  • Ex Chateau from magnum a little disappointing- thin chested. Very classic without creating much excitement.

  • Wine of the night for me. While the style is similar to 2016 and 2006, this one has aged quite a lot. Musty aroma evaporates leaving ink, plums, and spice.

This one was good because it apparently was kept in chateau till it was brought to Malaysia.

Good balance, very smooth. Fortunate to have had a lot tonight.

  • 2/2, vg cork, decanted 1/2 hr. Purchased November 2002, £18, STWC.
Deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Nose is still relatively youthful with plum and black cherry fruit, notes of tea, soil and a touch of exotic spice. Medium bodied, plum fruit, middleweight and supple on the mid-palate with black tea and exotic spice again, quite cool fruited though with a touch of gloss, vibrant acids, good length slightly grainy finish. This was very enjoyable though - I would say now fully mature but no need to hurry to drink well stored bottles.

  • Interesting! Very interesting in fact and I have no further comments.

  • This bottle was quite muted upon opening, very metallic, dry and astringent. After some 2h decant, it opened up and , particularly when accompanying food, became better, showing typical Troplong exotic sweetness and spice. Though, it never completely shook off the austerity it showed in the beginning. It remained OK to drink, but by no means the overwhelming wine some Troplong showed to be.

It certainly has some years left, maybe some time might help to resolve the tannins somewhat more (unlikely, but happened).
