  • The last bottle from my birth year case 1983. I am 40 now and this christmas seemed to me the perfect occasion to drink it with my parents, brother and the missesses. My dad pulled out this old wine ledger and found purchase information and old notes. fl. 25,50 (Gulden that is, the Dutch currency before the Euro). about 11 / 12 euros.

where my second last bottle (in '14) was still adorable this one was dead. The nose was quite promising (delicate, cedar, tea leaves) but the palate bleh... acidity gone, fruit bye bye, wet newspaper taste. Drank half a glass for the nostalgica, then tipped it into the sink and poured me a glass 15 Haut Batailley to accompany our venison loin.

after four decades there are no good wines anymore, only good bottles ;-)

  • Another great bottle! Even with the added age compared to the Beychevelle, this wine was tight and tannic to start off. After 30-40 minutes it became a true classic Margaux. Extremely red fruit driven. Elegant and soft. Great balance and a long finish. This bottle was in great shape and it showed.

  • Birthday dinner - with Shane, Michelle, AX (Shane’s new home): Deep garnet with fading browning edges. Aromas of purple flowers, blackberry, cloves, and coffee rub. Bright acids, and still quite a tannic bite, with medium ripe blackberry, dried flowers, cloves, nutmeg, and a slight mint coolness, as well as coffee grounds, and moss. A fairly good floral and spicy finish

  • This is one of the last bottles from a birth year case bought by my parents almost 30 years ago. Drank it with my parents and two long time friends (also from '83). Expected a far deceased wine but this thing was still alive! Fill was perfect, into neck and the colour was still medium dark and far from the brick state. Nose was old skool: cedar wood, berries and some tobacco. Fresh taste with nice level of acidity, some red fruit and very soft but present tannines. very subtle, elegant and completely uncomparable with now a days brdx. Had it with lam filet completed with fig jus.

Wonderfull experience and setting to drink this wine. Bam, 90 points!
