A very modern wine. Delicious and round. Obviously very rich in terms of the fruit and overall ripeness. The wine was almost a touch too baked for me, but still extremely enjoyable.

Well, having now had several vintages of this wine ranging from six to 25 years old, I am firmly of the belief that this is a wine that should not really be touched until its 20th birthday. That's the earliest that you won't risk thinking that the wine isn't ready. Of course there's no harm to check in on them periodically but if you want to really see what the fuss is about, and you can find them, start with the 02 and work your way backwards. You'll be happy you did. Open the 2015 no less than ten years from now and you will have a treat on your hands.

Another Wine Slog Across France; 11/2/2019-11/13/2019 (Paris, Alsace, Burgundy, Encore Paris): Dark ruby. Whoa, candied black cherry leaps out of the glass when you open and pour this. Later, wintergreen and fennel announce that stems are in the house. Massively concentrated black and dark red fruit with natural sweetness but no overripeness, and a bit of a citric lift. Chocolaty richness. The fruit is so powerful that the mild stemminess does not intrude, but 2 hours of air certainly brings forth the formidable tannins and you begin to sense the underlying soil. No question that this had begun to involute and shut down by time we recorked the bottle. Heroic wine that may need 40 years to show its best despite its tantalizing appeal right out of the bottle.
Second day-That incredible plum and cherry liqueur scents still leads, and texture is gloriously glycerine, but earth and grainy tannins quickly take over and let you know that they will be in charge here for quite some time. I think that going forward, anyone choosing to open a bottle over the next however many years (?) runs the risk of running smack into an impenetrable wall of structure. I feel very lucky to catch a glimpse of it in its early glory.

Pure, polished, blockbuster. Stem aromatics that lean very floral and glossy.
