  On one side a light red that blends elegance with rustic notes, on the other a sea, no, an ocean of delicate tannins. The problem is, those two sides don't necessarily work together well. Either it is what it is, or it needs more years in the cellar.

  It took a good while to open, but then this was great. Intense complex nose of dried ripen cherries, delicate roses, balsamic notes, leather. At taste, very fine and still noticeable tannins, medium body, medium acidity. Complex, different layers of fruity notes (cherries, red fruits), together with leathery and more balsamic notes. Medium to long finish.

  Baudana Baudana Dinner with Giuseppe Vaira (Popina, 127 Columbia St, Brooklyn, NY): Stunning nose. Great perfume. Big and juicy, this definitely needs time, but there's a lush silkiness to this that makes it appealing to drink now. Still, it will benefit from another 10 years in the cellar. 94-96

  A much better showing than my last bottle, and better on the second day. Beautifully perfumed, with lovely fruit and spice notes that are just starting to add layers of leather, olive wood smoke, and mineral. Terrific.

  Very well made by Vajra from a plot acquired from Baudana. Lovely sweet fruit, well-structured with fine tannins. Lively in the mouth. Will improve with more age, but fun to drink now.
