Yesterday, I have given this wine 45 minutes in the fridge (outside the fridge it was 33° C) and I started to serve this wine at appr. 16° C. and I hoped for some remaining qualities. Impeccable however considering its age, very good in an absolute sense, a concentrated bouquet, still some fruit, fresh, also ripeness (of course); than a smooth, gently concentrated midtaste, meaty and also fresh with a lively citrus. In the long aftertaste bitters and tannins were completelely integrated with the smooth body; I haven't noticed negative aspects of 'age'; 93 points and 1 point for surviving so extremely well. Fifty years old and from a gentle, but modest vintage (although Pétrus in magnum, was also a thrill, a long time ago). The bottle came from the midieval cellar of my friend Henk Bijlsma in Utrecht.

Decanted for 10 mins. Light redish brown. Ripe red cherry nose. Very light raspberry, tiny bit of earthiness. Nice sharp taste. Mushroom, earth, cherry flavors. Little cranberry, red currant. hint of gaminess. Short finish. A bit light body past prime, but still nice. Little spicy. Glazed cherries flavor finish. Big fan of this traditional french taste.

Birth year wine. Bit past its prime, but still excellent. Green pepper, black pepper, black cherries, raspberries, barnyard. Still strangely alcoholic. Long tail. Not bad for a 40 year-old wine. One more bottle in the cellar, which should be drunk soon. Worth the $100 bucks I paid for it.
