  • TWITS tasting at Mike's (Mike's place): Well, well, well. Tasted blind. Deep red turning just a touch to the rusts on the edge. Lovely deep dark red sweet fruit on the nose. Lots of age on this. Wonderfully delicate. Gorgeous fruit, some leather. Really love wine. Outstanding purity of fruit, wiht nice structure and perfect acid.

Mark guessed that both this and the other wine were barolos. As this was clearly (IMO Italian) and had some hints of nebbiolo to them, I immediately glommed onto this and guessed probably an 89 or 90 barolo. Wow how wrong we can be. In retrospect, looking at my notes, I'm not sure I would have gotten to brunello but definitely not sure why I went barolo. Will have to remember in the future that the only wines I've ever remarked to myself "what wonderful purity of fruit" are brunello's and rosso di Montalcino's. Anyway - educational if humbling.
