The wine is popped and aired for considerable 6 hours before it starts to show its strength. It pours a inky red with a brick orange tinge and thin dregs - evidencing a weak vintage in Bordeaux. Initially closed, the wine is quite green but still shows fruit, albeit weak, as it evolves in the glass and brings forward a concentrated bouquet of soy sauce, brett, leather, tobacco, blackberries and macerated cherries. On the palate, the wine is thin and the alcohol somewhat sharp and strident. Tannins are integrated but still present as the juice rolls off the tongue. First comes the black truffle, smoke, pepper, and soy, followed by the faintest dabble of cassis and kirsch. There is moderate acidity in the wine and the juice has a medium finish with a taste of Japanese grilled rice crackers. The wine is definitely on the downhill and not the most memorable but is still drinkable. I would say given the the vintage, Angelus has produced a decent effort. Nevertheless, it is definitely time to drink up.
