I picked this up on a lark, knowing that there was only a very slim chance it had survived respectably this long. Surprisingly, it wasn't spoiled - the cork was still in great shape and I didn't detect any VA. But it was way, way over the hill; in fact, I suspect it gave up the ghost a good ten years ago. Oxidized and brown all the way through, it hinted at an aged claret a bit, but otherwise had simply no body or complexity of any sort. Still, it was an interesting experience to open something this old (it's the first wine I've drank that's older than I am). No score, for obvious reasons.

7 Pinot Noirs Tasted (Walnut Creek, Ca.): Nose of smokey fruit, wood, and briar, old fruit, pleasant, rich but simple fruit, medium/big body, and medium finish, My #3 tied of 7.

With K at home at dinner (shrimp risotto). Very light ruby; orange at the edge. Fruity, cherry aroma. On the palate, very earthy, woody, but the fruit is sufficient to carry it. Good Pinot in a light-bodied format; earthy. 4-11-14-6: 85/100.
