in advance, initially quite rich and lacking in some definition, though clearly correct cf the poxed Clavoillon alongside, this sheds its puppy fat in the decanter and when served absolutely sings Puligny with it's white floraility and fruit. So precise and mineral, lithe, long and just so elegant. A rapier to the Bouchard Combettes's sabre. Grand Cru complexity without being encumbered with the extra weight. A really super bottle. *****

Definitely advanced, showing signs of premox. But still drinkable and enjoyable. Golden robe. Medium body. Round smooth profile.

Magnum. Good composed white fruit and floral notes, decently rich, not quite layered or electric. 93
